My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer this June and is currently dying. The way you love your parents, is the way I love mine. This has been incredibly heartbreaking to say the least.
I started a garden (inspired by you, of course) over a year ago. My landscape is lush and beautiful. My dad spent many hours in my yard talking about life and his love for his family. He was always impressed by all the things I built and grew. Your videos have peeled me off the floor many times and motivated me to continue working in my yard. Thank you for being a light during my darkest days 💜

Thanks, Laura, for the instructions for a fun project. I set up to do this project for me and my daughter with pine scented candles, hot buttered rums and Celtic music! So fun!
Tip for all of you out there who have very sappy cones like I do. I pick the cones up from our white pine tree (with gloves to protect hands from sap that hardly wants to come off!) I place them on cookie sheets with thick layers of newspaper under the cones and place them in the oven for a couple of hours at the lowest oven temp- 200 degrees in mine. After a few hours the sap has coated the pine cones like shellac and the excess has dripped off into the newspaper. The cones are sticky no more and beautiful with a rich, slightly shiny glow.

If you’re collecting pine ones, soak in a vinegar/water mixture for about 30 minutes to kill any bugs. Bake in the oven at 250 for about 30 minutes until they are open. Once cooled, place in plastic bag and shake to release all the seeds.

This will be a perfect project for us to do together during the holidays. I can prep everything, make it into a “kit” and it will be pure joy. I’ll sort our pine cones, and collect any additional cones needed. I will also precut the rope and wire, and make the bow. We will want to make two. One for my home, and one for her home. Showed this to my husband and he wanted to make one with me. We collected cedar greenery, holly, and pine cones from around our property in Florida! It came out great! Definitely couldn’t make the bow you did but we made it work 😍

I collect the white pine tree cones and spruce. I bake at 275° in oven for about 20 minutes on an aluminum foil cover cookie sheet.
Keep checking so you don’t burn them .
The pitch / sap heats up and makes a shiny hard coating
Easy to handle cones and all insects gone too.
    Best wishes from Westport Massachusetts

Great project I winter in FL and put a tropical twist to the swag by replacing pinecones with driftwood, shells and palm frones for foliage. I'm so happy with it!

Love this project. We have a yard full of pine trees, so the pinecones are over abundant at times. Might start recycling them into swags. Thanks Laura!

Beautiful! I'm going to do this as a project with our grandson who gathered all the pinecones in our yard :0) Just a note, my MIL taught me to turn the 'product', not the wire as you make bows and such, it makes it tighter toward the inside, and doesn't hurt your fingers as much! Try it!

Happy Saturday Garden Answer Friends! Ooohh. I love this swag idea Laura! I have watched your wreath tutorials in the past...your acorn wreaths...and Love them all! I am going to attempt this project for my mirror hanging in my living area.. I bought a Sprague of berry branches with white battery operated twinkle lights, I am going to incorporate into my homemade swag. I have a vision, thanks to you Laura! Can't wait to start this project.. First, I am going outside to pick up some long pine cones from our pine trees shedding their cones...Have a great day all!

They turned out just beautiful! I may have missed it, but what type of pine did you pick the cones from? I am a florist and we use a lot of cones but I rarely get to work with this "sturdy" of a variety. Thank you for always being so inspiring 💗

I think these came from the big blue spruce tree that tipped over in late summer. I remember her harvesting the ounce cones before they removed it.

That's beautiful. I love pine cones. I keep them on display in a bowl all year round. Glue on the tips and sprinkled with a lot of silver glitter.
