Crashed swan given a second chance in the wild!

- Sometimes, we end up rescuing an animal from a very similar situation just days later and this swan proved to be just that.
After rescuing a swan from a water treatment plant earlier in the year, we were recently called out to another lost visitor in a different part of the facility!
This rescue proved to be much more difficult and Simon and volunteer, Josh, had to use all their ingenuity to catch it. Luckily, after some rest and food it was looking much better and was finally able to go back to the wild!
PLEASE DONATE - Just £3 from every viewer can help us save many more animals! Online: bit.ly/wafdonate Text Donation: Text WILD3 to 70300 to give £3.00, (WILD5 to give £5.00 and WILD10 to give £10.00) UK residents only.

Definitely not a stupid swan, he just wanted to see Simon again and get pampered at your fine day spa!
If that is true Swans are just as clever as Ravens are. They should mark it so it can't abuse human hospitality.
See, the swans are learning. The word is out and now they conspire to get to spend some lazy days in your swan hotel.
Haha! We will have to start charging... :)
heheheh right!! 😂
Yeah, that was exactly what I thought too! Too relaxed on the table and that little tail shake he did when he was shown his lodgings for the next few days!
@@angelinasouren 🤣🤣🤣 he was like. " Job well done."
in your whole career i bet you’ve rescued my swan, clifton! but i live near wakefield so i highly doubt it but it could be possible! 🤗
Swans are beautiful
We agree!
They are. They are the national bird of Denmark.
He's very smart! He knows where the food is and warm place ;)
We will have to give him a bill for the stay!
Wildlife Aid Hopefully he doesn't come back to the same place again! Haha.
I love the swan carrier!
It makes our lives much easier!
It’s like a dog purse except it hisses and wants to beat you up
It’s always the swans giving Simon a hard time! Great job as always, WAF!
It seems to be! Foxes tend to be in the strangest places and swans seem to be the most difficult to catch!
Animals don't often openly show their gratitude, but I am sure they ARE grateful for everything you do. Thank you!
That swan is just trying to give you all a hard time at this point! Silly bird. 😂😂😂 Good job you guys once again.
We think he left something behind during his previous visit and wanted to come back to get it! Many thanks :)
Wildlife Aid haha! He probably was thinking "Oh I left something there, shoot. Oh well, I just have to go back and get it!" 😂
nah... that swan is simon's #1 fan!
I'm surprised Volvo dosen't sponsor you lol... Their cars are the one constant in all the videos since day one ^_^
We have had Volvo vehicles for many years now. Simon loves the space for kit in the back of them!
Alas, once our species will have conquered Earth, these Volvo surface crafts will be forbidden to use. We will however provide you with supersonic hovering antigrav crafts for faster response times.
BTW. Your effort in maintaining this planet's natural life is highly appreciated by the management of our invasion forces. You will be one of those humans who will not be evaporated. So, all the other of you humans, be quick to engage yourself in by giving a donation or becomming a volunteer, this way, your life may be spared. The day of invasion is soon. (Actually it was supposed to be today, but yesterday our science team have invented ethanol replicator and today all of our soldiers have terrible hangover.)
Wait, shado is supposed to repel the invaders!
That was under cmdr Straker's command. Since he left, we've successfully infiltrated it. **evil laugh**
That's not proper, it's Mwhahahaha! I know. When I saw Vincent Price do it in a film, I decided to become a mad scientist & rule the world. Sadly, you can't get evil henchmen to work for free, & all the other mad scientists have bought all the volcanic islands. Bummer. SO I just became a regular scientist.
I finally remembered the name of the film. Master of the World.
Those drone shots were phenomenal!
Thank you very much :)
Why are swans so silly and cute? Truly admire all the effort Simon and his team put into saving these amazing animals.
4:00 Look at him try to charm the vet staff there!
Definitely a charmer! ;)
What is that swans thing about sewage tanks 😂. All about the second change I suppose though . I love swans so much, I've been following a pair for 7 years and they are really good. they are so good with their babies. Wouldn't let anything harm them
I think he just really likes you guys!
Simon is the BEST His love and unsedrstanding has rescued many creatures KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Lol he's not a silly Swan he just wanted to see Simon and have some R and R away from the Misses 😅😂😂 great job as always guys
Safely returned to its rightful home. Well done!
Thank you :)
Poor thing was starstruck the first time. "OMG! That was THE Simon!!! I'll have to do that again!"
Wildlife Aid thanks for help the animals!
Thank you for your support!
What a treat! A video I haven't seen. Love seeing the swans. When I stationed in Germany so many swans on the Donau river in Neu Ulm.
Love this! Swans are so beautiful. Thanks for saving them
U guys are great help for animals thanks a lot
Love all that you guys do! I look forward to a new video everyday. Sending love and support from Arizona USA
Thanks very much. I hope you enjoyed this video! :)
I cannot begin to thank you enough for these videos, which so much improve the quality of my life here in the States.
