I think its cool and important to see how far you come with doing creative things. sometimes when you feel like your'e not good and not moving forward going back can humble you and really put into perspective how far you came. I'm glad I did this

I resonate with what you said about always shooting empty things and realizing you wanted to document the things around you and your life, and that's what felt fulfilling and meaningful. While I obviously don't directly relate with the things you shoot (I'm white, I live in one of the safest countries in the world etc so gun culture and gun violence aren't a part of my life whatsoever), I definitely understand where you're coming from, and my main goal and what makes me feel fulfilled when it comes to photography is documenting my life and the things that surround me. I think that's why I love the stuff you create, and why it feels more familiar to me then most of these popular Instagram pages that post trendy stuff all the time. I really enjoyed this video, thank you.

It's crazy because I started following you end of 2014 and I remember a lost of these. I think it's pretty cool how you took a lot of these photos of subjects most photography fans don't see and used those IG "banger" edits which made your subject matter super accessible for kids like me to see and learn about the world. This video makes me super nostalgic about that era of my life, this is when I really fell in love with photography, and it was dope to see you go back and look at these

I appreciate the discussion with the gun photo. I heard from somewhere that the best things you’ll photograph are the things close to you. That ties in with what you said, there are guns, it would be fake to document Detroit without talking about guns. Great work, glad I subscribed

    16:15 - Being our self-critics as creators.
Hell yeah, it's the normal cycle of self-admiration / self-hate of any creator who grows.
That self-critique is what pushes us forward; I see some people who just love what they do and repeat the same shit over and over.
But they never improve & honestly, it sucks...
Yeah, if you don't see the flaws in what you do you'll be happy about it, but that's not how you improve.

Not only is it normal for you to feel those pictures are shit, but the fact that you don't like the pictures you took 6 years ago means that you've improved in those 6 years. The bad thing would be for you to look at them and be like "yeah i'd do exactly the same". Whenever that happens, you've stopped learning, and not because you know everything, cause you never will. You should hope to one day see the pictures you are now proud of and think you wouldn't take/edit them the same way
