  • Possible reasons why your natural hair is breaking off and thinning, why your natural hair is falling out, why you natural hair texture is changing, and why your natural hair won't grow.
Hey Guys, I hope this video is informative for you and helps. I'm not a doctor, and as always, suggest you go to your doctors for verification, but here are a few reasons why you may be experiencing issues with your natural hair. If you notice a sudden texture change in your hair, your hair is falling out or breaking off, then it could be a sign of one or a few issues that I'll talk about in this video. Again, I'm not a doctor, this is all information that I've learned while researching and verifying my own health and hair issues. I also share my entire detailed hair health story as it relates to my recent health issues. I hope this video helps! Xo! Nap
Topics: Vitamin D deficiency and hair loss, alopecia hair loss, candida hair loss, thyroid hair loss, gluten hair loss, celiac disease and hair loss, parasites hair loss and thinning, adrenal fatigue hair loss and texture change.

I find myself thinking about sweets more often! I’m 66! I should know better. I had a hemorrhagic stroke so I have many symptoms of adrenal fatigue. However, I think it’s what I have too. I’m going to my doctor appointment on the 11th. 🤯

Thanks for all the love on the video guys! For those wondering about why I didn't go to a doctor sooner, like I mentioned, I didn't know that my symptoms were even an issue. They crept up on me slowly, over the course of 3 years... I didn't even notice I was going through any changes until my body started shutting down dramatically. I thought it was normal to be tired because I was a new mom, or because of work. I couldn't piece together how I felt before, compared to how I felt now, because it happened so slowly that it BECAME my normal. That's the reason I wanted to make this video. Because many of us are in a SLOW decline without realizing it. The symptoms become unnoticeable, and your perception EVOLVES throughout the years to think that you're doing fine, because you can't remember how you felt prior.
If you go to the doctor and they ask you how you are, and you answer, "I'm feeling fine," because you think that you are... that's where the medical attention stops. The doctor will only know what to look for if you tell them your symptoms. If you don't think you have any, then they won't go looking for anything. So I'm happy that this video has a lot of you questioning, and most importantly, NOTICING your symptoms. Even if it turns out that nothing is wrong, it's great that you're addressing it because you never know.
I know that a lot of people in the medical field turn their noses up at people "self-diagnosing" but honestly... if you DON'T self diagnose, it can become really hard for a doctor to find that starting point for which to look into what could be wrong. I think it's great to research what may be going on in your own body. I will ALWAYS consult my doctor for their professional opinion when I realize I need it. But this video was not about telling people to "self-diagnose," it's about asking people to stop and really think about how they're feeling. And think about any symptoms that they may be feeling, that they didn't realize were happening. And then if you notice any symptoms, to consult your doctor. So for those wondering why I hadn't consulted sooner, the answer is in the video. I just did not know. And that's the whole point.
I'm really thankful to have so many of you as well because you all have helped teach me a lot of what I know now about health in general. It's through discussions like this that I learn more, and that we're all able to share our experiences and teach each other how to live healthier. XoXo!! 💗

+Naptural85 Thank you so much for sharing your story! I'm glad you were able to pinpoint what the issue was and work on getting better. So many of us play so many roles we accept feeling less than stellar and there really is an issue. I also want to thank you for making my hair journey SO much easier! You have always gave solid, well researched, and needed videos. I big chopped three years ago and have never regretted doing so. I truly have a love relationship (finally) with my hair.

