Not to be argumentative, but the dude takes a suspicious job from a stranger in the middle of nowhere with no information or verification, and then agrees to whatever this guy (made entirely of red flags) says for hours on end, following him to isolated unmarked places in the woods, and even agrees to reenter the guy's house, at night, for a drink after feeling threatened. Then separates himself from his keys so they can be taken, and doesn't even keep an eye on the guy. When he has him incapacitated, he goes to another room to make a call instead of leaving. When he gets home, he ignores the growing threat of violence, doesn't bring his evidence to the cops, doesn't stay with a friend, leaves his back to a glass door, and even leaves his apartment (with the door wide open) to investigate noises. THEN there's the ending.
One question. Does the killer tell Rex that he killed her? I don’t remember him saying he killed her, but he did say he could find out what happened to her. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie.
Yeah I gotta go with this guy. I mean some of these you can argue grief was a thing that affected judgment or supernatural shenanigans or the Warlock's pure ego could be at fault for why they do what they do...but this guy. No bro, just no. You've got no idea what he put in there. You could be drugged or you could be flat out poisoned, either way you're going to be at this guy's mercy. No one is there to help you. And while you may be holding out hope your girlfriend is alive, enough time has passed that it's probably unlikely and you'd be past the grieving process at least enough that you'd be able to look at this from a more logical standpoint.
One thing you have remember about Louis in Pet Sematery is that he’s not in his right mind. One of the themes of the movie/book is grief and how we cope with it. Louis isn’t coping at all! That’s why he digs his son up and buries him the Indian burial ground. Then he’s forced to kill Gage after he kills his mother and the old man. Louis justifies burying his wife up there on the basis that she hasn’t been dead that long. The point is it’s clear Louis isn’t thinking rationally.
Special mention to Jud as well. Jud may be even more egregious. He knows what the cemetery does. It did it to his dog. He knows what it did to Timmy. Why on God's green Earth is he telling ANYONE to ever bury anything up there again? Jud could have averted this whole movie by just getting the Creeds a shelter cat and some pamphlets on the benefits of indoor cats.

With pet semetary, you can argue the Wendigo is influencing everyone so they are compelled to bury things in the area being the pet semetary. Though that version does ignore the Wendigo but it doesn’t mean it isn’t there
I have a theory. White people are more susceptible to evil/cursed artifacts. (Skeleton Key) He was compelled by the Book to open it and was unable to stop himself even though he wanted to.
I'd argue that the book already gains some kind of influence over whoever finds it, making them do stupid things like ignoring all of the warnings and reading the text out loud.
For me it's between this and the guy from Creep. It's funny because I like both movies but, both of the characters make so many bad choices. I have to vote for this one because, while meeting with the psycho without protection and backup is an awful idea, it's something that I can buy someone really doing. Finding the incredibly creepy book, opening it, and reading out loud? MAYBE if he was a 1930s archeologist or something, but anyone modern should just be "Nope, fuck it I"m outta here" at just finding the creepy book.
I don't think Rex was dumb. From what I remember he seemed depressed and overcome with guilt. He just wanted closure and didn't care if he died in the process.

It always seemed to me that Eric, from the Evil Dead remake, was somehow compelled to act that way. Like there was some sort of unseen force driving him to actually open and use the book. Or it's just bad screenwriting. Maybe a bit of both.
Love this movie. An absolutely A++ movie for the first 90%, unfortunately the last 10% is really disappointing, but luckily not enough to completely ruin all of the high points.

A character that I find stupid for exactly one reason - (SPOILERS for a 12 year old movie). In You're Next, after being involved in an intricate plan to murder most of his family as well as a couple of neighbors, he runs off to hide, and THEN (here's the stupid part) calls up and confesses to his part in the scheme while having no idea to whom he's talking.
I nominated Deputy Winston from Cabin Fever first time around, and I have to renominate him for the next Dumbest Dumbies list. He was infuriatingly stupid.
Also, Randy and Stu were friends, you’d think that maybe Randy’s sister, Mindy’s mother, would know that Mindy was going to that house. Of course, it’s also been insinuated that Stu’s name is not actually mentioned in the “Stab” movie and that’s why Tara doesn’t know his name in the opening; and why they don’t know him when Amber brings up that Vince was his nephew. Maybe the house isn’t mentioned. This is a stretch, though.
I said it on the last video but Douglas from Satan’s Little Helper. He helps out the killer and thinks it’s just all some sort of joke, he even let’s him in his house where he kills his family from what I remember.

Louis did not die at the end of the 1989 version of Pet Sematary. The sequel states that he was charged with the murders and found insane and is currently in an asylum. Louis "rekilled" his wife like he did with Cage.

Lynda from RZ's Halloween. Unlike the old movie where Michael and Lynda's boyfriend were around the same size and height, Tyler Mane's Michael is nearly SEVEN FREAKING FEET TALL, while Bob is maybe six foot. How the hell do you mix them up!? Seriously, HOW!?!!!!
Actually, Bob in the remake was about 6’6”, while Tyler Mane is about 6’10”. There is a height difference, but Rob Zombie at least had the sense to cast someone tall to play Bob so that the difference is not as noticeable.
Mindy’s dumbest action has to be telling people she thinks they are serial killers. Number 1 rule of thinking someone is a murderer, don’t tell them. Not a good idea. And if you have friends, don’t tell them to their faces that you think they are killers. Also, just as a character, she is horrible. With Randy & Kirby, being horror fans were PART of their personalities. For Mindy, being a horror fan IS her personality, and that sucks.
Let’s look at this logically. The supernatural does not exist out with the realms of horror films. So, it’s only dumb to believe supernatural warnings in a book if you know you’re in a horror film. So Eric is not dumb. He’s normal. If I found a weird book I’d absolutely be interested and not scared at all to read from it because… you know, ghosts ain’t real and the undead don’t walk the earth. However, real life psychos do exist so characters being blasé in non supernatural horror are indeed idiots.

