I agree with fans who say it's too dear for a book that can be read in an afternoon and it comes down to how often will you view the photos.
I preordered it because it's fun to be on the planet, even the same country, at the same time as this particular genius. If you're 64, and I am, then it's no exaggeration to say McCartney's music and personality has been in the air ever since we could understand what music *is* - - part of life since, say 1962, when it was first happening.
So any current happening straight from the source plugs into that heritage. It's not the same buzz that you get from a release by 'the estate' of someone. It's the difference between an autobiography written by the subject and an autobiography that's ghost-written.
For instance a personal touch that suggests continuity is choice of publisher. McCartney's into cultural tradition: he'd know for sure that Penguin brought modern classics within reach of the man in the street when he was browsing in Philip Son & Nephew. And later, 'The Mersey Sound.' That's the kind of detail that an 'estate' can overlook but well on Paul McCartney's radar.
I received my copy today but will wait until my day off to enjoy this book. I was privileged to have seen the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964.
The gift that keeps on giving. Clearly Paul had some talent using his camera. A book well worth having. Looking forward to your thoughts on the ‘new’ track.
All the photos in the book that were taken in America were from February 1964. After their concert in Washington they travelled to Miami Florida for their third appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show at The Deauville Hotel broadcast 23 February 1964.
Thankyou Andrew a lovely review the book is well made, and the photos are with their recollections which I like, and the photos sums up the Beatle mania so well. I also liked the radio four interview with Paul and Martha . Carnt wait for your next video Thankyou .
What an exciting couple of days, Paul getting prime time tv interview on The One Show and waking up to the news there's going to be one last Beatles single. The book looks fantastic. I agree for the price of the kindle version you might as well pay the extra 10-15 for the book. Thanks for the review Andrew, amazing how we're still getting unreleased Beatles content.
I received my book about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. The closest Paul McCartney autobiography we ever got was the excellent Barry Miles biography, “Many Years From Now”. I’m looking forward in your next vid on the “Now and Then” Beatles song that Paul’s working on.
I saw the Beatles in 1964 in San Francisco. Wonderful times. I'd buy the book. Heady times. Lots of love
Thank you so much for this Andrew, I look forward to going to my bookstore and getting a copy. What I like about it is that it’s all from Paul’s point of view, and the whirlwind that they were all in at the time (nice to see that Jane Asher hasn’t been left out).
Nice to see that Paul has included some photos of Jane, I guess she's the one that got away.
There will be a new Beatles song released here in 2023.
Why do u think that
@@emilioaramalvarado3402 Paul said that
@@beatlemangle1712 wtf rlly ?
@@emilioaramalvarado3402 yes, check out his new interview.
It's all over the news this morning an old demo with John's voice the world of artificial intelligence.
Hi Andrew, after my comment the other day, I flipped through the book. I just finished reading Paul's commentary and now I'm at the Preface. I enjoy reading about the history of the time even though I remember it as if it were yesterday! I was a young pre-teen when they hit the U.S. So glad I lived through those days! And yes the book is definitely big and heavy too! As usual, an enjoyable video. Cheers!
Thanks Andrew, great review. My copy arrived this afternoon, fantastic book with wonderful photos.
That is quite thick. Mine arrives any minute now!
My copy arrived today, which was surprising because I ordered it on Monday. The obi and the lack of dustjacket has got me thinking I should look into getting a clear archival book cover for this.
I am glad he is finally opening up about Jane Asher, even if it's just a little. We don't need to know intimate details, but she is a part of his history
Thanks Andrew! Getting my copy today. The Jill Lepore New Yorker article is wonderful!
I hope to get it sometime in the future. I'll never be able to retire if Paul keeps crashing my budget.
We always knew Ringo was a photographer, but this one comes as a surprise
I am so grateful that Paul is still more than willing to do these things for the fans.
Andrew, who is your favorite Beatle?
Paul is number 1 for me 👍
@@AndrewDixonMusic Paul is a very likable person. I’m a Lennon guy all the way though
Any "new" Beatles product interests me. I've been a fan since 1962 and my interest has never wavered, I'm 70 now...not to old to Rock and Roll.
Thank you for informaction!
