    The magic that Bing and Satch had stemmed from a close, longtime friendship they had. In fact, Bing served as a pallbearer at Satchmo's funeral.

      He was? Huh. Never knew about that. If so, that'd probably be the first time he'd been a pallbearer to his friend since Russ Columbo's funeral almost 40 years before that

    I'm glad Bing recognized Armstrong's talent and did judge him because of his skin color. It's wonderful what can happen when you ignore race.

      Armstrong was one of those guys that everyone just had to love. Bing definitely liked Armstrong especially. They did a lot of stuff together.

      Actually Louie was one of Bings idols along with Jolson. Bing never forgot Louis, would put him into one of his pictures when ever he could.

    Their voices compliment each other so beautifully. Love them both. Bing stiff dancing is so awkward and funny for such a cool dude and satchmo is the king of jazzzzzzzz.

    Flawless musically tho you'd never know it from their ease. Brilliant chart by Billy May. Writer(s) of 60s-hip alternate lyric should be ID'd. Probably that married couple who did everything back in the day, can't remember their names. They toss this stuff off as if it were easy but believe me, it would be really a hard piece to perform.

    Hi, Kevin, just seen this for the first time. I think it's a handkerchief. Bing checks his right sleeve at the end, but nothing's there.

    Does Bing's shoe fly off at his foot at one point?

    • @chorchteacher1079
      @chorchteacher1079 Před 5 lety +3

      Looking carefully it seems he lost the sleeve band he was wearing on his left arm. These were worn to shorten the length of the sleeve to adjust it to the one of the jacket. You can see that at the end of the song he fumbles a sec with the left sleeve. A sharp dresser always!

    • @oldtoby9377
      @oldtoby9377 Před 2 lety

      @@chorchteacher1079 Funny thing is, Bing was known for anything BUT a sharp dresser. He had his own style, that's for sure. But when you compare him to the likes of Frank or Dino? Oh Lordy... he was bad. Take a look at some of the pictures taken during his radio sessions and tell me if his clothes oozes any form of dapperness.

    Its really interesting reading backgrounds on the Golden age stars.
    One is.. In all the years they knew each other, Old Satchmo said that Bing Crosby (who was to all intents, not a very nice person at all in real life. And thats understating it. Do some Googling on him.)
    Anyway.. he never once invited good ole Satchmo to his house.

      I think it was said that particular quote was not critical of Bing but was taken out of context. I have read lots of things about Bing and of how kind and generous he was to numerous other people both in show business circles and in every day life. He was very supportive to other performers down on their luck, financially supported many friends, relatives and acquaintances and went into bat for a lot of friends (often through third parties so as not to be thanked). He played an enormous amount of charitable events, donated large sums of money to various causes and donated of his time and talent without charge. Most of his co-stars and work colleagues enjoyed working with him and even though some found him to be a bit private and remote they basically said he was always polite and friendly. His two wives both adored him and out of all his kids only his eldest one was really critical (and even his version has been questioned over the years). His other kids had really nice quotes about him.

      Don't believe everything you read on the computer. Two comments above tell a different story. How many times have you invited friends to your house for dinner. Bing always said that Louis was his idol. They have tried to ruin Bing's reputation as they have done with many others.

      Bing liked to keep his gome life away from all the hustle and bustle..So he wasn't often entertaining at home..He loved Louis and so many other friends and show biz friends. .
