    Great video! This proves that natural hair is only as unmanageble as one makes it. I know a couple of girls that say that their natural hair is a lot of work but yet they can take up to 4 hours to install a weave. You provided a perfect example of natural haircare maintenance!

    I don't care if this video is like 10 months old , I have to comment. This is the most amazing thing I have ever tried. Not exaggerating at all! I tried this just this morning with my hair, and the coconut oil and conditioner made it sooo easy to detangle. My fingers and comb went right through! You've given me a lot of useful tips over my year of being natural but this has to be one of your best. Mine only took 15 minutes (because my hair is much shorter than yours) but it still worked! Thank you for this video

      I think it may have a lot to do with many of them being newly naturals, and also those who were always natural but just now learning how to care for their hair. So naturally, some people tend to make things more complicated than it is vs applying common sense. Hey, we live we learn. It's happens to us all one way or another.

  • @Naptural85
    @Naptural85  Před 10 lety +215

    @Meredith Thibodeaux Nope! It takes me 25 minute or less EVERY TIME I use this method! Keep in mind that I usually wear a twist out, which takes much less time to detangle, which is why I was rushing and nervous that I wouldn't finish in time. I usually don't wear wash and gos, so my hair is not usually this tangled. In a twist out I can finish it in 23 minutes, WITHOUT rushing, which is why I was certain it could be done on my tangled wash and go for this video! Give it a try, you'll see that this method really works and cuts down on your wash/detangle time! I'm sure you will be able to also finish in 25 mins or less

The longer the hair gets, the less time I want to spend detangling/washing it. As you retain more and more length, you just HAVE to come up with creative ways to keep the process short, so that it's not overwhelming. Wooo chile! LOL

      Hello Whitney! Oh don't I know it, coconut oil is shalalalala goodness! Usually my wash days are a 2-3 day process, deep condition "ALL DAY and ALLLL night on the 1st day, then wash and condition on the 2nd and sometimes I'll style on the 3rd day! 27 months ago I never thought I'd be marinating my hair...look at those MEGA BUNS! I "Saran Wrap" it up, I leak less...LESS OIL I mean, but great tip about the neck sock because an oily pillow is frowned upon in my bed! I need some knee highs! Man we be looking crazy with all this hair maintenance! Ugh, pesky shed hair, that's the worst thing for me while washing...girl you are going to town on your hair with that comb, lol! Recently I have done quick oil treatments and co-washes, I've taken my 3 day method down to one day because my hair has been acted up in the heat and I don't do frizz well, I will throw on "Megan"(Sunday Wig) in a quick minute!...now I've got to work on getting it down to 25 minutes but I believe you, if you can do it, I can too! Oh my goodness, WHO ALWAYS WANTS TO SEE HER SHED HAIRS...show yourself! This video was GREAT everything you've done I've been doing pretty similarly for the past few weeks minus the comb! I'm kinda too disciplined or strict with my hair, I'll only touch it, wash it, play in it, etc on certain days but I coming out of my hair shell and starting to listen to my hair! If it's Tuesday and she needs hit wit a bit of conditioner, I won't punish her till Thursday, I'll slap some on ASAP and help her out! Thanks for sharing another awesome video and I'll see ya over on the vlog! 2 in 1 today, YAY!

    Whitney,
    I've been procrastinating washing my hair for 3 WEEKS now because of how tangled my wash and go had become....I resorted to just tying it up in a bun..until I stumbled across this video. I jumped up and ran to Trader Joes to pick up the conditioner. Took me 30 mins (I'm sure i'll be faster during my next attempt..lol). I have NEVER washed my hair THIS QUICKLY! I hair feels super hydrated and my scalp feels awesome! I had less shedding and my shower wasn't as messy as it usually is after wash day. The crown of my hair has never felt so smooth! THANKS SO MUCH for this video!!! I can't wait to see how it dries and how quickly I'll be able to wash it next week! I will be sharing with all of my girlfriends!!!

    I adopted this wash method last year. It has worked wonders for me! so, when I took down my box braids yesterday after 8 weeks I immediately grabbed the coconut oil. The little dirt from the knots came right out along with the dead hair and minimal breakage. This was HUGE because usually braids can have the opposite effect if not detangled properly. Then, I applied the conditioner to my hair once I shed all the dead hair and slept in the mix like you suggested. usually when I do this method I leave the mix on for about 20 minutes before showering. however, the next day my hair felt awesome! I applied the shampoo before rinsing and it was so easy to manage! 45 minutes total to wash my hair after braids (next day after sleeping in mix). This method is definitely a lifesaver for people washing hair after a protective style they've had for awhile. lifesaver!!! Thanks so much!
    ***fyi, I'm currently living in Spain with minimal access to natural hair products. So I did this with my poo shampoo and crappy conditioner and it STILL worked! Never leaving home without coconut oil!***

    I wanted to thank you for creating this video. I cried the ugly cry after completing this video for the first time. I suffer from a thyroid condition that causes my hair to shed more than the average person. This method has cut the hair loss amount in half, if not more. I again but this method to the test after going to the beach. I had a head full of sand, tangles, windswept, and wave swept hair. I was simply awestruck at how easy it was to comb all of that out. I opted out of using a comb to minimize hair loss even further.

