Umm, just a question, do influencers now expect that everyone owns basic colours from way back? And now brands should do "something different" and new everytime. I mean, as someone starting out, I want a palette with nude tones, a full nude palette or a daily look palette with new formula and packaging. I don't necessarily want different tones and hues that are different right now. I might when I grow my collection. So, for someone like me, or general lower middle class people who want to keep makeup basic and neutral/ only useful, such neutral palettes are great. Like the remi Ashton one, I think I'd like that. I think it's a smart move for someone to make something that would appeal to a wider group, more people are likely to support a basic palette by their fav youtuber than a wonder/ few unique colour sorta thing from anyone.
I’m fairly certain Desi did something similar with Benefit.

@@amolpreetkaur3443 I’m not an influencer at all, so I’m hoping I can still be helpful given that fact. From my perspective, there isn’t a problem with brands doing cult classics and releasing their version of nude or everyday makeup palettes or products. I think the problem consumers, including influencers, have with brands is related to the way a product is advertised, the cost, the quality, and the inclusivity of the product. I’m not sure about your skin tone or skin needs, but below I’ve listed some well-received palettes that are neutral shade heavy along with why I mentioned them. Take a look and see if there are any you’re interested in.
- NARS Voyageur eyeshadow palette (well-received and compact)
- Natasha Denona Bronze eyeshadow palette (well-received and LESS expensive way to try the brand)
- NYX Professional Ultimate Utopia palette (well-received, large palette, cool tones, warm tones, drugstore brand, cruelty-free)
- Uoma Beauty might be a good brand to try. I’ve seen a more neutral palette and I’ve seen palettes with neutrals and pops of color.
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance, Soft Glam, or Jackie Aina palettes. They have neutrals but also inspire me, which is fun.
- Pat McGrath Labs Celestial Divinity palette is pretty cool. Large palette, includes neutral and fun shades, and is a less expensive way to try the brand.

The Mac X Sims collab was probably the worst collab ever in my opinion. Like Mac didn’t even try, just re-released an older palette 🤦🏽♀️
In retrospect, I think it really fits! Reselling old products in a shiny new package and pricing it higher because of that is totally up EA’s street

Imo any collab with a deceased person shouldn’t be done ... the Frida Kahlo collection from Ulta, the Jean-Michel Baquiat x Urban Decay and the Selena collection from MAC are ones that come to my mind instantly....
They are done in collaboration with their estates and foundations or charity. Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvador Dali, etc all have foundations dedicated to preserving and promoting their works and authenticating art sales so people are not scammed and those services don't pay for themselves, which is why they do collabs like this or release clothes with their art on it. So the ones based on artists don't bother me because there is a purpose for them other than "their family wants to make money off their image"

AGREED. Like it it was directly a family member coming forth, I could be okay with it, but as the other person said with the "estate"/etc, no. Estates and foundations are basically their own non profits that still *need to make money* 🙄🙄
There are plenty of other living artists who would love the opportunity for a collab-give them a shot.
I actually liked the Basquiat and Selena collections tho! The latter was done with the guidance of her family and actual makeup bag that had been preserved. I still have my lipstick from that collection bc it’s still good nearly 5 years later.

David said he didn’t believe those claims because that was his life long friend. That’s what gets me about colourpop - they care more about quantity and not quality. They just reuse the same colors over and over, put zero effort in the designs or color stories.
The two main chicks that worked there had quit a while back. They were also the ones doing the Kathleen Lights collabs.
Colourpop is like the fast fashion of makeup.

@@mbbm1999 to be fair, i think it’s because colourpop is bad at taking accurate product pictures. Because I’ve seen multiple swatch videos (and have the sailor moon palette) and it seems way more different than just from the pictures. Also ive noticed colourpop has a standard way for placing their shadows which, while i find the most appealing, kinda makes all their palettes mesh together because of that

I'm really glad you talked about how colourpop colour choices seem so pale in terms of variety! It also frustrates me when they do collabs (esp. with established brands/entertainment) where there was so much potential for rich colour with items, like animal crossing having an apple red blush, but gave us the bog-standard neutral pink blush with beige/peach variant. What is the point of excluding colour possibilities that can cater to much deeper complexions, when you make colour options that basically any person with a paler complexion already has in their existing collections?

