- This is what happens when you let TWO Curly Vloggers go shopping together. S/O to my Curl Friend Curly Penny for helping me show y'all how to choose the BEST products for your curly hair. It is SO important to read the labels on these products. The hair product section can be very intimidating but this method really helps narrow things down....
1. No Sulfate
2. No Silicone

*IMPORTANT UPDATE* Thanks to you ladies sharing your knowledge, "Methosulfate" surprisingly is NOT a sulfate! Found this researching... "Generally, sulfates are only in shampoos since they are foaming agents. If you see “behentrimonium methosulfate” do not worry. This is usually used in conditioners to thicken and detangle" PHEW! GOOD TO KNOW! This means that the CANTU Curl Activator is ok!!
Another Update, there is 1 Cantu Leave In Conditioner with silicone and 1 Mielle Organics Curl Smoothie product with silicone! UGH! Bummer. CHECK ALL LABELS! Thanks for sharing everyone! Let's continue to help each other find the BEST products!
BRANDS where ALL of their products are Sulfate, Paraben & Silicone Free:
- DevaCurl
- Curls
- Curl Keeper
- Briogeo
- Rizos Curls
- Camille Rose Naturals
- Shea Moisture
- Maui Moisture
- Bounce Curl
Who Else Can I Add to this list? Please leave a comment and let us know if you are CONFIDENT that their ENTIRE line checks out!
Many times brands will have a sulfate free shampoo but NOT a silicone free conditioner. Or maybe a silicone free GEL but not a silicone free leave in conditioner... you just have to READ! These are no secrets... we're literally just reading the fine print ... 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

Love your commitment to keeping us all in the know! And, love you and Penny together!
BiancaReneeToday Aussie made me upset because of dimethicone.. and Cantu got rubbing alcohol.. and I can’t throw them away.. I *just* got them too!
Another update: Shea Moisture does have at least one product with silicone. It's the Manuka honey and mafura oil deep conditioner (I think) so be cautious! Bianca girlie, you told us to never be misleaded by the front, and I agree! Not trying to bash you, I was shocked when I heard this in a SM product too.
BiancaReneeToday u didn't do the mane choice, alikay naturals
You should change the title to how to shop for CG friendly products. Only because there are some of us with natural hair that do use silicones but at the same time it doesn’t really give our hair that much problems. I have low porosity hair and silicones don’t give me build up or anything like that. My hair is also super super thick so the silicones are actually good for me. Just use what works best for you. This video is just for people that want products that are 100% natural. I use mixed checks which may have silicones but it’s a OG favorite and it’s awesome.
There should be a app for this to make it easy for us so we can scan the bottle and the app would give us RED/GREEN signal
There's a curlsbot app but you have to write the ingredients yourself.
Maria Harteva do uk the name of the app
@@mariaenroth7058 is there similar app for ios? :/
Mouse White and try an app called think dirty see if it helps
Theres an app being tested/developed now called Curl Check!
*goes into bathroom and reads labels on all hair products *
Omg same and I founded silicone on my shampoo and conditioner
Same, like as i was looking at this vid I actually dashed into my bathroom and checked it. OMG thats why my hair was soooo frizzy, it because it contained a lot of sulfur and etc.
Love Art same, i checked my shampoo and it has silicones. that's why my hair is REALLY frizzy. the problem is that i'm the only one in my family with curly hair and i live in serbia so it's really hard to find things for curly hair since 98% of serbia has straight hair. (i'm mixed)

Is palmers cocoa butter conditioner good? I bought it
Lyba Rashid it has dimethicone and it’s doesn’t allow product to pass through your hair shaft
Is Cantu good?
Alexis Thao Yes it is good for some people, but I heard that the leave ins contains isopropyl alcohol, which dries your hair out. I have it and it works fine for me. You should try it to see.
I love how you guys can just pronounce all those chemical names with absolute ease, I would have been tounge tied.

