- Indian Classical Music - A journey through Banaras Gharana in India.
Giving a break to the Varanasi street Food scene, I found a new calling.
While Visiting the Taj Hotel of Dal Mandi Street Food, I visited the house of Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan, the shehnai legend. Met his grandson, Nasir Abbas Bismillah, he hardly gets any concerts now. The condition of his family is extremely poor. The house is in a very bad condition, they seemed to be out of money and work. I have tried to bring forth their story. The story from the music city of India - Varanasi.
I also met the pied piper of Banaras, Manohar Lal Prasanna, a Bansuri master who lives in a 1 room house with poor amenities, his survival depends upon teaching music to students.
I was invited by the Banaras gharana classical music master for a better understanding of music and to my surprise his father, Pandit Shivnath Mishra, just received the Padmashree Award for his contribution in Sitar in Banaras Gharana.
We tasted the most incredible Street Food in Varanasi, where the lemon tea at Assi ghat was phenomenal.
This video is about the rise and fall of Indian Classical Music or Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet, music legends of Banaras.

I am 19 and I knew the basic system of indian classical music and like the songs better which made out of indian traditional instrument. But it is a very pitiable sight to see how poverty has killed the very thing that India is revered about globally, the culture, the art and all kinds of the traditional heritage it has. Mughals were negligent to knowledge but grateful to art, british killed both and whatever is left is still better than the world possess yet.

Your sad exposure of Khan Saheb Bismillakhan' house in Dana mandi,took me to my old memory lane,in 1962 to 1967 period when I used to go to this house in morning 6.00 and take cycle rickshaw to Kashi Vishwanath mandir,where khansaheb will play Bhairav when tample will open,then walk with hom in those by lanes to Ghat,and listen to Jaunpuri in morning,walk back to his house,spend many hours with him. Being Gujrati Jain,he would get puris and Sabri from brahmin freind of his,few streets away. He was a Saint. I m 78 years old. Please arrange to get some help to his family,may be by asking Yogi Adityanath. God hep them.

New plant fresh seeds. Their patrons are out of power. The darker is over. Now they are crying. Why? They enjoyed when the favors were flowing. They didnot give back to music. They prostituted their art. In darbars . Mujra kar rahe the in front of politicians. Not running music schools . Teaching youth. Making them appreciate their art. Why complain today. Shamak davor revolutionized dancing in India. He was not dancing for ministers, conferences. He was dancing for youth,public, loves of dance. Every child was joining his classes in India and uk,USA. That was his reach to masses. When you cater to classes,don't cry now. You are champagne that's out of budget of ordinary people. I have no sympathy for these maestros. They never did any charity. Never trained anyone free. They are leaving no legacy. When samak leaves, he will leave a legacy. Of dancers, choreographers, assistants,stars..he made others careers. It was Sadarang and Adarang in the court of Wajid Ali Shah who popularized khayal gayaki, but themselves were dhrupad singers. Amir Khusro is said to have introduced Eman , which is now called Raga Yaman. But the main credit of khayal goes to Sadarang and Adarang. Thank you for bringing the plight of the Indian classical musicians. Govt needs to protect these artists. Some good things of cbse syllabus is introduction of indian classical music as an elective subject in 10,11 and 12 . More needs to be done!

Wrestlers had to protest for months before supreme court ordered police to file FIR. It is taking time because government itself is delaying the procedure. Even delaying would be the wrong choice of word. You can literally say that they didn't even wanted to take action or conduct the investigation. If any woman alleged normal person like me or you for sexual abuse or sexual assault, then we both would have been in jail the next day. But here because it's bjp politician, they didn't took any action due to fear of losing his votebank. Because for bjp, politics comes before humanity. Look, how they didn't even arrested the Rapists and murderes of kuki women gangrape in Manipur. Modi didn't even opened his mouth for 77 days on Manipur violence & even when he opened his mouth, he did politics by taking names of congress ruled state like rajasthan. But irony is that congress government in rajashthan arrested those Rapists of dalit girl on same day of the crime unlike Manipur & those culprits belonged to ABVP which is a student organisation of RSS. It's also not the case that one girl put allegations on Brij Bhushan. There are multiple girls who are came out and alleged him of abuse. But still people want to defend the politician with criminal history rather than supporting those girl and pressurise the government for impartial and quick investigation. Upon that they're doing victim blaming and defending Brijbhushan.

My gurujie was the youngest brother of Lucknow's famous vocalist who was the teacher of some famous classical singers of Calcutta he,died of poverty and depression 😢. No body recognised his talents.But i hope time will come when younger generation will start learning it.
