  • The cylinder head is taken from the specialist where it has been repaired. Because of one valve seat that broke all the head was examined for damage. Hot plugs closely inspected for possible cracks. All valves, their guides and oil seals were renewed.
    The turbo diesel engine powered truck (with 170 000 miles covered) was driven on a fairly long hilltop during extreme summer heat.
    Due to blocked thermostat for cooling, a rupture of rubber tubing and coolant leakage occurred.
    The engine has overheated. By a slight increase in the engine noise the damage was to be expected.
    The truck arrived home 200 kilometers away with frequent water refilling into the cooling system.
    The first valve seat broke so the pieces of exceptionally hard material from which it is made,
    hit the soft top surface of the piston and damaged it even on two adjacent pistons in the engine.They have been carefully extracted. The pistons are not drilled through.The cylinders had no signs of significant damage. Similar signs on the head couldn't be removed completely even by alignment using special machine.
    Here it is how we refitted the repaired cylinder head back and assembled all the rest needed.
    Finaly, the oil feed pipe, for the lubrication of the rocker shaft assembly, to the cylinder head is conected as well as the heater plugs and all leads, washers and nuts fitted back ensuring that each cable eyelet is fitted vertically downwards to prevent heat from the cylinder head damaging the cable insulation. Fuel injectors fitted with new steel sealing washers bellow the nozzles that prevent overheating. Using new gaskets the air intake and exhaust manifold are tightened into place. Breather hose conected to the oil filler cap as well. Air intake and coolant hoses refitted, coolant refilled, battery reconected.The engine started successfully even without venting of the fuel supply system.

      To visit those remote wild areas wouldn't be as easy without that old truck. We repaired what was possible and prolong its life a bit. It will serve well again further on, I hope.
      Have a nice weekend, Helmut and thanks for stopping by.

      To reach those remote wild areas I needed to use four wheel drive vehicle. I could not afford new su second hand was the only solution for me. Continuous care is what made such truck going. After more than 25 years it still serves us well.
      Hope after repair like this it will be good and reliable even more. And the yellow creature you mentioned is not a dog but our assistant.

    Well Pavle, that was quite a job and imagine with the help of Tin who, incidentally, never wanted you to sell the Land Rover, I think that old buddy is ready to go. With Bully contentedly chewing on a bone and the pigeon in the tree and your other bird sitting on his perch I am sure they are all wishing you good luck too ha ha. Some time in the future that old Land Rover will take you to Velebit mountain where your heart feels at home.

      Oh yes, my dear Joan, I hope it will not be long for me to come back on long walks through those beautiful mountains and spacious forests. The wind and the odor of aromatic grass and vegetation ... when after a few days and nights under the stars I get used to them, I know I'm there. And then I'll find my acquaintances again and hopefully, happy. The signs of their presence to be found would be enough for me. Thank you. (ywm)

      Puno pozdrava.,

      ... u stvari malo je nepravde u mojoj odluci da ovakav video postavim na kanal jer nije za sve ... no vjerujem i znam da će nekima pomoći ili bar pojednostaviti probleme ... naročito onima sličnih nazora prema prirodi i afiniteta.. Naime bez ovakvog vozila teško da bi se ikakve priče i da tako nazovem, avanture opisane u mojim snimkama mogle uopće dogoditi. Iako sam taj stari škripavi auto ostavljao na mjestima dokle me je uopće mogao dovesti pa od njega uglavnom kretao sa ruksakom i vrećom za spavanje u planinu, njegova je zasluga ogromna. Iskreno, nisam čak ni približno dovoljno brinuo o njemu a ipak me baš ovaj bijeli služio već 21 godinu i to po onim prilično zahtjevnim terenima i u naročito teškim vremenskim uvjetima, olujama i snijegu. Znao sam se iznemogao dovući do njega, sretan što sam ga se uopće dočepao nakon što bi se iz nekih prenapornih i rizičnih situacija jedva izvukao. Spasio me kad nisam ni vjerovao da se možemo izvući. Govorim o njemu kao o živom biću. Bar je ovakav trud da ne propadne zaslužio. Zato sam baš i tom metalnom stvoru dodijelio skromno mjesto među svim ovim snimkama divljih životinja jer je upravo on dio i svjedok mnogih mojih iskustava. Hvala na komentaru. Lijep pozdrav.

      (ne ovog koje se za novija vozila danas nudi).

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 3 lety

      If I understood well, you need the engine block for 2.5TD Turbo. I still own an 19j complete with the head that needs to be repaired or even changed. In fact the valve seat broke and made some damage to the top of pistons which are still working as well as crankshaft and all the rest. Injection pump had some minor leaking under the throttle spindle. I plan to repair it as soon as I finish installing the 300 TDi into the vehicle.

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 3 lety

      @@ivanbezdomny7646 Honestly, I haven't decided yet because, as I said my plan was to repair it. The reason for taking it out of the engine was that faulty head. As I am working on that newer 300TDi
      I am occupied with adjusting it for different engine mounts end older gearbox (LT77). in fact that 19J seemed much more silent and kind of softer engine than any newer. Although it is from 1989.It served me well through 24 years now, Cylinders were repaired some 4 years ago, new pistons constructed in Mahle (Munich) repaired with special bores. At the moment I am not sure nor I didn't tested the connection rods as it is still in one piece...I didn't started disassembling it ... only head is removed for the damage to be checked. In the same time many things were renewed ... , timing belt, outer belts, water pump, all filters needed etc.
      Besides, I really do not know what money the engine would cost ... complete with as it is pulled out. With good head replaced it can surely be easily started on the stand connecting radiator hoses, cooler pipes, starter wires, solenoid and glow plugs wires to the battery. As I mentioned conn. rods would be good to be tested in this state when the motor is out.
      It isn't easy to find this type of motor ... but the spare parts used to be far cheaper then any other types of engine for Land Rover.
