GARY V is named as "Mr. Pure Energy", In 1984, my first time to see his concert up front and had a handshake while he was performing. 2nd time I saw him in Montreal, Canada in late 2000's for his concert and had the opportunity to have a photo with him and had his autographed CD album and watched his concert again...He's a very good performer, singer, dancer, good lyricist, composer and producer...His eldest son is a lead vocalist in a band and his youngest KIANA is a singer as well so as his wife(his former back up singer in his younger days). he's the first singer that I watched who sings and dance, he's full of energy...

To put it in generational context in the Philippine Music Industry, he is of the same league of older generation, contemporaries of Regine Velaquez. Speaking of which, Ogie Alcasid, husband of Regine went to the same school as Gary Valenciano and they were both members of the same HS singing group at that time called Kundirana.
Yes, Gary Valenciano is noted for his very soulful performances and does his choreography during his concerts. He is a well respected mentor and role model to many of the younger male vocalists. He is also noted for his ballad and gospel compositions.
Spain is a Chic Corea jazz fusion piece which later in the 80s the late Al Jarreau put lyrica to and performed. Gary V is Mr. Pure Energy some call the Michael Jackson of the Phillippines. Veteran singer, dancer, performer, songwriter, etc. He also does Christian, inspirational music. His song, Take Me Out of the Dark, the Live version in his home studio, is truly moving although you never see his face, just his silhouette in a dark studio. He also wrote the music of the song Could You Be Messiah for christian musical that he rearranged more recently for Morisette to sing. That performance by Morisette tugs at the heartstrings big time. Garry was once hailed as the Pinoy King of Pop his influence inspired a lot of artists for the past 3 generations even Pablo of SB19 said he is his idol.
He was given the Signature name as "Mr. PURE ENERGY" He used to sing and dance like Michael Jackson does and as energetic as Ppop or KPop but a solo artist.
Singing and dancing isn't even his biggest achievement.
He's a cancer survivor, beat a heart condition, battles diabetes his entire life, reached 60 years and is still doing shows, does cycling like he's 20 and still loving life.
Gary is a BEAST! One of his favorite musicians was the late great All Jarreau from whence this song comes from. Chic Corea wrote and later All Jarreau wrote lyrics for. Gary is astonishing! As if that weren't enough, he is an amazing dancer/performer. His *nickname* was Mr. Energy!

Gary is one of our living legends. Back then there were only a few Filipino artists who could "Scat". He can nail this live at a concert. Something you experience once in a lifetime. Gary is in his 40th year in the music industry and he does all of it from composing, producing, instrumentation singing, and dancing. you have to see him on stage dancing.

You might want to watch "Sa Yahweh ang Sayaw"(Live from Arise) on his youtube channel. He was playing the Kulintang, a native percussion in the intro. You'll also get to see his dance moves.
Then there's Take Me Out of the Dark (live and raw). Or my most fave song of his Could You Be Messiah, he even made a new arrangement of it for Morissette.

This is a cover of Chick Correa's Spain. Chick Correa was backed up by an orchestra on the instrumentation bridge wheras Gary did a vocal instrumentation. Not an easy feat as only a master could pull it off. Haven't seen a similar skill so far. One of a kind.

Gary is the King of Pop of the Philippines - the Michael Jackson of the Philippines.
He's the only "sing and dance" pop solo artist that the Philippines has really ever known. He's the OG.
But he's more than just that. He really is a legit musician. He writes his songs and his live vocals always literally sounds like a recording. He also does percussions.
He can still dance at his current age like the pure energy that he is. He actually did a tiktok of WYAT with SB19.