All hair products in my bath room have sulfate.
god...
Sira Wet I know mine do because I just gave up. I couldn’t find ANYTHING without these bad ingredients bc there’s so many out there. After this video I’m going to repurchase all new products
I know how you feel
same
Sira Wet I had a load of shampoos with sulfates and instead of getting rid of them, I just used them as body wash so they wouldn’t go to waste!
Missy D. She never said it’s been working and also the girls in this video are talking about sulfates destroying your hair. That’s factual and there is plenty of evidence of it being bad for your hair so listening to them isn’t a bad thing
2:39
When they single out the conditioner you've been using for 6 months
just the conditioner? I use both LOL. AND THE SCRUNCHING GEL
but if it works for your hair, who cares?

my mama won't spend more than $5.00 on any type of shampoo or conditioner so yep I'm stuck.
ᴀʀᴍʏ same! But I’m only 13 and I gotta buy everything myself with my own money (and what I mean with that is left over money form christmas or my birthday) and when I run out I run out. 😭😭
Ciara it’s a struggle 😭. the only thing i have left is conditioner, shampoo and gel. i don’t even have a leave in conditioner
The Garnier Fructis products (aka the 1 minute masks; nothing else is really "safe" for your hair) can be bought under $5, but the value per unit goes up that way (aka you pay more in the long run).
ᴀʀᴍʏ I use Suave essentials coconut conditioner (32 Oz) for $2, Wetline Xtreme gel for $3 (squeeze bottle with green cap), Suave clarifying conditioner for clarifying once a week ($2) , and as a leave in, Suave Daily Clarifying Conditioner ($2)
Hope this helps ❤️
*marni* I don’t mean to offend, but as a child you shouldn’t have to buy your own hair products, it’s just like soap or clean clothes. It really doesn’t seem fair, but I hope you don’t struggle too hard.
The penny looks like alessia cara😩
My thoughts exactly 😍
Plot twist: she is actually alessia cara and doing curly videos on a side😂

PinkVampire21 lmao I found that funny too
I found this really easy way to figure out what to look out for

Safeeya B. It all seems really confusing, anything else a curly haired person should avoid/look out for? I heard too much protein is bad for hair but I feel like every hair product contains protein.
You should totally watch Manes by Mell’s videos on the truth about Sulfates and Silicones, just type in Melthbusters
@@AnythingBtOrdinary91 i just use what i feel works for my hair. Honestly thats alot less stressful once i stopped caring about all the rules. Everyones hair is different.

Farrahdreamz, I totally agree with you.. young Lady! This is very informative
Some natural curlies & kinkies actually use sulfates & silicones & have no problem with it. Aussie moist & Herbal Essences Hello Hydration are both very popular & low budget. U don’t have 2 follow the cg method 2 have healthy hair. The cg method is good, but I know lots of naturals that use ORS, Pantene, etc. & their hair is gorgeous
Lauryn Alana yessss I’ve been using Pantene since I was younger and my hair is healthy but it hasn’t been growing and I’m tired of having shoulder length for years
YES i sat if it work use it
I dont get why silicone is a bigger deal than coconut oil, they are both heavy emulsifying ingredients that if you use enough will weigh down your hair and will need more than a co wash to wash out so??? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Sonya Matyushenko is you’re using a sulfate free shampoo, those usually don’t remove silicones, so they just build up on your hair and make it limp and lifeless and prevent it from growing. But if you use a sulfate shampoo, it’ll get it out, but sulfates are terrible for your hair
Cheyenne Stevenson Not if you use a great deep conditioner afterwards. I have used some sulfate free shampoo’s that are actually very stripping themselves. To me herbal essence is hello hydration shampoo doesn’t strip as much as shea moisture’s charcoal shampoo. At the end of the day I would just say use what works best for you whether you’re following the CG method or not
My ULTIMATE pet peeve is there are shampoo/conditioner duo's and the shampoo is sulphate free but the conditioner has silicone!! that is just a product buildup nightmare
Curly Susie exactly!!!
I’m like omggg it smells good, and is sulphate free!! But then I see the ingredient for the other product 🤦🏻♀️
Lol just watched your hair routine video!
Waves at Curly Susie! Now there's a colab that needs to happen! 😁
Yes, like the entire Organix line that was recommended to me by a hair stylist as one of the "better" drugstore options. I didn't realize it was making my hair look and feel terrible until I tried out different products.
In Germany we don't even have a curl section😭😂

Currently I oil my hair with extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, then I leave it in over night in a bun and it hydrates my hair soooooooo much. Then in the morning I will take a shower with a sulfate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner and boooooiiiiiii my hair so soft
This sounds so good, definitely gonna try it
Doesn’t soft hair like makes hair undefined?
I like coconut scented stuff but every time I put actual coconut oil in my hair the smell makes me nauseous. 🤢