+Naptural85 Hi Whitney, Thank you for sharing and I'm very happy to hear you don't have a thyroid problem. I currently suffer from autoimmune hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease) from the age of 17 yrs and I had to cut all my hair off as it was falling out terribly. This is also when i decided to go natural as I was receiving Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment for my thyroid issues and it worked wonderfully. However unfortunately it is an autoimmune problem and i therefore have it for life. I'm 22 yrs now and I am still learning to cope with it and what triggers may cause me to relapse, but I'm very happy you found out the reasons for your symptoms and keep well. Stay healthy and blessed :D

At one point i was going to some type of doctor once a week, ppl even started to think that i had a mental disorder and was making everything up even tho they could see the symptoms. i started the detox and already feel a little better. I just really wanted to say thank you!!! 😃

Wow, this is so sad! It’s crazy how doctors can’t detect these things, and as a result, they blame and put it on the patient and claim THEY’RE the one’s who are crazy merely because, as doctors, they don’t have the technology or brains to detect the underlying issue. Very, very sad.
I too am experiencing the same issues. My hair texture is absolutely insane. I’ve never seen my hair so dry and brittle, and it seems as if this drastic change happened over such a short period of time. My hair won’t even curl in the shower anymore and I do NOT use heat or chemicals on my hair.
I’m positive that this is a diet issue, but I’ve been trying to find the right diet for YEARS now and I still haven’t found one that has improved my health completely. I’m really struggling and I can’t even go to a physician for help! 🤦🏾‍♀️🤧

This is very good information . Unfortunately for me, by the time mine was caught my thyroid stopped working (underactive Thyroid). I suffer from Hashimoto Disease which is where your bodies immune system turns on itself and attacks your organs. My body thought my Thyroid was foreign so it attacked and killed it. Thyroid disease is so prevalent, especially in African American women and goes unnoticed because we attest everything to being tired from work/life balance. Listen, I was vitamin D deficient, in extreme pain all over my body, hair falling out (which caused me to go natural), nails brittle and breaking, cholesterol through the roof, iron low and border line diabetic, had a mild stroke at 37. I was a walking stroke, on my way out of here and had no clue. I gained over 40lbs in 90 days (from 130lbs to 178lbs). Constant brain fog, insomnia, migraines and mood swings. it was a terrible time. Praise God that I'm much better now but do still suffer from Insomnia from time to time, brittle nails and brain fog (of course from the lack of sleep). It's been 6 years and i'm finally losing some of the weight , vitamin D is good (still take supplements from time to time), iron is much higher but i have to take Thyroid meds for the remainder of my life. Ladies, take care of yourselves. Don't ignore the signs, go see your doctor.

When you have a symptom like feeling tired, its your body's way of telling you that there is something wrong and please can you fix it, especially when it goes on or you have additional symptoms.
I am not trying to scare anyone, but a friends mother who was a Judge died some years ago of Breast Cancer and all her symptoms were, was that she was feeling a bit tired. She died because she left it too late! I have a cousin 37 who was peeing funny, no other symptoms, Prostate cancer who is alive and well because it was caught very early! All I'm saying is , your symptom could either indicate something minor or serious.
I live in the UK and we have a free health system and stuff still happens. And yes I work in the Health service.
There are alot of natural hair sites available telling you about the miracle hair potion that will grow your hair 10 inches in a week! But if you are short in something, have a chronic disease or condition, or have hormonal problems etc nothing is going to grow your hair 10 inches a work and then what do you do, go on look on another site or complain when in reality, you maybe anaemic or it maybe more serious. Remember your body is a whole ecosystem, nothing works in isolation.

Jazmyne Treasvant I'm anemic too and my hair was falling out. Doctor explained that hair is like a plant it needs water sun and oxygen to survive without proper oxygen flow the plant will wither away at the roots and die. When you're anemic you're not getting enough oxygen flow to your body and your heart has to work about 3 tims harder to make sure you're getting adequate blood flow. So low iron means not enough hemoglobin for oxygen to bond with therefor not enough oxygen to circulate through your body including your hair

Fatumata Gumaneh I wonder if that's why my curls aren't as defined/retain moisture like it used to when I first went natural. I'm sure having high porous hair is part of the reason but probably not the full reason. Have you ever experienced this? Having extremely dry hair that is difficult to retain moisture?

