Thank you all for tuning in. What was your favorite part of this podcast?
Grease but Greece
Her. She's my favorite part.
Uzo vrs sambuca would’ve been a good one to ask. None the les Italian cuisine wayyyyyy better than Greek. We are more diverse
Mozzarella di buffalo 👌🏼 A1 only real ones know
My Greek grandpa who was born in 1912 would always say this phrase when talking about Italians
She is absolutely the best example of " una faccia una razza". If you did n't know, she'd surely be mistaken for a southern italian beauty. Bellissima .
hell nah
no lol
Probably not, they are clearly Americans as soon as they start talking.
I was talking about looks
not even close mate
It’s funny how Mediterranean people take pride in their olive oil. I’m Palestinian and we are passionate about our olives lol just like Greeks, Italians and Lebanese.
Who has the best vine leaf rolls 👀
Spaniards as well
LOL Italians are not only South Italians they are also Central and North Italians and i assure you in Central and North Italy we give a heck.
@@alessandrom7181 North ItalIans are Germans.
As a Greek living in Greece ,following and watching growing up italian podcast for a while(of course we all love italian-American cultoure!),i was smiling throughout the whole episode!! when Greeks and Italians are together its always a great time!
I wanted to correct a misconception. Greeks don't eat pita every day. It's for souvlaki and gyros sandwiches and in restaurants for dips. We eat bread that is very similar to the rest of Europe on a daily basis. And pizza is the Italian word for pita (I.e. flat bread). Finally, greeks eat more potatoes than italians but less rice and pasta.
Do you have thalassemia?
I have a lot of Greek friends a second family to me and Greek Easters were literally the best thing ever. One of the best memories I have
Greek high school in Astoria is Saint Demetrios. I graduated in 1990
Love the greeks! Dont forget the greeks were on sicliy before any roman
She's brilliant,love her personality
You guys need to go to Niko's Souvlaki in Astoria. My husband is the chef there (Dimitri)and makes traditional, handmade, Greek gyro!
The best holiday i ever had was in Athens. The food, the culture, the weather, the people.. if i could move there, I would.
She is correct we do need to have Italian language school for the kids either after school a few days a week or on Saturday. We need to learn our language and heritage
I have many Italian friends and I can definitely see lots of cultural similarities especially with Southern Italians!
By the way, the evil eye tradition doesn't come from Turks, it's the other way around basically! The whole theory about the evil eye, eye-distraction or the so called vaskania in Ancient Greek (βασκανία) comes from Ancient Greece! It comes from word φάσκω/βάσκω which means "to say" in modern Greek and it was referring to someone who slanders behind your back. This could also happen without any words being said, because the bad energy of the gaze can be emitted by someone, exclusively through his gaze, especially if he is blue-eyed. ;)
Πες τα γιατί θα μας τρελάνουν
My wife is Greek. They have a lot of positives, but the same with the una faccia una razza. Never heard my entire life until I met her family.
Nope, they are the same with South Italians, with Central and North Italy not even remotely-
Funny, Im Greek & I have only ever heard that from Italians 😂
The Greek is not the same as the Turkish coffee. The grounding in Turkish is fine but the Greek is not that fine grinded. Also we don't boil the coffee for as long as the Turkish. As long as it starts to rise we take it of, we never put it back on heat.
Thats true, also Greeks dont stare to drink, but wait for coffee to settle in the bottom
All coffee tastes like piss

Corfu where her father's family was from was ruled by The Venetian Empire for many years. There are quite a few people there and in the other Ionian islands that are descended from Venetians who moved there.