I know people don't like the movie however the lead character from 2011s The Thing is hands down the smartest character in moviedom. The entire plot of Pet Semetary could have been solved if Lewis just built a FENCE around his property and locked the GATE! Sure it wouldn't have kept the cat from getting killed, but it would have stopped the child from getting loose.
A lot may disagree but Louis from Pet Cemetary is misunderstood. Yes, the movie makes him look stupid but it's VERY difficult to get across the point that the burial ground's power , once it gets its hooks in you, makes the dumbest things seem perfectly natural. I believe it was wrong not to find some way to make that point BUT after seeing the remake all the original movie's mistakes are much easier to forgive. His character might be an a-hole, but he had no reason to believe that anything in the book was actually harmful. Not to mention, of all the people on this list, none of them suffered and was torutured as badly as Eric. His sins were definitely atoned for.
Ok, I wouldn't immediately think the Necronomicon as presented in the ED remake is possessed or evil, but I certainly would consider it a tetanus or black mold hazard. On top of that, if it was obviously made of human skin, it would be evidence of a crime that I certainly wouldn't want to be roped into. I would leave the damn thing where it was, leave and call the cops. Let them deal with it. Just like finding a thumb drive on the side of the road.
Anyone in a horror movie that hears a strange noise at night and goes to investigate, even saying "Hello? Who's there?" I know for myself, if I hear a noise at night in my house and I know I'm the only one home, I'm immediately calling the police and getting my gun. Period.

Eric is influenced by the evil already present there though. It's not that he's an idiot. Plus, he redeems himself by taking tons of damage trying to make up for what he knows he did. Judd and Lewis as well are being influenced by the power of a Wendigo in that film, so not in full control of themselves. Especially Lewis, because the grief makes his mind even weaker, thus more susceptible to it's influence. The others......yeah, pretty stupid.
I’m sorry, but I actually like the first two “Jeepers Creepers” movies. I think at first I had no clue who had written and directed them. I only recognized Francis Ford Coppola’s name. However, looking back, it’s weird that he seems to have a lot of the same actors appearing in his movies. Like, why would they work with him knowing that. Ray Wise was in “JC2” and he was also in “Powder” earlier. Also, it’s very strange that people waited until the third one to decide to boycott. I think that was stage because it was terrible, though. He wasn’t even attached to the fourth one, and they made it seem like they did the same thing and for the very same reason. It was worse. Again, I apologize for liking these movies. I really wish someone else had come up with them.

It's funny because I like both movies but, both of the characters make so many bad choices.

In You're Next, after being involved in an intricate plan to murder most of his family as well as a couple of neighbors, he runs off to hide, and THEN (here's the stupid part) calls up and confesses to his part in the scheme while having no idea to whom he's talking.
I nominated Deputy Winston from Cabin Fever first time around, and I have to renominate him for the next Dumbest Dumbies list. He was infuriatingly stupid.

Actually, Bob in the remake was about 6’6”, while Tyler Mane is about 6’10”. There is a height difference, but Rob Zombie at least had the sense to cast someone tall to play Bob so that the difference is not as noticeable.
Mindy’s dumbest action has to be telling people she thinks they are serial killers. Number 1 rule of thinking someone is a murderer, don’t tell them. Not a good idea. And if you have friends, don’t tell them to their faces that you think they are killers. Also, just as a character, she is horrible. With Randy & Kirby, being horror fans were PART of their personalities. For Mindy, being a horror fan IS her personality, and that sucks.
Let’s look at this logically. The supernatural does not exist out with the realms of horror films. So, it’s only dumb to believe supernatural warnings in a book if you know you’re in a horror film. So Eric is not dumb. He’s normal. If I found a weird book I’d absolutely be interested and not scared at all to read from it because… you know, ghosts ain’t real and the undead don’t walk the earth. However, real life psychos do exist so characters being blasé in non supernatural horror are indeed idiots.

The entire plot of Pet Semetary could have been solved if Lewis just built a FENCE around his property and locked the GATE! Sure it wouldn't have kept the cat from getting killed, but it would have stopped the child from getting loose.
A lot may disagree but Louis from Pet Cemetary is misunderstood. Yes, the movie makes him look stupid but it's VERY difficult to get across the point that the burial ground's power , once it gets its hooks in you, makes the dumbest things seem perfectly natural. I believe it was wrong not to find some way to make that point BUT after seeing the remake all the original movie's mistakes are much easier to forgive. The remake is the BIGGEST waste of film (or whatever) that I have ever seen. 🤢

I’m sorry, but I actually like the first two “Jeepers Creepers” movies. I think at first I had no clue who had written and directed them. I only recognized Francis Ford Coppola’s name.
However, looking back, it’s weird that he seems to have a lot of the same actors appearing in his movies. Like, why would they work with him knowing that. Ray Wise was in “JC2” and he was also in “Powder” earlier.
Also, it’s very strange that people waited until the third one to decide to boycott. I think that was stage because it was terrible, though.
He wasn’t even attached to the fourth one, and they made it seem like they did the same thing and for the very same reason. It was worse.
