- There's a reason you've never heard of Millard Fillmore. He wasn't that good of a president. He was so mediocre that he pretty much killed off the Whig Party. But it's still worth learning a bit about him, so let's take a look!

When I was in fifth grade, everyone in the class had to do a presentation about a US President. We were drawing names out of a hat. I drew Millard Fillmore. My teacher felt sorry for me that I had drawn the least interesting president so he let me draw again. I drew again and got George Washington.
The fact that he was the last us president that wasn’t a democrat or republican is pretty interesting already

I don’t think he joined the know nothing party, I think the know nothing party just nominated him and he just kinda went along with it.
It did happen that way, and Filmore still lost
Fillmore devoted most of his time to civic activities. He aided Buffalo in becoming the third American city to have a permanent art gallery, with the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy
Fillmore did help preserve the union with the compromise of 1850. Even though it only delayed seccession by only a decade, it was better than nothing. Fillmore did help lure Japan into modernization with opening its doors to trading with Western Powers in 1852. I am surprised that you didn't mention that.
