    Mike Wahle loves Monk, he thinks he will be a starter in 1 or 2 years maybe sooner. At either C or RG. He can't understand why all these teams don't see it, he said he should've been a day two pick. That makes me think he was a steal, regardless of his consensus grade. They did trade up so Gutey obviously agreed with his assessment. If this class hits as much as last year, our defense will be nasty. I figure it might start off slow, new system and new back 7, but I have confidence it'll improve as the year goes on. I love the direction this team is going. They are all young leader types and Love has the perfect temperament to really stabilize this entire team. I haven't been this stoked since like 1995 or maybe 2014. Truth is I love this group of guys, I've never seen a team this young, fast and talented in my 45 years as a Packer fan. I have 100% faith in Love.

    Everyone worried about Lloyd’s fumble issues but if you think about it jones didn’t have much fumble but he would fumble in really important games several times . As long as we can keep his fumbles down in playoffs we should be fine

    If our head coach Matt Lafluer was concerned about this team’s screen game, the Packers did a lot to address that with the additions of Jordan Morgan (a great screen blocker) and Marshawn Lloyd (who is outstanding on the move). And our new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley should absolutely love Javon Bullard, because Javon Bullard can do everything. The 2 new safeties from the state of Oregon are also interesting, and I especially like Oregon State’s Kitan Oladapo as a player who can also get it done just about everywhere on the field. When you factor the outstanding addition of Xavier McKinney in free agency, there isn’t much Jeff Hafley won’t be able to do with his secondary. And Edgerrin Cooper was my LB1 in this 2024 NFL Draft Class, Edgerrin Cooper is a guided missile ready to deploy all over the field. Folks, the Joe Barry era is officially over! Michael Pratt gives the Packers a savvy backup quarterback, and the downfall of Kalen King continues to mystify- a couple of years ago, Kalen King was thought to be a 2nd-round draft pick. Overall, the Packers needed to create a new defensive identity, and that’s what they did here. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

    Honestly I just can't wait to see what our defense will be. On paper we should have one of the most dominant defenses in the league, that's on all 3 levels. Huge improvements on the line and run help, drafted amazing CB's along with having studs to help mold them. Finally the most exciting part our safeties....dude McKinney and Bullard are going to be the most deadly against EVERYTHING! those guys are absolute ball hawks and their football knowledge. The sky is the limit dude GPG!

    They will probably play 4-2-5 90% of the time. With Oladapo and Williams playing the 5th DB. Williams reminds me of Hyde so much, smart, savvy and always makes plays. Oladapo is like a huge S that played CB before, that's just rare. He plays downhill like Cooper. Bullard is a McKinney clone, he'll make plays all over the field. This back 7 is twice as athletic as last year and way more aggressive. These draft picks all are tough and smart with great instincs. They should all be perfect for the Salah type defense. I also think LVN will thrive in this defense in the Bosa role. Gary should also.

    • @sambrinn5606
      @sambrinn5606 Pƙed měsĂcem +1

      LVN is gonna be a superstar year 3. Some of the plays he made and the flashes of athletisim we saw last year can't be taught. He's only scratching the surface of his potential and if he can refine his game and continue to get stronger without losing speed, he is gonna be a handful. You can say whatever you want to say about Fields, but he is a strong, quick athletic QB that is hard to get a hand on and hard to take down. LVN was all over him and Fields never had a chance that last game. There was one play where LVN pushed the Bears LT 8 yards into the backfield and sacked Fields. After that game I was convinced that he has superstar written all over him. As long as he trains hard and stays away from injuries, he is gonna turn some heads this year with this new defense and a different swagger all together for our D getting Barry out and bringing an aggressive DC inđŸ’Ș

  • @Bastillon
    @Bastillon Pƙed měsĂcem +1

    Great breakdown. Nice to see someone smart grade this draft based on scheme fit and talent, not based on freaking consensus board.
    Some of my thoughts:
    - in general, if you look at the defensive picks there are a lot of blitzers: Cooper, Hopper, Williams and Bullard all have had a lot of success; my prediction is that Haf will use many of these guys together trying to disguise who is in coverage and who is rushing, that way magic word "interchangeability" makes a lot of sense; QBs won't know what the f is happening;
    - re: Bullard, his natural position is the nickle corner - he is undersized for a safety and his run defense may be better utilized if he's closer to the line of scrimmage; of course he will often drop at deep safety - that's the point of versatility and interchangeability, but I do agree with you that he will beat out Nixon as the number 1 slot CB; Nixon is still worth the money as an all-pro returner and backup corner;
    -re: Williams/Bullard interchangeability, I do see him as a year-1 starter at some point next year; Packers are very high on Williams because they believe in his ability to play in the slot and therefore being truly interchangeable with Bullard; with both of them in the game, Haf can use them in blitz, cover or run defense and nobody knows what is the defensive play call gonna be based on the personnel; I believe that is the reason the Packers traded for Williams - he is a great fit along with Bullard as both of them are able to play as slot corners and Gute favors this flexibility to put a safety in the slot;
    re: Williams draft position - during the senior bowl practices Williams was voted by his teammates from the national team as the best defensive specialist (ahead of Oladapo and Bishop to name a few) - the american team voted for Bullard so it was very fitting that the Packers decided to draft both, pair them up and just wreck havoc; Williams' draft stock rose a lot on NFL big boards - director of the senior bowl confirmed on twitter that there were several teams who wanted to draft Williams in the 4th round so the Packers had to trade up to get him; there is a reason he was much higher on the Packers board than Oladapo - the latter is not really a slot CB (though I agree that Oladapo is a steal)
    re: Hopper, I fully agree with your assessment, really seems like a Jayden Reed type of pick; Mizzou fans seemed to think that he wasn't fully healthy last year and also missed combine due to the injury; his production in 2022 was excellent, around almost 80 tackles, some good plays in coverage and almost 80 PFF grade despite not being used in an optimal way; also 2-time all-SEC team, the guy clearly can play and is not just a special teamer; also Hopper's true RAS is unknown to us as his stats are unofficial, there's a reason why the Packers brought him for a top-30 visit and Gute said that he ran 4.5s 40, they often bring in guys who didn't test at the combine for a top-30 visit; judging by the tape clearly an 8+ RAS, the only thing I'd worry about is agility score; explosiveness and speed is visible in abundance;
    re: Hopper/Cooper interchangeability, it's easy to notice that both our LBs are similar in many ways, first they have a similar body type around 6'2, 230 (the modern linebacker Fred Warner type), second they are both very versatile, third they are blitz specialists (both said during interviews that it's their favorite thing to do as a LB), pairing Hopper and Cooper really makes sense if you wanna disguise coverages and bring exotic blitz

