As experienced mat riders only have their mat inflated about 50% it is possible to duck dive a mat. Here is a description of the process from my blog magictowelride.blogspot.com.au/ where there’s a heap of info on matriding if you take the time to explore it. “A big squeeze and a bend of the corners downwards to concave the bottom of the mat as I drive under the whitewater before pushing the mat ahead of myself and up the other side of the wave. There was a time when this would just have seemed completely impossible.”

Thanks for pOsting that compilation. What's Freakin' Gas!!! How did you get the frames from so close. That intro score was Martian esque. Loved it.
Hey Paul! Are you still in Ventura region.

especially in offshore winds, look at the lack of wind resistance!

So what mat would I get if I were to buy one today you ask? Well I would probably get a G-mat 5 star general

Great clean ride at high speed, although I wouldn't use my surf mat in such big waves, how would one duck dive these with a mat ? Being caught inside with the mat is something I hate when waves start to have too much punch, hard to duck dive and no leash so you can't just let it go and dive.

You just hug the shit out of it. Death grip, bear hug. You get worked, but you come up really fast.

I'm 55 and love body bashing, but you need to respect the surfers additional skill and potential for danger at a place like this. I wouldn't go out on a mat, I would find another break or a beachie. But hey, that's just me.
