  • The disagreement between Nkrumah and J.B Danquah continued even after independence. J.B Danquah was arrested twice on grounds that he was behind the bomb attacks on the president, Nkrumah. On his second arrest, he died in prison at Nsawam in 1964. While in prison, J.B Danquah wrote several letters to Nkrumah for his release. In this video, I examine the last letter he wrote 12 days before his death

There was a big six... actually there are two sets.. the first political party which was set up by paa Grant was made up 6 which included the 5 who were with Nkrumah during the independence proclamation... the UGCC was formed with the aim of taking over the governing of the then gold Coast if and when the colonial British decided to leave.. they were diplomatic about it thus saying... gaining self rule in the shortest possible time. .. there were 6... so they infact harboured the idea of self rule... they invited Nkrumah to be a day to day administrative officer... Nkrumah then because he was well known as the face of the party... Nkrumah saw himself Equal to the ordinary man so was endearing to the masses ... there were some riots which led to arrests of Nkrumah and the 5 UGCC members minus paa Grant.. but they were furious and not happy with Nkrumah.. it later led to Nkrumah leaving to form CPP... the rest is history... critically looking at it the UGCC shot themselves in the foot by parting ways with Nkrumah... I think one of them were more likely to have been first president if Nkrumah was with them.. the UGCC were right in the thinking of the idea that the colonial British would hand over power to a political party.. which was exactly what happened... because Nkrumahs CPP was the party with most seats in 1956/57 power was handed over to them with Nkrumah being the leader... Now at the independence proclamation Nkrumah invited the 5 members of the UGCC to be on the podium with him.. at this point Nkrumah had the upper hand and the 5 under him. Nkrumah could have chosen to stand on the podium alone or choose different set of people but acknowledged where it all began... . so to end it there was a big six first at UGCC and secondly at independence proclamation..

I think the curse runs in their family. Look at the president's father Edward Akuffo Addo, then his uncle J.B Danquah who were part of the big six. Then now their pikin, Nana Addo and his cousin special advisor to the president, Ken Ofori Attah. And other family members holding positions in government. This thing he keeps saying about Nkrumah's name has done this... and independence that... and this... is an agenda to once again remove Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's name from our history because of his father and uncle, Edward Akuffo Addo and Dr. J.B Danquah respectively. Everything is about him and his family only.

Dr. J B Dankwah should've gone into exile after he was released. Communism has a ruthless and deadly side to it. Once Nkrumah adopted Communism, some of those who knew Communism very well ran away into exile. The whole of Ghana lived under fear and intimidation (even including some of Nkrumah's suppoters). You never knew who was reporting you to the authorities. As little school boys in Ghana, we were fearful as we saw our parents whisper about how wrong the economy and everything was going. There was no room for descent or complaints. Nkrumah had become a terrorist to his own people. It's amazing that monuments are later on being built to honor Nkrumah. Time heals a lot, including even fear and pains.

It's very sad n unfortunate when people who are not much informed of the history of our country to speak disrespectful against our former political heroes, especially the Danquah - Busia group. Every true n sincere historian will never look down on the monumental role the Danquah-Busia group. We shouldn't believe in lies, it was this group started the fight for our independence. Osagyefo joined this group by their own invitation or request. Why did Nkrumah leave the group? The narrative varies among different politicians and especially depending on which party or political tradition is in power. But what all should know is it wasn't Nkrumah who initiated idea of Independence for Gold Coast now Ghana. Let's put it on record, Nkrumah had a bigger vision than just independent Ghana. Those who are aware of Pan Africanism know what I'm talking about. He joined the struggle for the independence of the Gold Coast as a wise politician, to mobilise the whole continent of Africa to gain liberation from colonialism. So even after the independence of the Gold Coast, Nkrumah was much more concerned about becoming the first president of 'United States of Africa' an idea which wasn't bad, but it cost Ghana so much economically, and that contributed to the first military coup in Ghana. What I'm saying is we should respect all our past leaders, but not idolise any of them against others. Even J J Rawlings did a lot for Ghana. I Prefer J J to Nkrumah as far as the development of Ghana is concerned even though JJ is not an idol to me. All our leader did something for us but none of them was an angel, so we must respect them eguall, to protect the unity of our beloved country.

Secondly there was nothing like big six, it was a news article that was published by then colonial master after the riots in Accra and the title was "Arrest of big six members of UGCC"
Thirdly Ofori Attah wasn't part of the formation of UGCC, he was a victim of circumstances, when he run to alert JB Danquah(his cousin) that the police were in search of the UGCC leaders, by the time they tried to vacate the house, the police had already gotten hold of Ofori Attah and JB Danquah and that's how come he was also arrested.
Fourthly the UGCC was formed by Paa Grant who was one of the richest merchants in the British colony of the Gold Coast; he paid and registered UGCC, he invited JB Danquah to assist him in running the party but they weren't liked by Ghanaians so JB Danquah remembered he met a very bright Ghanaian student who knew how to pull crowd and that's when he told Paa Grant about Nkrumah. @okristo1345 because the UP deliberately introduced policies to destroy the CPP. The UP feared the CPP so much so that they even banned it from contesting in the 1969 election. These were people who preached democratic ideals

If he fasttracked the process, should he be a founder and the only one to be celebrated in Ghana.
