Man, I remember when this song was first released. If you've played since Warcraft 3, then that song has LAYERS. There was many things to complain about during Battle for Azeroth, but Jaina's storyline was extremely compelling and powerful. Hit me like a brick. Great cover.

Jainas storyline was the only reason that i played alliance for the first time since launch. everytime i hear this song i get goosebumps. I love Warcraft 3.

In a nutshell:
Jaina was a pacifist at heart. For her principles she left his racist and warmongering father to die.
Her island nation didn't welcome her home.
Oh. That's the one piece of WoW that I know and have repeatedly listened to.
And Malukah was one of the first artists I discovered on CZcams. Very much looking forward to this.

This song always makes me tear up, it's not just one of my favorite things that Blizzard has put out, it's also one of my personal favorite pieces of diegetic music... You can really picture this being sung, sad and slow, in a Kul Tiran tavern
Out of the 3 shorts for BFA, this was the best, and imo Blizz has yet to top it.

Really wish they had a bard inside ingame taverns singing it and maybe some other songs. Kind of ESO style.
I also love how the song had "evolved" originally is was a song about Jaina from her father (a child lullaby ) to a hunting song :)

As an avid Warcraft 3 player, I loved this song. Back when Warcraft had good storytelling, characters, and didnt try to kill off and recycle heroes left and right

Yeah this made my week, this was a total banger as usual, especially the high point at "to his nation, with his last breath, cried 'beware the Daughter of the Sea'" goosebumps just like the first time I listened to the Warbringers video.

What I'm understanding from the story within the song, is that the daughter of a prominent admiral had abandoned him. Whether or not that was in active battle I don't know. After this, the same admiral or someone close to the admiral crossed the seas with his ship/navy to find the daughter, who had gone rogue and joined the enemy (pirates, maybe?).
And even though she betrayed her nation, they still saw her with some pride. And over time, that daughter had become a significant figure among the enemy, where warnings began to spread about encountering her on the open seas.
It's the story of Warcraft 3, and the sidestory with the Heroes of Orgrimmar. Jaina Proudmoore was a close friend of Thrall's, seeing the orcs as a changed race. Her father, Thaelin Proudmoore was a veteran of the Orc's initial invasion and just saw them as green-skinned monsters better killed than let to live. When Thrall and the Horde brought vengeance to Theramore Isle, Jaina didn't intercede because of the crimes her father enacted amongst the Horde since he was full genocide-running.
The Admiral fought against the Horde in the Second War, the First saw the Human Kingdom of Stormwind sacked. As the Orcs moved northwards, the kingdom of Lordaeron met with five other Human nations (including Kul'tiras of which the Grand Admiral was the leader), the Dwarves, Gnomes, High Elves to create the Grand Alliance of Lordaeron, to defend the people from death. Grand Admiral Proudmore fought well and defended countless innocent live from the Horde, and was very much a changed man after the war, he, and most of the Alliance, never saw the war as ended. So, when he heard of his daughter mingling with orcs, he sailed to save her. She let him die.
The only Warcraft game I've ever played is Warcraft 3 and its expansion

Wow! I used to be a huge Malukah fan back in the day. First heard her Skyrim covers and was hooked. Eventually found Clamavi de Profundis and was hooked after Song of Kings. I was completely shocked and stoked to see this! Awesome crossover! 😇