Thanks, Andrew for another great video!
I don’t plan on getting the book. For me, it’s all about the music, so bring on the London Town and BTTE archive sets!
My book is arriving today, have to say I am surprised at the size. Thank you for sharing this today. Take care.
What a new beatles song, you gotta be kidding me right?
My copy is on the way! Can't wait to see it. I hope you get to the exhibit. I was planning to fly over, but illness may have grounded me this summer. I wonder if the National Portrait Gallery will have any posters, too? Do let us know if you go. Best, Jason
Piper up high....good choice! Anyway, the Beatles coming to America paved the way for us glided us thru and into the 60's with class and high values that without them we would have not made it!
I also got the book and I think it‘s incredible to see a part of Beatlemania almost from Paul‘s perspective!
Was just at the Mathew St museum last month! That roll of film is still undeveloped sadly
Great vid by the way, on my birthday present list lol
The roll of film at the beatles museum is still behind the glass case, i went recently & asked about it and they said some time in the future for it to be developed. For all they know the pics might not turn out
Thanks for the update!
That's no reason not to develop them. What are they waiting for?
The McCartney 1964 book is half price at Waterstones until Monday - only £30. (They’re doing double loyalty points too, so you get the equivalent of another £6.00 in points too on top)
Miami was in February 1964. The 2nd Ed Sullivan show!
I think Ringo might have some photos from those days as well.
Will get eventually. Think it'll be a good companion piece to the recent releases, Mad Day Out, In Indian, London 1963. It is honestly quite inexpensive when you think about the quality and care put into it. Plus, I've just spotted Who Are The Plastic Ono Band on your bookshelf, something I'd forgotten about. So cheers for that too.
I believe the Miami photos were taken in winter. It can seem like summer there by February.
Inevitably, as both a Beatles fan and a pro photographer, I will get this book! Sucked in yet again! To be fair, the images I have seen are pretty impressive and they have a nice photojournalistic feel, especially in black and white. I do suspect that the actual date at which Macca 'discovered' these 'lost' images was somewhat tactical. I had to let out a bit of a groan at the One Show interview. Lauran Laverne had obviously been primed to ask just the right kind of questions, the answers to which we've all heard before, other than those specifically aimed at these images of course. You gotta love Macca. He has marketing in his blood.
I doubt he's doing this for money.
@@alexandrebenois7962 True! Maybe I'm being a little cynical. The book is genuinely interesting and the images are great. He certainly has an eye for composition and light.
Mall Evans book out NOV23.
Gracias desde México por esta información
Good to see Beatles for sale getting an airing
The best beatles album for harmony imho
And one of my fav Monos
I Don't Want To Spoil The Party, sensational.
Paul is THE Beatle....a must read.
Yes, the year of HIS inexplicable 4 inch growth spurt.

Hi Andrew just heard "Now & Then" from the late 70s with John may be released officially this year. This was to be the 3rd song with the guys to be included on Anthology 3. Have you heard any news?
PS August 1964 at the Cow Palace. San Francisco
Cheers, Andrew. I wonder if the '64 book will be followed by an annual '65, ''66, '67 etc. book. I mean, it's not like Paul gave up photography after this first year. xx
Better leave room in the budget then.... I would/will buy every one!
Regarding the new Beatles single due,Paul said there was an unreleased demo of John's which was extracted via AI,making John's voice sound "very pure".
This time next year it will probably be in 'The Works' for a tenner, which is when I'll buy it. As of now,its not something I feel the need to rush out and buy.
Hi mate
A nice book with some great photos, but this time I'll pass.
I prefer reading.
Hope you enjoy it
Take care
Thanks mate as always. Peace and love
Is there a video of the exhibition in London?
I've got a review video of it but I didn't film inside czcams.com/video/-tEcntcuqhg/video.html
Andrew, twice you said the color photos are from the summer of 1964. The pictures are actually from Miami the third week in February of 1964. MR Stickermania
Thank you for the correction, I don't know how I got that in my head!
A bit 'off subject' here, but I think you're the one many of us look to for Beatles news, so I'll ask you. There are a number of reports, today, about Paul saying there's going to be a final Beatles track released later this year. Do you have any insights into this?