Americans are scared to death of swans; I suppose they're thinking of Leda and the Swan. I fully enjoy your YT's.
Curious. He came back to the same place he was captured last time, but it wasn't a desirable place. Why would he choose the water treatment plant? Maybe he was chased off by bigger adult males at the first release location, or was seeking something he couldn't get there. (A mate or friend? A special visitor with choice food offerings? Familiarity?) The river gives him more areas to explore for one that suits him.
Love the use of drones.
Thanks very much :)
Ohh dear, looks like the swan thought it went a little too smooth last time and wanted to see if you guys could land that catch again. 😉 A bit more challenging this time around and it seemed to have learned that being lured with food would result in its capture. Good strategy with the rope. I hope they will put up a mesh of some sort over those pools to hopefully avoid more swans in the facility. Either way, well done! 💗
Such an ornery swan! Glad he was moved to a cleaner! and much more appropriate home! Hopefully he'll stay away from any cesspits in the future!
Well done, as always! The swan seems very relaxed being handled by you people, (even starting to groom itself!) I suppose this is a sign of nervousness or does the swan really not mind? Is this behavior to try to fool the potential danger or totally random because the fight or flight response is failing?
Strangely, swans seem to become rather docile as soon as they are caught. They will fight to avoid capture, but once restrained they usually act placidly.
Thanks for the support :)
I think that swan loves the lady vets ❤️❤️😂🤣😂
Swans are like people: they're territorial, surprisingly strong, prefer to mate for life (varying degrees of success/failure), and they like being pampered. They also like to get into things they know they shouldn't.
Goofy swan! Thanks Simon and team!
Thank you!
“Hit the road Jack, and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more!” 🎼
I knew there was a better choice of ending music...!
When I saw your thumbnail all I could hear was the theme from Dastardly and Muttley.
I give swan hotel five stars! :)
Great job guys!
Thank you!
Amazing as always ❤
Thank you very much :)
Swans look so docile, how is that possible ? =o
They are only docile once captured! They will put up a good fight to avoid being caught!
Haha, indeed. And then, when they're caught, swans are just like "Oh, well, you got me.". This is very funny. ^_^
Thank you so much! I’m sorry, I don’t know how to donate. I live in Indonesia.
Thank you for your support! If you want to donate, you can online here: bit.ly/wafdonate
We accept donations from all over the world :)
Wildlife Aid Yes, thank you.
Good job....
Really nice save lads, always impressed by you!
Good job
Thanks :)
Stroppy with Simon and co but remembered his manners when he was with the ladies and happy to be wrapped in a blanket lol
Well done guys! Silly Swan 🙄😂
Thank you! Swans always seems to find themselves in silly situations.
lol I always love how chill the swans are once captured - so many other critters are confused and stressed and not very happy... swans? couldn't be bothered haha
I'm curious, how you knew it was the same swan, did you mark it somehow? Anyway good on you for being such brilliant rescuers/carers. The world is much better place with you lot in it. ^^
That swan is the epitome of a Bird Brain!!!
Hope he doesn't consider the cesspit home!
Hopefully not!
Good job Simon.👍
Very nice footage! Well done rescuing that beautiful bird.
Thanks very much! :)
Was this the same swan or a different one? If this was a second swan its interesting that they are ending up in a treatment retaining pond and such nasty water - that would not be a birds first choice. It makes me wonder what is driving them away from wherever they were - have you though about checking out areas with swans around the plant (they don't usually go far). Are they coming from a pond that is over crowded and/or is losing its resources to feed the community and they are being driven out? Since they are reported to you as soon as they end up at the facility its seems they are getting skinny before they even get there and find no food there. Perhaps there is a pond that needs management - either some birds relocated or the pond rehab'ed - or both. I suspect this will keep happening and so it maybe worth a look. It actually might even be a sign of a greater problem in the areas - since swans would not, by first choice, go for such dirty water there is some reason they are. Is the swan population up in multiple ponds in the area and as a swan moves on or is driven out from a primary location they are then driven away when they fry a new location - until they have no choice by the treatment facility.
Using a drone too? It's nice to have those overhead shots.
Yes, our cameramen own a drone. We don't use it often but sometimes it's nice to see things from above :)
How do you know that this is the same swan? 🕊
We can't know for sure, but it's a strong guess based on body and head structure :)
Wildlife Aid That’s clever 👍
Lawrie to the rescue once again. "Lawrie RUN!"
How much do I have to donate to get my very own "swan tote bag"?
Haha! They are made to order and cost about £60 + VAT each, but they arrive without the swan! ;)
Wildlife Aid Well then, that's no good.
Wildlife Aid I really do want to donate but I live in the US, does the website do American currency?
@@johannaweichsel3602 You can buy a cheque in Pounds Sterling from your bank.
I love how you scold bad behaving animals and they listen :) the animal whisperer
The Swan be like: 'Getting myself in the same sticky situation twice is better than once'.
3:10 - Did the Swan literally say 'Help'? Well not quite, but it sounded like it.
