    1) Everyone should have CB's to communicate
    2) Use a line dampener when you are winching, last thing you need is a D-Ring flying through your window on failure.
    3) Also recommend no booze on your 4x4 trips, all the clubs I have been in draw a hard line of no booze on trail rides.

    • @dean8067
      @dean8067 Před 7 lety +4

      Zachary Abelardo The SRT isn't much less capable than the normal Grand Cherokee. Apart from a weaker approach and departure angle thanks to it's aggressively styled bumpers. it has air suspension and in its Off-road settings can lift itself right about as high as the normal Game Cherokee. It has low range and all the off roading essential. Throw on some all terrain tires and it'll match this Cayenne perfectly. Not even mentioning the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that'll absolutely eat the Porsche

    • @dean8067
      @dean8067 Před 7 lety +7

      Zachary Abelardo And don't forget that you're comparing a most likely 10 year old Porsche with a brand new Grand Cherokee when it comes to the off roading. If you compare the most capable 2016 porsche Cayenne with the latest SRT, it'll be no match, the Cayenne won't even do a bad dirt road

    Good job! When it comes to hill climbs, and shallow slippery surfaces, you'll do well! The main problem is when you encounter anything that requires ground clearance, or wheel articulation.

    • @johannes.f.r.
      @johannes.f.r. Před 7 lety +1

      Davtopgun Yes, a Cayenne is usually all the car you need to get you pretty much anywhere, but if you want to go offroading for fun a Jeep is a better option, much cheaper and easier to prep and repair. But if you raise the suspension on the Cayenne too and gave it mud tires, like all those jeeps have, things are pretty much even, it has good approach and departure angles and the wheelbase is not too long.

    • @Davtopgun
      @Davtopgun Před 7 lety +2

      I agree that with some upgrades it could be more capable. Though independent suspension will never be even with solid axles when it comes to hard core off roading. Also, with independent suspension, you're very limited on how much ground clearance you can get while maintaining a reasonable alignment, and without binding your CV axles.

    • @johannes.f.r.
      @johannes.f.r. Před 7 lety

      Davtopgun Very true, plus you don't want expensive bodywork damage. These Cayennes are built to last though. I know someone who hardly used his on tarmac, mostly dirt roads, no real offroading, but it never had weird electronic failures or things besides normal shocks etc. wear out.

It is surprisingly capable car off-road and as guys said before me some models have locks and dual range transmission, so yeah, it can kick asses. One thing you`ve got to remember though- the air intakes on that engine are fairly low, so beware if going through serious water.

    • @linden5850
      @linden5850 Před 7 lety +7

      I cringed when I saw that!!! Winch cables are not meant to be used as snatch straps. The cable is meant for a static load to be slowly pulled by the winch motor. Those cables, even when used properly with some sort of cable weight in the middle for safety, still snap sometimes and are very dangerous. A strap on the other hand, is made to stretch and can be safely used to pull in that manner. It also isn't quite as dangerous if it snaps. Just make sure to not use straps with metal hooks or they can become dangerous projectiles in the event of a failure.

    • @eianwahgener7623
      @eianwahgener7623 Před 7 lety +5

      yeah i was like wtf.. why are you driving the porsche while using the winch.. obviously they don't know about offroad driving, at all. I dunno, i find it pretty reasonable a 490hp @ 5200 and 530ftlb @ 2750 can do most things off road with a dual range t-case... putting down 530ftlb with wheels spinning 10mph is damn useful in those situations.. and heck he just had BFG KO's... imagine if it had TSL's or something along that line.. I mean BFG KO is a great tire.. but it fails in slick mud and really loose dirt where a MT tire is really needed. Imagine if it was on maxxis tires...

      The winch has an engine that provides a ton of torque. You use the winch's engine to pull the vehicle and wind the cable back in. Using it to pull like a tow rope can bind up the cable and cause it to snap which can be deadly. A tow rope should have been used in this case, or the Porsche should have stayed stationary and let the winch do its job.

    • @BigChungusthe3rd

      We use our jeep for daily driving, snow, offroading, groceries, ski transportation, mountain bike transportation, everything and going to school and back. It even does great at passing or blocking Porsche SUV's on the highway cause they think they own the road. It's not just an off-road vehicle, its a vehicle that does what needs to be done and the Jeep excels at what its' supposed to do. Oh and the removable top is nice too...

  • @CurmudgeonExtraordinaire

    I had a 2004 Turbo Cayenne. It came with 22" rims with low profile tires, so it handled great on the street, but would have gotten stuck in anything other than a hard packed grass surface. Hit a pothole one night and busted out holes in two tires that were about the size of half dollar coin. Replaced all the tires and rims with the stock 18" ones to give me a bit more rubber to protect the rims.

      Torpedomtb A Jeep like that one is a real off road vehicle, while Porche SUVs are luxury cars with some off-road capabilities. However, Jeeps are very badly made cars, thanks, at least in part to the general inability of their parent company Chrysler to properly build cars. The only way they could be worse is if Chrysler was purchased by Fia.... oh wait...

    • @Torpedomtb
      @Torpedomtb Před 7 lety

      I am not questioning your comments. As anything that has broken on my jeep was due to cost cutting measures. Use of plastic parts vs metal ones. We own a Jeep Liberty and really that has been the only beef with it. It is quite capable offroad for as radical as I want to subject it to. We got it with the more capable 4x4 system comparable to the Wrangler 4x4 system. I could upgrade to air lockers and serious tires but it is my wife's daily and it has only seen offroad about 4 times in 10 years. So considering getting rid of it and getting a Suburu.

Instead all we got was some groomed trails with low approach angles. Almost any car could go through what they chose to test little disappointing. Next time make it challenging, have the Porsche cross the same mud bog the red Jeep was stuck in and see the results. Make it climb a set of rocks that actually require articulation not just a wheel lifting off the ground 2 inches. My wifes Armada with 2 wheel drive could make every single one of those obstacles easily.
