  • Welcome to the 2nd part of a 3 part series exploring some UK disused railways and old train lines. The old railway stations in this episode are along the disused Forge Valley Line that used to run between Scarborough and Pickering, in North Yorkshire.
During this episode I visit 2 lost Railway stations - Wykeham and Sawdon, which serviced the village of Brompton by Sawdon. There's also some old railway infrastructure that has survived all the years since the lines closure in 1950 including some railway bridges.
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    0:37 West Balk Bridge
    1:18 Wykeham Station
    2:04 Ice House
    3:13 Wykeham Bridge and Cutting
    4:40 Ruston Bridges
    5:13 Brompton (Sawdon Station)
    7:14 Mini Church!
During Part 1 I began my journey along the disused railway stations of The Forge Valley line at Seamer station (still an active station) where the Forge Valley Railway branched off and headed towards Seamer.

You're correct about why the names are different to the closest village names. The NER did this in many places to stop passengers being directed to the wrong train.

Stumbled upon your video when looking for info on the Scarborough to Pickering old railway which I didn't really know existed. We live in East Ayton and I knew there was a station in West Ayton but just hadn't really thought too much about the line it served.
Definitely found this very interesting and we're going to do the walk from Wykeham to Brompton and see the little church!
Looking forward to part 3 now! Thank you

Hi thanks very much for the kind comment. Yeah it's an interesting line. I haven't filmed part 3 yet, but will be going out soon to do it, so hopefully won't be too long before its up.

This is awesome to see as it's where some of my ancestors lived.

Hi Ian. Great vlog have seen a few of yours. Just an idea. Old stations that are now b&b, it may be worth contacting the owners and ask if they could alow you to vlog on the old platform, it's business for them as well,

It was never a church as such - it was effectively a mortuary to place the deceased before burial, and could hold a small committal service if necessary. Access can be arranged through the local C of E parish churches.