Yes, you are correct. Most ppl don't know about the association between pain relievers and hair loss. I've suffered from migraines since the age of 13 and popped Advil and Aleve like candy during those dreadful times of migraines. I noticed my hair shedding from the root for years! I tried everything to remedy the issue. Then it hit me, it has to be the meds. I researched it and boom! Now, in order to keep my migraines at bay, I have cut back on my sodium, remain hydrated, eat sweets in moderation and meditate (wiggling my ears and raising my eyebrows allows my scalp to relax and not get so tight). In all honesty, I haven't seen much hair regrowth, but my shedding decrease instantly!!! Im hopeful that my thin spots will come back in but as for now, I'm happy. Anyone who frequently takes pain relievers should be careful. Try lifestyle and diet changes please. If all else fails, try natural cures. Be blessed.

Great information - My hair was doing fine, then I colored it last year and OMG! all hell broke out. My hair dried up, broke off, thinned out and everything. I was so freaking scared I cried to my husband. I am still having issue but it has grown some and thicken up. I am too scared to color it. I do believe my nutrition is off, I take meds for my blood pressure and my age definitely is effecting my hair and hair growth. Also 2 yrs ago I did the Master cleanse and I too seen a couple of parasite in the stool. I thought I was seeing things so I called my hubby in to look and he said it was not what I thought but girlfriend I knew I was not crazy and you just confirmed for me. Thank you so much for sharing your health issues. I wish I had known 3 years ago that vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause such havoc in ones life. I experienced all but 3 of the symptoms you mentioned. The foggy brain, loss of productivity because I couldn't think, the night sweats, inability to sleep, and memory loss were horrible!! But when all of these symptoms were followed by an anxiety attack that rendered me so incapable of continuing to drive myself home that I had to call a friend to come get me. I knew then I needed to get help. I thought I was suffering b/c I was pre-menopausal even though I was only 37 at the time!! After a blood & salvia test and nutrition panel test was done on me, I was told I had a severe deficiency in Vit C, D, all the Bs and was anemic. I didn't believe the doctor that I'd start feeling better once I started taking these supplements but within 2 weeks of taking my vitamins consistently, I was a NEW person. All the symptoms disappeared. I cried from relief!! Like you, I pray that sharing my story too will help someone suffering and struggling to figure out what is wrong. I found that I too had to go to a homeopathic doctor as they run more tests (like the salvia and nutrition panel blood test) than just the standard blood tests that regular M.D.'s do.

Hi Whitney! Thank you so much for this informative video! (And your other videos too!) I started wearing my hair natural a couple years go because I live in a dry climate, have had trouble growing my hair past my shoulders since I moved to my state 25 years ago, and because I wanted to be kinder to my hair. Taking care of natural hair is a bit more of an involved process but I'm happy I found your videos (can't wait to try your recipes!) and I'm enjoying learning how to appreciate how my hair truly is rather than "strong-arming" it into submission. I work in the alternative care field but, for some reason, didn't connect my hair issues to physical issues until now. I'm perimenopausal and have been dealing with some of the issues you mentioned. I was also talking with a friend about cleanses last week, including doing a parasite cleanse...you've just confirmed that a cleanse is in order. Thanks tons and thanks for sharing what you do! I first heard about candida albicans about 25 years ago from a chiropractor in California and not many people were aware that it existed and still don't to this day, it is not talked about by medical doctors and they are hush hush about it yet each time we are prescribed an antibiotic that yeast in our body grows, so as children are given that good tasting pink "amoxicillin" we are creating a problem within them and the same goes for us. We should all do a candida cleanse. I am happy that you have shared this and I hope your hundreds of thousands viewers quadruple and listen to this ever so important message. I love your videos they have been so much help to me. Love you! @Naptural85

I will say that when I went raw vegan back in 2007, it was the worst thing for me ever. I lasted nine months before I had to stop due to symptoms: hair loss, painful periods, horrible moods, etc. I was still in CA and eating this way was super easy for me so I was a "good girl" and was very strict with i. I eventually realized vegan (lack of clean animal protein) was not good for my body, no matter how much "vegan protein" I stuffed down my throat on a daily basis. When I added organic, natural, grass fed, wild animal protein, the symptoms went away. I realized that not all "good" diets are good for everyone. Paleo works best for me and my health, especially since I have autoimmune disorders. I've been gluten free since 2005 and I can't imagine going back. I take D3 on a daily basis too. I live in the Pacific NW and we don't get a lot of sun the majority of the year.
Keep up the good work, Whitney!