I think he keeps going back just so he can get free food and a bed 😂
What a ridiculous, silly bird! I'm happy everything turned out well :) You should definitely get drone shots of releases when you can, seeing him drift off along the current was a beautiful way to finish the video.
The swan doesn't listen..
They never do!
Silly swan!
Mute swans are intelligent, wise and have a wonderful approach life. We could learn a lot from them.
One of the fascinations of observing Mute swans is deducing their motive(s). The motive in this case is a territory with plenty of water, ripe for adoption. Water is necessary for their survival (used for applying waterproofing oil gland fluid to their plumage). A territory for one male and one female ONLY (no more) is essential to their strongest instinct, which is successful breeding.
If (and it might well be a big ‘if’) this swan can use wings and feet to climb the open side, it can survive by feeding on the surrounding fields of grass seen in the video. They don't have much of a sense of smell and have constitutions capable of ingesting all sorts of things that would kill mere humans. A cesspool might be testing the limits, but seems to be working so far. Whether it would affect young cygnets is another matter and I have no idea.
One of the biggest problems faced by Mute swans in the UK is public ignorance and consequent violence against them. The common attitude is that swans are nasty and should be destroyed. Swans are bravely TERRITORIAL when breeding. They are NOT nasty. Like any wild creature, they don't go looking for trouble. They simply need to defend themselves and their territory against what pure instinct (and successful evolution) tells them is a threat. Understand that, act with respect for them and their territory and any swan will come to realise that and will leave you in peace.
BTW, bread has no nutritional value to swans, but they love it. If they fill up on it, they won't seek nutritious food and their health will suffer. Moldy bread can kill them, by causing lung disease (aspergillosis). Feed them fresh whole wheat grain or 'Floating Swan and Duck Food'. Big sacks of whole grain work out far cheaper than bread. They love unsweetened, unsalted, tinned sweetcorn, but it isn't a complete food for them. If you do feed them tinned sweetcorn, any added sugar is bad for any age and salt can be very bad for their young, so only use tins labelled 'sweetcorn in water'.
I think he keeps going back to the sewerage plant because he knows he'll three days in a warm box getting free food.
Great work as always guys, added your video to our playlist, thanks again.
Thanks very much )
it's crazy how strong a swan's neck is.
It’s basically planet earth comedy style
The drone shots are amazing.
I have the feeling this was his plan all along
Hopefully not!
Swans can be very nasty too, I remember Simon being wing whacked by one. And then they are so lovely to watch they are easily forgiven. Simon, I think you will just have to keep this one as a permanent resident, he seems determined to return. (grin)
A stinky swan back for a wash and rest, eh? Seems quite content to be inside! XD
I think hes hustling you guys for an easy meal LOL.
I wonder why it went back to the sewer waters.. very strange. But good rescue nether the less, I thought that man was going to go in for a moment, lol.
He will do it again to get a holiday and nice food at your holiday camp for swans.
👍👍👍 but the swan so lonely. Why don u bring the swan to the place who have more swans.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😄😃☺️
The swan just wants your attention, Simon. 😄
It's that one again...Lord A Mercy... :p
Not as stupid as you think Simon, He's come for his annual checkup.
Bad and naughty swans get put in the swan bag.
Are you serious ?? So very glad it was a happy ending.
the swan misses you very much!
Well, Simon, he just likes you so much, he wants another dance with Simon Cowell.
I would have to leave that swan to his own devices. No distress that I can see.
Pretty daft bird if you ask me - and it will most probably be back soon!
❤️❤️❤️
Did you say jiggery pokery Simon?? 😆
haha I would have laughed if Simon had told that they should save it again a few days later :D
I maybe think he would think a bit about making the swan into some kind of dinner, If that happent HAHA
If they covered the treatment ponds even with some tarps or something they wouldn't have wildlife having to be pulled out of it all the time. A building would be ideal.
What a silly goose. Oops, I mean swan lol.
He was just sad he didn't get to enjoy Simon's Swan Spa the first time so he went to the sludge pit again
are swans very heavy? they seem pretty light if they can be carried like a handbag haha
This one weighed just under 9kg (20lb) :)
I think birds tend to be lighter than they look if they can fly, with hollow bones and such.
Wonder if it didn’t come for your bread because it recognized you lol are they that smart?
It makes me wonder, have you had rescues that seem to need rescuing multiple times? XD
why cant it fly out?
I was wondering that myself.
a happy ending!
Silly Mrs Swan
Swans always find themselves in silly situations!
Yo creo que no es un cisne tonto. Lo que quería era descansar en un sitio al calor.
Anything wrong with wings of this swan? Why can't it fly??
goofy swan!!😝
Why can't it fly out of the sewage pond/tank/whatever?
That Swan is a ham. 🤣🤣🤣
Are you kidding me???? What on Earth is wrong with this swan!!!!!! Ssssssssstttttttuuuuuuuuuppppppppiiiiiiiiiiddddddddd!!!! Waterfowl!!!!!
