Sicilian first. We have a long and distinct history, and have definitely not always been politically connected to the Italian Peninsula. And we definitely have more in common with Southern Italy than Northern Italy because of Greek colonization (Magna Grecia), but even then, we have distinctions from Southern Italy because we have that Phoenician/Carthaginian hostory and then the Islamic period with the Aghlabids, Fatimids, and Kalbids.
And the greatest general in Fatimid history was a Sicilian. He also rose to the rank of Grand Visier of the Fatimid Caliphate and helped found the city of Cairo.

You know you also have a Norman history ensuing the Islamic period? And you had Northern Italians settlements in the 13th century, at the time of emperor Frederick II? Those people were mostly from Lower Piedmont and Liguria, they were called Lombards (not to be confused with present-day Lombards from Lombardia though). The town of Corleone, for example, was repopulated by Lombards after the Saracens were forced to leave it. Sicily is a melting pot of cultures from many different places, Northern Italy and Northern Europe included, don't forget that when you mention history.

Siciliana with 6 black cats 🫣
My late grandmother ((extremely superstitious)) sent Mama🐈‍⬛ to me, out of nowhere, when I was crying in the backyard, at their home the hour my grandfather passed. She is solid black with the exception of a white heart-shaped locket on her neck.
The following day, that little kitten, showed up with her boyfriend 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛.
The pair are bonded + named after my grandparents.
They also had kittens, then one of their kittens, had kittens... Now, I have three generations of gatti that all act like
la mia famiglia siciliana. When you ask for signs from your deceased 🇮🇹 loved ones be careful what you wish for 🙃