    You can grade the process though. If you’re massively reaching against consensus values, like the Gutester likes to do, you can say that’s bad process. I’m not so worried about the Jordan Morgan pick, he wasn’t that much of a reach against consensus. I’m much more critical of the Hopper, Williams, Monk, and Glover picks that were huge massive reaches against consensus. And for two of those Gutey McGutester traded up so he can massively reach for someone no one else wants. It’s hard to see the logic in that, like lighting 6 picks on fire. However, I’m good with the Morgan, Cooper, Bullard, Lloyd, Oladapo, Pratt, and King picks and think we have some good stuff to look forward to.

    • @Basaraski
      @Basaraski  Pƙed 26 dny

      Consensus isn't a rule, and that's my point. The consensus board is a mix of a ton of website rankings all into one. Meaning i could literally make a board and it would be factored into that. That's not how NFL scouting works. Any fan, or at home "analyst" can make a board without watching a lick of film. So no, grading based off consensus is silly. These NFL teams have scouts that are paid more than 99% of people making these boards, and for a reason.

I get what he was saying about not being aggressive and getting a potential all pro CB the way the draft board fell but ot is what it is and Gute has been pretty good at his job lately. Great analysis of this draft and talking about the fit rather than talking about who we missed. On a side note, i was watching a video today and they were talking about the coaches for Oregon said the Packers should be doing cartwheels that they were able to draft Evan Williams. Praised everything you could imagine about a player and thought if he ended up at LB he would end up the best one in the draftđŸ’Ș💚đŸ’Ș

    It was a good draft in the books. Morgan could be a cornerstone for the franchise for many years. He just needs work on his technique. He'll probably be a swing tackle rotating up and down the lineup as a rookie.
    Cooper is going to be the starting Mike sooner than later. He's got great sideline to sideline speed and great agility. He and Walker will be the dynamic duo.
    Bullard is a dynamic nickel who can drop back into a deep look on any given play. He'll probably start at safety week 1. As the season progresses, he might rotate with the other safeties depending on the matchup. Although it's not beneficial to overly utilize dime coverage, the additional safeties on the roster will allow the Pack run some interesting packages.
    The Pack will probably have safety positions up for grabs in a few years. Williams and Oladapo will get the chance to develop into starters.
    Lloyd looks like a Packer. He's got great initial burst and change of direction speed but he lacks that gear to take it to the house. He's great for getting chunk yardage.
    I'm hyped for the season. GPG!

    I think the 3 year rule is down to two now with the exceptions being 1st and 2nd rounders. These teams are constantly looking for difference makers and will gamble on a rookie over a two-year player who plateaus. The Packers could easily run the Bears 1985 Buddy Ryan 46 defense. I had to do an after the draft first look at Hopper (new 3rd rnd. record for Gutie) and Williams. Hopper seems to me from what I watched has real good instincts, and if Williams isn't making the tackle he would have if someone else didn't. In other words, he's always around the ball. You always hear instant grades dont matter and thats true but someone is going to do content on it regardless and it is interesting to see what people thought about a franchises draft and to see how right or wrong they were. One thing you hit kn was fit for this draft for the Packers.Thats another flaw of instant grades. I dont care if the Panthers draft 4 players ranked top 10 in the first 2 rounds. If you have an inept owner meddling in their franchise and a revolvong door of coaches and quarterbacks, an A+ instant grade will look like a terrible afterthought 3 years later because the players were never coached up right and their franchise is run by an idiot like David Tepper. So cool analysis on the fit. That matters and the people giving instant grades almost always never factor that into the grade

Even some of the late o line guys might’ve “supposedly might’ve done undrafted”. Who knows, the only thing “us”, as fans have to go off of is the limited tape and all the mock draft simulators and sports journalists. I don't even need to watch the video to know that this guy gave an 'A' grade. I think that all of the 'talking heads' on CZcams for the Packers probably want a job in the Packers front office, so they wouldn't dare say anything bad. There were a lot of reaches in the Packers draft... several were projected as UDFAs, and there's no way Edgerrin Cooper is better than Payton Wilson. I believe, E. Cooper will eventually become an average starter, just as the NFL website is calling it... not a superstar. I'm giving the Packers draft a C+ because highlight videos don't tell the entire story.