Auriana Hall same here 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Girl literally half of my whole hair collection is gone now 😂
Just thought I should quickly mention, although Carol's Daughter definitely has silicones in it, Behetrimorium methosulfate is not a sulfate, it's rapeseed oil, that's why it's boldly used in Curls products.
Thank you! My Ouidad meltdown has this in it and it has amodimethicone so I was afraid I had been using a double whammy. LOL
Melinda Mercier thank youuuuu, I saw that on my hair product n i was so scared.
She said that in her comment on here. Not trying to start anything.
Carols' Daughter has lost so much quality. They say no sulfate but their shampoos are loaded silicones. I stick to shea moistgure it's affordable and easy to find
Mr87peabody I think she meant grapeseed oil
tell me why i can smell all these products through my computer

I was blessed to be adopted when I was a little baby, however everyone around me is white and they don't know whats good for my curly thick hair. So I appreciate videos on educating the people for what's good and not. I've been learning and teaching myself all these years and this helps so much!

Also, if you see cetearal alcohol on the ingredients don’t be worried because cetearal alcohol is a fatty alcohol and is actually pretty good for your hair :) I was so confused when I first heard about this because I was told to avoid all alcohols haha
T H I C C omg thank u so much!! i was confused
Hi, I have to say that this helps me a lot. I am from Europe and instead of looking for products that are in Europe, I watched hair videos in English such as yours, about sulfate free products and this really helps me a lot to know which products I should purchase on amazon. thanks

Deva curl has bad ingredients also its been proven ppl have been doing videos, it’s the worst for long terme use ahaha (if you watch Ayesha Malik video she proved it and even the apps says so)
Love from Pretoria, South Africa. True that, girl! Lucky I never bought it. We should read and research ALL ingredients and not blindly grab a product just cos it's sulphate, paraben and silicone free! What about all the other chemicals? Deva Curl just proved my point!
@@chacala7501 Malik said to hold onto your bottles and if the lawsuits go through you might get financial compensation I'd read up on it yourself though cause I'm not certain

Being curly in western Canada is a challenge. You need to go to specialty stores. It is unfortunate how few curly friendly products are available inexpensively and easily.
If you haven't already check out Curly Suzie here on YT. She's a Canadian curly girl!
SAME HERE IN LATINAMERICA. I check ig stores and they try to sell me us drugstore products highly overpriced
Same!! I'm more wavy than curly but still, it's ridiculous. I've done the best I can, and I'm ok with what I'm currently using because it is helping me be a bit more curly, but they aren't cg friendly at all, and it's hurts my soul to know I could be even more curly if I could afford/find the right stuff.
For real
Carol's Daughter? Cream of Nature? We were rooting for you! We were All rooting for you! How Dare you!? LEARN something from this!
Thank you so much for this. I've been using "curly hair products" (Pantene curly hair line, etc.) and my hair is brittle and dry. Omg. I never knew that some of those brands were damaging my hair instead of helping it. I’ve used at least 5 of those products and still use 2 of them... welp time so go shop for some curl products
Can you do a part 2?? Also can you do a Cantu hair review??
I will never stop using Aussie moist
My daughter has high density low porosity and thick strands. She has relaxed hair. Whenever I deep condition with Aussie moist her roots are so soft and her hair feels awesome. I am natural and my hair loves it too. Love it
Curly penny is lowkey body goals

THIS!
Exactly how I feel
Oh nuu. I wish curly products that are safe would be shipped everywhere!
well your twin lives in america....cause my name is maya and im in NY ..........dont worry ill send you some...even though i just grab and go
You can also Google for natural product recipes such as tomatoes for your hair, avocados and mayonnaise!
Mayonnaise can do wonders for your hair as a moisturizer. I try to use it at least twice a month.
😊😁😋🙇♀️ Mayonnaise: leave it on for several hours or sleep over it then shower the next day. Great moisturizer!
Is there a Walmart in your area? I live in Canada and that's the only place they sell Shea Moisture and Cantu. Sephora sells DevaCurl products. You can also order whatever you want from Amazon :)

