Not really. He simply refused to say "I am against gay marriage" by saying he believes in Catholicism view of the world. Thus, clearly he is against gay marriage. It's similar to someone saying "I'm not racism I just take the views of the KKK". He refuses to say the words because that will be used against him and drive away voters. And while I don't agree with his views, I would have much more respect for him if he openly said his views rather and dodge the question.

He has stated on numerous occasions that his ambitions in life are to be a good father to his children and husband to his wife, a good representative of his constituents in Somerset and a staunch defender of the freedoms and democracy of Parliament.
