    Well done Tony, I've been looking at every tutorial on the Volca modular online, your patches are head and shoulders above the rest! I've bought your patch book and can't wait to try them all.
    One thing I've noticed with the Korg Volca modular is that it isn't easy to make it sound good. A lot of the other tutorials have patches that sound very similar to one another. I too have had some difficulty getting a sound out of it that did'nt sound like a Stylophone or Casio VL-1 (toy keyboard).
    While those are sounds I like, to get the value out of the unit I needed this patch book!

    Hi there! I have just got a Volca Modular & bought your E Book manual to accompany it, very very good stuff in there! But one thing I'm desperate to do is to connect it to my Teenage Engineering OPZ, but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I have a trs to split mono cable, connect to the cv/gate ports of my oplab inside OPZ. I have patch cables from the upper CV patch to the furthest left Function 1 patch & then a patch from the lower CV into the furthest left Source patch - what am I doing wrong? Have you used an OPZ before?
    As I'm a noob, would you mind just explaining exactly step by step how to connect an OPZ with an Oplab Module (which allows for CV & Gate) to a Korg Volca Modular.
    Much thanks (y)

    Hi Tony. Thanks for the videos. I’ve bought your book which is excellent! I was wondering if you might be able to help me? I was updating the modular’s firmware and the synth froze. There are a number of lights which come on and stay lot when powered up but nothing else happens, no sound, no playability. The power on/off button does not switch the unit off. I have tried the reset procedure to no avail. As you are so clued up about the synth and I’ve not found a solution elsewhere I thought you may be able to help. Thanks.

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Alistair, I think you should call your nearest Korg office and tell them. If you don't have any success with that, let me know and I will see what I can do. It sounds like the system update was only partially installed before the unit stopped or powered down for some reason. My guess is that this has corrupted the firmware.

    Hello Tony - Recently picked up the book and started with "Brain" when my VolcaMod showed up. When I first started up the Volca (brand new), I believe it was able to hold that sweet, low tone at the beginning of the Brain patch (at about 19:16). Once I had worked with it a bit, turned it on and off and so forth, it began behaving as it does in your video. That is, it does the sweet, low tone for a second or two then moves to a higher frequency. Is there a way to sustain the low initial tone? Thank you--Cool book!

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 2 lety

      Hi George, I’m not exactly sure of the sound you want, but try just connecting that yellow cable from a+bxc to LPG1 Level Input, then turn it on (no other connections). Maybe set the knobs as they are in the diagram. You should hear the low oscillator. You could build up the patch from there.

      @@TonyHorgan Hey Tony - Thank you for getting back. With your ideas in combination with a couple others that I cooked up, I've started getting some pretty wild sounds. I'm sampling the Korg into an Octatrack, so by now the whole pie is pretty mangled. Very cool indeed. Very industrial. Thanks!

    Is there any way to purchase your ebooks DRM-free? I am really interested, but it seems like there is only DRMed versions from Apple/Google or the print from Lulu. I'd really love to buy this and some other books DRM-free. Good work!

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 2 lety

      No, I can’t make them DRM-free, because then they would be copied around the internet and I wouldn’t earn anything from them. If I didn’t earn anything from making books I’d do another job. Is there any reason you don’t want the Apple and Google editions?

  • @montxsuz
    @montxsuz Před 2 lety

    Bit confused about the book formats? Does it only come in hardcopy (tto expensive for me) plus Android and iStuff? Or would I be able to read the eBook on my Windows PC? Adobe/Kindle compatible? I do prefer PDF, but will not read books on a phone.

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 2 lety

      The ebook formats are Google Play Books and Apple Books. The Google edition can be read on a Windows PC or any other computer via a web browser, and also on Android devices, iPhone and iPad. The Apple Books edition can be read on a Mac, iPhone and iPad. There is no PDF version at the moment. PDF is not a secure distribution format, so that doesn’t work for me.

    How can i test if parts of my volca are broke?
    I cant hear anything from function 2 at all when testing low frequency sweep

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 4 lety +1

      scottrowan200 You can test the output of most modules by connecting them to the Source Pitch input and playing a long note. The connected module should control the pitch of the note, but not all outputs will transmit a sustained signal - some will only send a brief Trigger signal. For example, connect the Function 2 Positive Output to the Source Pitch input and hold a note on the keyboard. This will only have an effect when Function 2 is triggered or looped, with a connection to the Function 2 Trigger Input.

    Hi Tony. Is there a way to buy your book as a normal, non-proprietary format pdf? As a screenreader user, I need a normal pdf I can then convert to plain text (in, say, Adobe Acrobat). • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 4 lety

      Dino Goldie Hi, I cant release it as a PDF because then it would just be copied and reposted online and there would be no sales revenue. What is it that the ebook editions don’t do that you need?

    • @dinogoldie9716
      @dinogoldie9716 Před 4 lety

      @@TonyHorgan Fair enough. tbh, I was mostly just seeking clarity re the identity of the input/output patchpoints on the two functions, the two LPGs and the Space delay (from left to right). I've mastered your "correct answer" LFO patch and Korg's "Slap bass" patch so I'm doing alright a week in. However, it's routing the modulator oscillator so that it sounds via the second lpg that's currently got me stumped.

    • @TonyHorgan
      @TonyHorgan  Před 4 lety

      Dino Goldie Connect the Source Modulator Output to the LPG 2 Signal Input. Then you need to give LPG 2 a volume level by connecting something to the LPG 2 Level Input. This could be the Function 1 Positive Output (to hear the Modulator wave when you play a note) or something that supplies a constant level, such as LPG 2 Inverted Output (when LPG 2 is not connected in other ways) or the a+bxc output when nothing is connected there, with the C knob turned up. Then it will be audible without playing any notes.
