Loved, loved, loved Anna’s demonstration for making Rosemary salve. I think she’s a treasure. Please bring her back to share her wealth of how to use our herbs. ❤
omggg so kind of you to say!!!!!! Looking forward to sharing more info VERY soon!!!
@@PNW_anaI would LOVE to see more demonstrations from you!! Herbalism fascinates me so much, and since I’m a visual learner, books aren’t that helpful. One day I hope to be able to make all sorts of home remedies! ❤
Yes, this was really educational and interesting!
@@Alexden96ChannelI lovvvvveee hearing this!!! There will be a lot more sharing to come!!
@@PNW_anawheres your channel ana ? 😀
I want more of Ana! She is concise, easy to understand, has a clear voice, and has a lovely personality. Great choice, Kevin!
Couldn't agree more!
I love this. Would love to see more homemade gift ideas from the garden, as well as self-care, skin, and beauty infusion ideas.
You got it!
Yes! Came to say this very thing. Thank you for highlighting her page!
Anna made it easy to understand and what s beautiful gift for anyone!!!
Thank you for showcasing Ana. Please bring her back for more ideas for using herbs. What great gift ideas from you both ❤️❤️
Will do!!
Ana was terrific! A natural teacher who clearly loves to share her knowledge. Yes, more Ana!
omgggg sooooo kind of you!!! thank you!
@j.m.7056 wholeheartedly agree!
Kevin use the branches as skewers for kabobs! It's amazing! Even better if you cook with mesquite.
You can put it in chicken noodle soup and it's my favorite soup
You can also save the stems for placing inside of roasted or braised poultry cavities or use them to infuse stocks, broths or sauces!!!
I’m a HUGE fan of letting nothing (or at, as little as possible) go to waste, and will frequently do stuff like that! Whatever scraps can’t be fed to our pets (like carrot peels/ends bitter celery hearts, etc) gets turned into worm food/compost. Even coffee grounds and well steeped tea bag contents (I personally drink a LOT of tea, so it usually gets 3-4 STRONG/CONCENTRATED steepings before mixing together in a well balanced batch) get tossed outside immediately each day, and our desert plot is being to truly thrive!!!
Such a good idea!
My grandmother grows her own and then makes homemade bread with it. Omg if you’ve never had it before it might sound weird but get some from the store and try it. It’s amazing. Homemade is even better.
That sounds DELISH. I've put it in my sourdough before. - Kevin
Can you tell me how much to use in bread
@@judynoorda8046 Twice as much fresh if the recipe calls for dry
@@brainmic thank you so much. I can’t wait to try it.
I love rosemary in bread. Olives go well with it too.
Anna did a wonderful job of explaining her process. I would love to see more of Anna.
Thumbs up for Ana. Very informative and well-spoken.
Much appreciated!
I stayed in Petaluma years ago and Rosemary was grown as a hedge. It was beautiful and it just so happened to be blooming.
march storm in the SF Bay area this past march took out most if one of our rosemary hedges. I have dried most of it and am making rosemary infused
evoo (for cooking, and hair) and argan oil for hair. That rosemary infused evoo is great on roasted veggies or brushed or drizzled on salmon before cooking.
Videos that show me creative ways to use the herbs (and flowers and veg) I'm growing PLUS how to propagate more plants are gold!!! Love Anna, love this type of video!!
Ana is awesome! Stoked to see another PNW crew member and SUPER stoked about seeing you guys teach more about infusions and maybe... preservation? I love all your content and I'm happy to say you keep bringing in things that are increasingly relevant in my life!
woo hoo for the PNW!!!!!!
@@PNW_ana Hello. Do you have a channel? I'm also in WA and I hoping to gain some knowledge and maybe a friend!
I grow rosemary in a small 1gall pot on my balcony. It helps repel pests like worms laid by moths and aphids from going on my Sweetpotatoes, tomatoes, and other nearby plants. My mom doesn't use much of it because the flavor is very strong. It grows so well! I have been thinking of making some soap with it and have been wondering some other ways to use it (other than soap and cooking). Now I know. Thank you Ana! Amazing and informative video kev! ❤ Happy gardening! 🌱🍅 or should I say epic gardening 😎
So envious you can grow it as a perennial. I have to grow it in a container so I can bring it inside every winter - and so sad, I've never had one bloom. But love the tips from Ana - and the propagating! Thank you!
I brought mine in for the winter and placed it under my grow lights. Right now the whole plant is full of flower buds!
I agree with ceecee! We'll never see it bloom up here but grateful to know how to propagate it! Had a beautiful bush, quite large for this northern state. I dig itt up to keep in a pot in our garage and it still froze! So sad
You can make rosemary chocolates by putting some whole rosemary sprigs into the double-boiler with the chocolate chips as they are melting, then pulling the sprigs out before tempering/ transferring the chocolate to your molds of choice. Herbs and chilies can also be gently boiled in hot cream then strained out to make an infusion that you can use as the base for dessert dishes (whips, ganache, panna cotta, mousse etc). Rosemary pairs really well with white-chocolate!
You speak of utter WITCHCRAFT, and I find myself in great need of these bewitching “spells”/recipes…. Seriously…. The chocolate idea sounds AMAZING!!!! Please share…. 🥺
@@kaygau8817 There's no real "recipe" per se - mostly I just make a small addition to existing chocolate recipes to incorporate herbs. The CZcams channel HowToCookThat has a big library of chocolate-making videos that I've found really helpful.