    I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I first watched this video because I have thick, long natural hair but unlike you, I am a 4c with very thick roots. I decided to give it a try today because I was this close to either texturizing it or cutting it. I am absolutely amazed with the results. I followed the directions for prepping (before wash), making sure to apply both the coconut oil and the conditioner very generously.
    I decided to detangle while rinsing out the oil and conditioner because my hair tends to tangle if I wash it without removing shed hairs first. Once my hair was detangled, I went back with the Pantene Co-Wash conditioner and did my roots very well and ran the comb through one more time. Then I rinsed and voila, my hair was clean,detangled with minimal shedding. I can't believe it! This is life changing for me. Thank you, thank thank you!

    I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial! I watch a LOT of hair videos and they usually don't offer much in the way of "news" but this is a bombshell. I've been natural for about 20 years and thought I knew it all about my hair. Nope! I just learned some stuff from you that has literally changed my life. Your conditioner on dry hair tip has made wash day a breeze! Detangling has never been so easy. I went from losing enough she'd hair to make a large baby doll wig (no joke) to losing so little that i couldn't even make a Barbie doll wig! This is truly life changing.
    I don't know WHAT I'm going to do with all of the hair I'm no longer shedding/pulling out. It's going to be super thick in no time. I've always had very thick hair, so I didn't give too much thought to the amount I was losing every week, but the process of detangling was just torture. Not only was it exhausting and time consuming (I once almost fainted in the shower from hunger, it took so long), but I just knew I was damaging my hair by wrestling with it. So much so that I only did it once a week. At best. Now, thanks to you, co-washing and detangling is a pleasure. I'm doing it twice a week now, just cuz...I CAN. My hair has never been so tangle free and happy. And clean! Now I can spend my time experimenting with new styles and products instead of struggling through that detangling crucible. Again, thank you, thank you!! Please keep it up!

    Thanks for this video, Naptural. I combined the principles of this video and your Most Defined Wash & Go video to wash and style my hair this morning. I started by saturating my hair in coconut oil, then shampooing, conditioning and then deep conditioning while finger detangljng. Then I detangled my hair with a Denman and used my styling products while in the shower.

    Helpful Addition: I put my coconut oil in a spray bottle to get more oil on my hair and make it less wasteful. It works great since the oil is liquid at room temperature. If it gets solid - like in the winter - just put the spray bottle in the sink with a little warm water. Thanks again.

      I know, it's genius! It saves time, energy, and hair! No wonder Whitney's ends are so healthy and length retention so amazing! All it really takes is a great penetrating oil and conditioner with amazing slip on your hair. Unfortunately tea tree tingle does not work for me. I have to use suave essentials. I also find that I like to finger detangle in the shower instead of use a comb like Whitney does. I only use a comb on damp, not soaking wet hair. Luckily the suave gives me so much slip that most of the shed hair and tangles come out with just my fingers.

    Whitney, all I can say is this worked wonders on my hair. It made me believe that my natural hair could be as beautiful as it was meant to be, my curls could maintain more definition, and moisture like it was meant too. The coconut and conditioner is where it all started because detangling for hours became a thing of the past after using this. I can't thank you enough my sister from another mother. Lol! Wish I could come see you in D.C. but I can't make it this time but I will keep my eye out for another event you may attend. Be blessed!

    I took down *the oldest* cornrows with extensions today. Did them on December 22nd. So much shed hair! And those braid base/clump/tangles! Yuck!
    After one hour and forty minutes of braid take down, I got out the coconut oil and a thick, slippery hair masque. This worked like a charm! 35 minutes! And that included letting the water warm up, washing, shaving and cleaning the shower when I was done.
    I let my hair air dry until damp, then layered on the oil and conditioner again. Going to sleep with a plastic cap and give my scalp another good scrubbing tomorrow.
    Thanks for everything, Whitney!!

Before, I would have to dedicated 2 days to my hair. One night before and 1 day after. Its not easy working full time and going to school full-time, so this is seriously a life and hair saver. • @Skillsgill

    Awwwww Whitney, your hair separates cleanly from the roots even in an old WnG!! Just love your hair!! My hair tangles and matts to badly at the roots, I couldn't even separate it to apply the product like you did. I fear that my hair would not detangle as easily from a WnG (especially a week old one) b/c I have so many different textures (5) and even though my hair is nowhere near as curly as yours, it tangles so badly because there is so much going on and also because I have fine strands that are almost straight at the name rubbing against fine coarse and 3c/4a curls at my brown ... the multiple textures and thicknesses just don't like to place nice. I have pre-pooed with a mix of coconut oil (Vatika really) and conditioner on the regular (with the overnight marination *lol*) and still took an hour to detangle ... and I think all of my hair would fit in one quarter of your head! LOL!! Oh well ..

    • @Miidi8787
      @Miidi8787 Před 10 lety +2

      Maybe you can try detangling after keeping the mix in overnight, like she suggested for those who aren't pressed for time.
      Also, just because she used 25 minutes doesn't mean you have to rush through it yourself. Feel free to take the time your hair needs.

      hi skillsgill, try adding shea moisture products to your hair regimen, if only for a brief period of time. also, grapeseed oil. Since i started using the she moisture raw shea butter line (gold label) and grapeseed oil (by itself or mixed with other light oils such as argan oil), i've notice an increase in softness, strength and rate of growth. The raw shea butter conditioner is really good, i put it on the ends of my twisted hair and then style the next day. Blessings.