I had issues w/ being vegan too. For some reason my body feels so much better w/ lean meat. I want to go back to plant based, but I have a lot of research I need to do so I can be successful plant based.

+sweetiepie9411 I figure if it doesn't work for me, it doesn't work for me. I tried cutting back on meat recently again and it was a disaster, LOL! I lift heavy weights these days and my body needs animal protein to successfully renew itself. I cant eat dairy, soy, legumes and too many nuts are not good for my digestion. I just have to be mindful of where it comes from, how its sourced, etc.

Alexia It's just so hard because vegans won't accept this. I care about animals so it's hard for me.

+sweetiepie9411 I don't need the vegan cult to accept me. My health is first and foremost. Sourcing the right products can be a challenge though. The last thing I want to eat is something from inhumane factory. My husband was a farmer growing up and having that connection and knowing where your food comes from is very important. We (the general "we" as westerners) consume a great deal of imported products without much thought where they came from, who cultivated them and how the people are living. Bananas and other tropical fruit, sugar, cocoa, coffee, all have someone's blood on their hands at one point or another.

Alexia You're definitely 100% right and vegans fail to realize how unethical their diets truly are. I've told some of them time and time again. I also care about the environment so I wanna do my best and eat in a way that's sustainable, but it's hard. Like you said finding animal products sourced decently can be difficult. I'm also worried about seafood quality, since the oceans are polluted. Anywho, like you said I have to put my health first and that includes eating some animal products right now.

I have 100% of what you just described at the end of your video. Not 3 or 4,I HAVE THEM ALL!!! The fatigue is horrible, the brain fog as well. I have scabs in my head, my scalp itches no matter how much oil and moisture I use, constant headaches. I cannot eat at all when I wake up, usually takes me about 3-5hrs before I have an appetite. I don't sleep much or well which leaves me binging candy bars, cereal and ice cream because I'm bored and depressed that everyone is asleep but me. I just felt like I was alone and this was my life. I can't view my hair anymore past 1 inch. It just always breaks off, dry and brittle. Omgosh I can't believe you described everything I'm going through. What kind of doctor do I go to to get the "tests" you where talking about to check my vitamins ect?

Try a dermatologist who specialize in trichology. You should go to your doctors office and get a checkup ask them to test your blood and stress level. Ask for homeopathic remedies first and then some prescribed medicine to help with the diagnosis they give you. Try getting a psychologists to talk to it might help with your mood and most therapists are affordable or cost nothing based on your insurance so search and find one best for you. I know that was a lot of info but I hope it helps, get well & I'll be praying for you😊🙏🏾❤️

+Chels4hair I did it! It's candida!! I have leaky gut! I'm sorry, I'm in tears as I'm typing this to you.. I've been on the diet now for 5 days.. No sugar, dairy, yeast, bread, gluten, flour, rice and a host of other NO NO 's, I think I can eat air, yes, yes, air is ok! Lol... But, in 5 days, I have energy!! I got up, cleaned the kitchen, studied for 5hrs,took my dog for a 30 minutes walk and play.. That's just 5 days on this diet! I can even tell the difference in my morning breath. My tongue isn't coated. I'm just so thankful right now to this video and YOU!! Thank you so so much! God bless you both! It's been 15 yrs! Even my chronic illness that no doctor could figure out, this is why. I'm on the road to recovery!

I've watched your channel for years and I've never made a comment here. I'm glad you're ok but you had me worried at the beginning of the video. Thanks for sharing this I think I learned some things about myself here.

I don't know how I got so lucky to stumble upon this video but I really needed this today. I've always thought that it was normal and I would beat myself up for half of those symptoms that I knew I had but thought were normal. Thank you so much. Now a trip to the doctor is needed severely