To infuse herbs into existing chocolate I make the following changes:
1) *To flavour hard chocolate* that I plan to temper and set as a block/solid shell, I add the herbs as entire stems to the bowl with the chocolate pieces that I'm melting down to mold, so that the herb oils can infuse out into the chocolate as it warms up. Once the chocolate is melted, just pull the herb sprigs back out before tempering/ molding as usual (melted chocolate is hard to pass through a strainer so I find it easier to use large pieces of your infusion flavouring that can be easily fished back out with a fork/toothpick/chopsticks).
One thing to avoid here is letting any *water* or *juice* get into the chocolate as that turns it into "seized" chocolate that crumbles and doesn't set normally. Make sure you thoroughly pat-dry any fresh herbs before adding them, and if you want to add citrus/chilli consider using just the rind or dried versions to keep the juice away.
2) *To infuse creams,* you bring your cream up to a simmer on the stove, then add in chopped herbs/ chili/ spice-pods/ citrus zest. Let them simmer for a while to draw the oils and flavours out, then strain through a tea-strainer or mesh sieve.
2a) If you want to make ganache you can pour the strained hot cream infusion directly onto chopped chocolate and let the residual heat melt them together as you stir until smooth.
2b) With panna-cotta you would usually gently boil your cream, milk, sugar and gelatin with your infusion flavour (vanilla bean being the standard) and then strain it before pouring into your mold/serving dish. Just swap the vanilla for the herb of your choice (or add in both).
2c) For other applications, you can let the strained cream cool completely and use it like a standard cream for whipping, folding etc.
In my experience, rosemary as a dessert flavour pairs well with white chocolate, pistachio, figs and honey. It adds a savory note similar to salting caramel (in fact, infusing sea salt AND rosemary into white chocolate can be a good combo.)
Hope this works as a starting point!
Wow that sounds GOOD
@@epicgardening Thanks Kevin!
Something that might interest Jacques and Co: I've used the cream method to make a habenaro-pepper infused chocolate ganache before. Pepper-ganache filled chocolate truffles can be a good dump valve (and fun surprise treat) if the team ever find themselves mass-producing hot peppers again. 🌶💚
Loved having Anna on the channel. Do bring her back sometime soon.

We use rosemary alot when someone gets a runny nose thanks for the other ways. Thanks to you guys with the space i have i can grow tons of beans , strawberries and more 😊😊😊. Edit: how do we use it when someone gets a runny nose? We boil it then let the person inhale the steam.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Fresh rosemary is wonderful in so many dishes. I’m always snipping some off my 2 bushes.
Great addition to Epic Gardening! Anna’s salve is a great way to begin to use plants for healing. I made my first salves this year and definitely will do more.
Rosmarinus Officionalis can be trimmed and dwarfed bonsai-style. I've made rosemary look like miniature Monterey Cyprus as gifts. In just 3-4 years, your chosen "trunk" will thicken into a shaggy 2-3 inches at the base. I transplanted into mounded fungi-inoculated soil in wide square pots 5-6 inches deep, a bit larger than standard Bonsai pots. (I enjoy pottery, so I usually made my own, paying a friend to fire them for me) After established, I planted Creeping Mint around the base. Add a couple little craggy rocks and the Penjing illusion is of a old tree on a rocky hill. Trimmings from the mint make a nice tea. Pruning to expose the "trunk", removing almost all "needles" from around the initial forkings of your chosen "limbs", and from the undersides of your "branches", not only shapes the tree effect (while filling your dried-spice jars) but harvesting from the largest needles also "teaches" the rosemary to produce only smaller needles.
Rosemarinus Prostratus, with smaller needles to begin with, also produces usable spice of a slightly less intense flavor, and very quickly develops an aged-looking "trunk". It is called "prostratus" for a reason, though, and will require props and wiring to train it vertically. After 20-24 inches you can train the new growth into an astonishing illusion of a Weeping Spruce ... except in season it will be full of tiny pastel purple and lavender flowers. Bees love them, so it's best to give them a week outside out of the wind in partial sun.
Yes, Ana! Her explanations are clear, she paces her speech and her voice is pleasant. She is a great addition to your team.
Thank you for your kind words!!
Yes, definitely please have Ana back on the channel! Would love to see more of her ideas😊

When I look at Rosemary needles I think of the needles on a Christmas tree I don't know why thank you for this video have a great day take care y'all 💞🎉
Loved Anna! KEVIN, maybe next time try showing how to make herb butters. Also, it might be a good idea to remind people that they can reach out to their local food pantry if their associated with the food pantry, some will take donations from established gardeners. I brought Rosemary into the food pantry around Thanksgiving and Christmas and everyone went nuts for it.
Yes more from Anna, please. Bee love the little blue flowers! 🐝🐝🐝 My nephew would squat down and "pet" them, till he got stung!!🐝
Agreed! Ana is lovely. Enjoyed her enthusiasm and easy to follow tips and instructions. We appreciate her sharing!!
When I do oil extracts, I use a French press instead of a cheesecloth. MUUUCH less messy when squeezing the oils from the herb. Hope that helps anyone trying it out. Typically, I do it for cannabis extracts haha.
Yesssss - a french press works really well, too!! Great call out!