Oh wow! This was so hopeful. Like wow! I'm so reading ingredients now. Just when I though I was using a "natural" product. Now I have to change my shampoo & conditioner.
"One day of deep conditioning" I never felt something more in my life. My hair masks might last one or two sessions
That for me covers only half of my hair so it's not even one day conditioning it's HALF lol
Aussie moist is amazing for my hair, all curly hair is different because half of that shea moisture stuff is crap for my hair
rach31mari3x0 yeah shea moisture does nothing for my hair. I stopped using it after 2 weeks. Lol
rach31mari3x0 use monat babe HMU for a discount
Dont listen to her dont ever use monat, infact do vigorous reseach about it and dont trust MLM's.
Shea moisture is horrible for my hair I use sulfate and silicone I'm fine do some research because sulfate is in toothpaste and in various body washes so are you going to stop using toothpaste? Dont listen to them find what works for you and all those sulfate and silicone free stuff is expensive
REUBEN THERE DONE THAT what a ridiculous uninformed comment you posted lmao sulfate shampoos and conditioners, while they may not visibly damage your hair it is weakening it and causing breakage which is one of the reasons your length stays the same or you have to use extra products to control frizz dryness or excessive oils if u reduce the amount of sulfates the better ur hair will react to the good products and the less products u need to maintain styles THINK and do RESEARCH just because one product they say works for them doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean the entire research is wrong have common sense
These products are WAY too expensive for me😭 gotta stick with da sulfates for now
Use Cantu, it is super cheap but super good
Your hair should be more important than a couple extra dollars , but do you 😂😭😭😭 .. I get it not everybody has the extra money but your hairs health is super important

I work the beauty section of Target and I don't know much about hair, but I get a lot of questions about products. This video has helped me be able to help my customers with confidence. Thank you so much

this is helped me so much i been using herbal essence and i realised sulfate and silicon is bad for my hair thanks i will never use it again

Tbh i've tried all this curly girl method crap on my 2C hair and it looks nowhere near as good as it did when I used the herbal essences purple curly line, doesnt smell as good either.
Irene Arlet that’s most likely since your hair is only a 2c,that’s wavy not curly so maybe some of these products aren’t tailored for your hair?(a lot of “curly” products are designed for deep moisture and definition)
HTR xox what does a 2c mean
jennifer h it is a hair type
It’s not your mothers is amazing!!! Amazing slip i had to double check they were clean i loved them so much.
Charis Hollinger thank so much for the comment! I was at Walgreens forever trying to figure out if it was safe. They have a bogo deal going on!

I've never used Carol's Daughter products... and now I never will LOL (unless they take out that dimethicone) but I'm a bit surprised! My roommate uses their products so I'm scared to share the news with her...😭
Amanda Bicket I use Aphogee treatment and it have in dimethicone and amodimethicone it's only now I realize them ain't good for ya hair😭😢 but I can't throw away the product cause that would be my money gone😌
Amanda Bicket I’m so sad rn😭 I use carol’s daughter ALL THE TIME😬
Dimethicone is water soluble so you don’t need to use a sulfate shampoo unlike amodimethicone which isn’t water soluble
Katherinne Montrose THATS WHAT IVE BEEN TRYNA SAY BRUH
Amanda Bicket if she wants to use products with sulfate she can actually because it works for her hair ( use what works for your hair)

miruna268 you can try in drugstores
You should be able to find garnier products, some of them are curly girl friendly.
Where in europe do you live? Here in the Netherlands they got about the same as not more! Also stuff from the UK
Oh and there's no such thing as damn europe thank you very much. Maybe in you're country but here in the Netherlands we got the same stuff
It may be a strange question, but are you from Romania? Because I am and I know a lot of girls with the name Miruna
Omg! You guys are too cute together! Love this video 🍍💜
Honestly I couldn't have asked for a better video for curly girls ❤. Because growing up with no one in your family having curly hair. I still haven't found products that have done what I wanted them to do for my hair 😂 . So, this helped me a lot because now I know what is bad from my hair, and what I need to stray away from. ❤😘
MIXED CHICKS KIDS LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER has amodimethicone ( silicone) well that explains my kids dry hair.😦
OMG I wanted to try this too! Thanks for the warning
When Deva curl changed many yrs ago, added theA-cone in, because the first book, said that was actually water soluble. It is not. eventually your hair ends up, flat, and dry. AVOID. Also careful on the polyquats, can also build up..Worst ones, :7,10,11
You girls are amazing !! Loved the video , very helpful!! ❤️
Came over from Penny's channel. Thanks sooooo much for making this video. It gets very over whelming trying to find new, more affordable products. So, this video helped a lot. My hair texture is like yours so, I'm definitely going to subscribe for more helpful hair tips.
