A good tip might be, that when you put the "lid" on it, you then top that with a piece of cardboard, before you tie it. And then glue the decor onto that piece of cardboard, so that if you just snip the strings, it lifts off, and can still be enjoyed, while you also avoid putting glue on the terracotta. Simply because, I know I would want to keep that little landscape intact, and maybe save it for next year.

Or a thin wood slice the approximate size of saucer for the woodland scene makes it a keepsake decoration for years to come.

I was thinking the same thing! It would be fun to go foraging with the kids to use for the decoration and make it a whole activity. It makes it more special when they’re involved in the process and see how fun it is to make something beautiful for someone.

I am going to a retirement party this afternoon and the retiree requested no gifts so I was taking just a card. AhHa!!! I had to stop in the middle of your video to forage my trees and back yard to decorate the outside of the envelope - a little bit of evergreen, crepe myrtle berries, vine, green/yellow euonymus leaves, hot glue and VOILA'!!! A pretty little living decoration on the corner of the envelope. Thank you so much for the inspiration!!
So adorable!!!! Like the idea of having two saucers. That way the person receiving the gift could keep the top saucer and use it every year as a decoration. I think if I got that as a gift I would keep the decorated saucer just the way it is and then get another saucer to put under the pot. What a great idea. So creative thanks for sharing.
Just an easy tip . I was a gift wrapper at Bullocks Westwood in LA while in college . They instructed us to lay the ribbon on the counter first , then place your gift on top and draw the string/ribbon up and center twist . So much more stable from the get go . 🎁💐🎁

Such f ond memories of Bullock's at the Holidays...their window displays,and riding the elevator to the restaurant for a special lunch...as a little girl, and then even later as a UCLA student in the early 80's...I still have a few silver Bullock's boxes that safely store Christmas ornaments from that era...

Laura, you are such an outside the box creative thinker...and I would even say innovative. I am amazed at how you put these three containers together. Thank you for sharing your heart for gardening and being an inspiration to all of us in our gardening journey. I love this idea and look forward to implementing it into gifts I give not just for the holiday but I can see this for anytime of the year. I know the receivers of these gifts will love them too!
I agree the hot glue would be super easy to pop all the decor off. You could also cut a piece of cardboard to fit on the top (but underneath the tied rope), and glue everything to that. The cardboard would be covered with all the pretty items, and then the gift recipient could just lift it off.
the cardboard is a great idea! that's why I like the double saucer one bc you can just pop it on any surface and you have a goregous decorative piece AND a saucer for the pot. I'd hate to ruin any of these, they're way too pretty :D
This is a great idea because you would still have the cute decor to display. Especially the one with the tree and deer.

These are beautiful! The lids can be used on table scapes and such after you remove them from the pots. I love it. What a beautiful and loving idea.

Wow, this idea is soooo beautiful and magical. My 6 yr old granddaughter and I build a large fairy garden in her yard, this would be such a perfect idea to gift her some more fairies. And my son could get a bunch of seeds for next year's veggie garden. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. You always do such amazing things.
* Laura mentioned that having a second pair of hands would help in tying the knots. Is Aaron around that he might help? I thought he was because sometimes the camera zooms in on different objects.
* Love the angles that the camera is shooting in the garden, overhead, on the side, etc. Between setting up the camera, editing and such, the Garden Answer team sure knows how to mix it up and make it interesting visually...and also in the content Laura shares!🤩

We are so used to your big garden, which is stunning... but it's also so beautiful to see everything on a smaller scale, too. Please never stop creating these small projects, you're so gifted and it's amazing to watch! It feels like something we can do/create.

You can definitely do this project with amaryllis by not planting the bulb beforehand. Just put the bare bulb in the pot and include a small plastic bag with potting soil in the space around the bulb….include any moss or stones as mulch. I’d also include simple potting instructions on a gift tag or on a sticker adhered to the bag of soil. Or, if you want to plant the bulb before giving it, I like the idea of putting another empty pot on top. Such fun ideas from you Laura. Thanks so much for jump starting my Christmas spirit.

Right out of the gate, Right from the start, or as I say here in the Midwest, Right from the get-go. After a ton of time listening to Laura say, right from the gate, I finally had to look it up. I am constantly mixing metaphors so, this is not meant to be a criticism. Since watching CZcams I have begun to be intrigued in our regional language usages. This has been helped by watching the CZcams channel, “Lost in the pond”.

I believe Laura actually has a turntable that she mentioned once and said she always forgets to use. Maybe she mentioned it when doing the salsa planting if tomato’s and peppers in an urn.

Hey quick tip. A gator clip, clothespin, or other small clip is great in place of a second pair of hands when securing your knot.

Wonderful gift idea. It is amazing what can be done with a glue gun and some imagination!
A basic formula for this type of decoration might be:
1. pretty base
2. glue down 2 or 3 main figures (ex. orange slices-cinnamon sticks-pine cone/tree-deer-moss)
3. add decorative elements
Very creative. Love using all the natural elements. I would put something on the top so that the saucer could be used or be sure to include an extra saucer on the bottom of each one.

I would definitely add an extra saucer. Those tops are beautiful on their own for decoration or under a glass cloche. Beautiful!