I wanted the candy land pallet to be vibrant as well. I was so disappointed, especially since colourpop usually does such a great job. I vote for colourpop to do a do over! It would be a first for a brand to acknowledge that this didn't quite meet their customers expectations AND say that because of this, they are going to come out and do it BETTER!
I think it would be a good move for the company. I'd love to see it in their square 12 pan pallets with vibrant primary colors reflecting the game pieces on the cover. Inside, I'd love to see a primary blue and maybe a rose red with a vibrant yellow shift to represent the other game pieces. I'd love to see a few duochrome colors to really make the pallet feel as magical as the game board.
They could have put out some beautiful gum drop themed blushes on their creme or stick formula. It would be great to see some fun lip colors to reflect some candy flavors. They could have hit it out of the park by making rollerblading lip glasses that actually had a tint. Something reminiscent of the old Maybelline Kissimg Potions (created before many of you were even born).

Edit: I don’t pay much attention to collabs but the only one I can think about is the sims x Mac collab cause I literally love playing the sims and love makeup. The audacity of Mac to repurpose an old palette that literally had nothing to do with the game is just .. wow.
The Mac makeup in the sims game itself is just borderline unusable. This is why people use CC, because the makeup in game is *bad*.

I work for Sephora, and if it makes you feel better, we never sold a single Lele Pons palette. Not one. We still have them, no one is into it, even when they went on sale, I don’t remember anyone being interested.
With the Pretty Basic pallet, the colors were chosen two years ago, and release was delayed because of covid (which I'm guessing is why they each chose only one dog to name a shade after). Also, I think it's supposed to fit the name. It's for their podcast, Pretty Basic, so I think that's why the packaging is very minimalistic, and just the name and the shades are all neutral because it's Pretty Basic.

Game of Thrones and UD was a total disaster, it sucked so bad and wasn't thought-out plus the quality was trash. Another one is Ciate x Jessica Rabbit collab, the packaging looked cute and the colors were thought-out pretty well however the quality was a dumpster fire. Ever since that I refuse to even look out Ciate anymore, they clearly just cared to make a cash grab off nostalgia with zero f's to give about how it all actually performed. Lastly, every Pur eyeshadow palette created with Boxycharm or sent in Boxycharm are awful. I have kept them only to show people what a bad shadow is compared to a good shadow and great shadow. Because of how bad those palettes were I didn't buy RBK palette with them because I couldn't trust the formula even with her saying it was a new formula that she approved. Collabs are so tricky so it sucks when they don't meet expectations however it's beyond exciting when they not only meet expectations but also blow past them into a new level of awesomeness which helps prevent a jaded view on all collabs.

Lol I’ll never forget the carli x bh palette because that was right when i started getting into makeup, and i found the second palette at Ulta and was obsessed. But every time i went back, for many months, they had TONS, like stacks of that palette in stock.... Definitely a weird move after the first collab they released

I didn't realize Adeline's song 'Yellow' was a promo or part of the collab. I thought it came out later and was just about her liking the color yellow, and if the pallet was in the video, it was just because she was proud of it? I remember her talking about paying for voice lessons and all the song and music video stuff herself (but that might of been after she had a few songs out, so idk). I thought she also wanted the pallet to be everything you would ever need and for every day (which all yellow doesn't seem like it would be), and I think some of the colors were for people, like her mom's favorite as well and such. Idk; I haven't watched her in a while; I remember her being really happy the pallet was vanilla scented, though.
Since this tends to be a pattern of Tarte to have more neutral palettes, I wonder if collaborators did not have much control.
