  • Haiti remains stuck in a state of anarchy with gangs controlling Port-au-Prince and a UN-backed international force still not on the ground. Is there any prospect of democratic control? And how much is Biden to blame of the civil disobedience. Amy Wilentz speaks to Freddy Gray on Spectator TV.

Exactly. Typical journalist view. As if gangs do not always have weapons, especially in places like Haiti. Maybe guns in hands of the decent, law-abiding men would help?

It’s getting old now that Haiti itself is NEVER to blame and always a victim. Same in Africa. At some point these people MUST take responsibility for their own country and actions. Almost every political figure in Haiti is either corrupt or worse.

The U.S State Department have been picking, selecting these corrupt leaders in Haiti for decades now. Through rigged election and meddling in their politics.
They picked the bad leaders because they can be blackmailed easily. Haiti's corrupted last Prime Minister for example was picked and supported by the U.S despite the objection of the majority of Haitians.
So yes, Haitians want to fail and succeed on their own, they want to take the blame for their failures and credit for their success, but the bigger powers like the Bureaucrats in DC and the U.N don't want them to. Why are they so deep in the politics of Haiti, a country who looks like a dumpster now? Ask Anthony Blinkin, ask Joe Biden

It is worth noting that the eastern part of the island is the Dominican Republic where the GDP per capita for 2021 was $8,400 against Haiti with $1,800. The DR has built a wall across the island to keep the Haitians out and are very quick to deport any that get through. Haiti has been unlucky but also very badly governed. The whole island suffered very badly from deforestation up until the 1980's when the DR started to address the issue but Haiti did not.

Amy open your doors and take care of some Haitians then since you are so exclusive with your feelings. In regards to your forgone conclusion, It's not that people don't care, its that people are already overloaded with VIOLENT CRIME and fear more. Do you live in a wealthy community where crime is low? I bet you do, not everyone has that luxury. Spare us the b.s.

Really this is the worst piece of leftist analysis I think I might have ever heard. First of all there is the contention that Americans don’t care about the Haitian people. I am sure that there are many Americans who care deeply about right and wrong. And then to blame the current situation on historic racism is laughable.

American memory is long when maintaining a grudge against a country or an Individual. Guantanamo prison and Cuba give poetic symbolism to this fact as does the despicable treatment of Manning & Assange.