Hi Andy, I'm planning on talking about this in my live stream at 9pm (half an hour)
Thank you, Andrew. So kind of you to put up a review so fast.😂 Enjoy the book.
Sorry Andrew, but you keep misplacing the Miami photos as being shot in August 1964, but they were actually taken in that same first trio to America in February
Agree! You're right!
Thank you for the correction. It's left me a little baffled as I remember reading something this afternoon that mentioned it was August but of course can't find it now!
@@AndrewDixonMusic I believe they did tour North America that summer, so it is indeed possible they were 'back' in Miami a few months after the February visit. I await the 59 year old "news" as I'm too lazy to go look it up 🙂
Fascinating book😄
Master! Will you talk about the "New" Beatles song?😇🥳
Paul McCartney said: He is working with AI. Probably on "Now and then".
Hi Andrew,
I'd like you to compare this photo book with Ringo Starr's photo book. What are the differences? Is one a better photographer than the other? Which book should you get if you could only buy one? Et cetera.
Cheers,
Micha
Hi Micha, unfortunately I don't have the Ringo book so it's not a comparison I'm able to make. I will ask around on my live stream tonight to see if anyone has both and what thoughts they have.
@@AndrewDixonMusic As far as I have seen, Ringo's book contains b e a u t i f u l photos! I think you'd be very pleased to own a copy.
Any good Andrew ?
What’s your feelings on the use of AI in crafting this new track using the Lennon demo?
Cheers.
Will be easier to comment once we've heard it. I hope the AI aspect is purely to separate John's voice from other elements on the tape (guitar, tape hiss etc.) while preserving John's voice as it would have been, rather than trying to make it artificially different from what it would haves sounded like in the room.
@@AndrewDixonMusic I think I’ve heard the demo of now and then before on CZcams. Wasn’t it written by John in the Dakota during his late 1970s period when he dropped out of the public eye for a few years?
It sounds a decent enough track, I’m not sure it’s as strong as free as a bird or real love but I hope to be proven wrong!
Regardless, it is quite exciting to look forward to!
Miami is Feb winter of 64
no London Town Remaster yet 😡
Great video Andrew thanks for sharing, what do you think of this Paul book and Ringo's version of photographs book he published in 2013 is it the same type of thing ? (I have neither as yet so just intrigued what you think)
Hi, sorry I can't compare it to Ringo's book as I haven't read that one.
Jane has spent the last 45+ years removing herself from Paul and the Beatles. She simply does not acknowledge any of it. After the lies he told about her, the way he treated her, I feel he should have respected her feelings and not made her a part of it.
Another dust collector for the shelf
What has this book to do with their music?????.
It's the biggest aspidistra in the world!
✌😎💖👁
I've just put in an order through an Australian online bookstore-Booktopia,it ended up being $96.99 with various discounts applied.
Not being funny I got Ringo Starr of photographs and it's about the same size as when you're old in I'll wait a year or two when it goes right down the price then I will buy it
Does Pail give credence to AI Inhancement ?
1964 the real paul not billy
£60 quid or even £45.. Bit steep.
1964 was pre Billy Shears
Here we go again.
2023 is still pre Billy Shears.
@@maksgaminghd2870Enough with that BS already!
@@sharigreen9252 it’s a fake story. Nobody can be replaced and mimic that individual 100% without everyone noticing. It’s literally boring. It’s been boring for the past 60 years.
@@maksgaminghd2870 I know! I remember when it started in 1969. I was 17 (you know what I mean!) I never believed it for one minute. Have you ever seen the Sage of Quay website and all the so-called "evidence"? It's laughable.
Hi Andrew, Since you've removed the BBC One interview (what happened?), I am replying to you here instead.
Here is the link to the interview with the cameraman: czcams.com/video/_uYiFiP9snw/video.html
Yeah I'm not being funny I'm a Beatles fan but I'm not willing to spend 40 or £50 on the book at taking the f****** pissed to be honest with you come on Paul you know Paul you're not exactly hard up read the cost of living crisis he should be low in that to a minimum £20
why is an American historian prefacing this book? I don't get it.
Paul has become so pompous.