One of the best episodes!!!👏👏👏
Great episode. Is really fun to watch Christina talk about small details about the Greek culture.
Angelo tsarouchas ..is the funniest Greek comedian by far
Thank you for bringing Christina on your podcast she is fantastic great episode 🥂🇨🇦
Ms. Mavronas is Great 🇬🇷👌🏻
The Greek "Mati" has been in Greece since Antiquity, and even predates all of us!
The Ancient Greek Trireme Ships had an Eye on them to ward off bad luck & allow for calmer waters!
The Mati is literally mentioned dozens of times in Ancient Greek Sources.
Homie talking about Napoli, which was a Greek founded City called Neapoli.
New = New 🇬🇷
Poli = City 🇬🇷
Just a FEW words & dishes that Italians use & were initially inspired through the Greeks:
👇🏻
Pizza-----Pikte-Pitta-Pissa
Lasagna----Lasana
Macaroni---Makarono [Makaronia]
Pasta-----Pasto
Stromboli---Stroggili
Fagiolata----Fasolada
Diamante Citron-Diamanti Kitron
Azzimo-----Azymo [Bread]
Casseruela---Katsarola/Kuathos
Colluri (Sicily)--Koulouri
^^^^Of course, we don’t claim these dishes, but the OG origins in their most OG forms, must be said.
Italian Cuisine has also inspired Greek Cuisine as well 👌🏻
Loved this. She’s amazing
Her personality is to die for 🥰❤️
She is awesome!!! Fantastica !!!!
Greek classical antiquity and Roman Empire shared by Italians and Greeks is where una faca una ratsa is born from. The Mati comes from classical antiquity Greece so pre dates the ottomans. Christina has amazing energy..
Una razza una faccia 🇮🇹🇬🇷❣️
no razza no faccia ! It 🇮🇹=🧔🏻♂🧔🏻♂ 🇪🇺 👉Gr 🧔🏾🧔🏾= Tr 🧔🏾🧔🏾
No, una faccia una razza with South Italy , not with whole Italy. A Tuscan or a Lombard has nothing to do with a Greek.
@@alessandrom7181 This is true. Just like a Southern Italian has nothing to do with a Northern German-Italian. No?

I love watching this channel. I’m from NY, I’m also a first gen Italian and only really got to grow up Italian on my father’s side. What I hate the most, is when people ask what my accent is, or what am I, I always say Italian and they’d think I was bullshittin tf outta them. Yeah sure, I’m white as shit, but my sister, she’s Sicilian and that’s what most people think the standard Italian is, which it’s not.
heck yea. props to your kalamata mom. represent!
I love her!
I love her personality, you should have more cool people on like her.
The eye doesn't come from Turkey (lmao those came in the region way after), the eye was spread all around the middle east and the Mediterranean, it goes back to Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt and there are several mentions about it from the Ancient Greek Philosophers and it meant the same thing back then. Christine find the relative who told you that and slap him.
She’s hilarious I would have sworn she was Italian as well. She’s also gorgeous and talented. Big fan.
Best pod
I really liked this podcast. I didnt know her but she is really funny, intelligent and i like the fact that she is so near to her coltoure.
I can relate with her. For my parents it was always very important to bring the italian cultoure very near, so we are fluent in Italian.
Buuut .....one thing I HAVE TO SAY. We have a lot more dishes than only pasta. Pasta is of course a dish that you have almost every day but you have also antipasti or secondi that are not pasta dishes. Here some of them: peperonata, ciambotta, melanzane sott'olio, zucchine sott'olio, peperoni arrostiti, caponata, peperoni ripieni, melanzane ripiene, riso al forno, arancini, polpettone, scaloppine al limone, scaloppine al vino bianco, saltimbocca alla romana, polpette, polpettone, brasato, cosciotte di pollo e patate al forno, agnello al forno, baccalà fritto o in mille altri modi, frittura di pesce, calamari ripieni, cozze ripiene, riso patate e cozze, polenta in mille modi dal nord al sud....And im not done yet;-)

Mati has existed since ancient times
The Italians needed z Greek to get to the next level yet again
Ouzo should of been compared to Sambuca both aniseed flavour 👌
Yeah… many of the comparisons were a little off. Baklava should be compared to a pastry(like cannoli) not a cake/tiramisu. Ouzo should be compared to sambuca, frappe should be cold cappuccino ( not espresso) feta should be a good sharp semi soft cheese not compared to mild mozzarella.
I Guess when you’re brought up in America you’re taste is definitely a bit off 😮
Grappa vs Tspouro / RAKI
0:57 "comme ci comme ça" is French for so-so, meaning not good, not bad. Usually given in response to the question, how are you?
The Greek comme ci comme ca would be literally „etsi k‘etsi“. So and so. Etsi kai etsi.
Dolmandes are tremendous!
Great Show , you need more collabs together. It would be a hit.
Feta and watermelon, amazing. You can’t do that with mozzarella.
Halloumi (Greek Cypriot cheese made with sheep or goat milk) Greeks fry it up and call it saganaki but halloumi tastes even better

They were taling about Examples of names with meanings....The surname Balomenos translates to the fellow who wears patched trousers. Kontogiannis = Short John. Italians use the name Calogero, greeks use it as well but not as a given name, but in reference to, for example, monks, kalo = good, ghero = old, good old guy(s).
Yeah but do you also say Kologero as an insult, because in greece we do! Kolo = butt / Gero = old guy 😂

The only thing in common today Greece and Italy have
is the exodus of Albanian Arvanites ( called Arbëreshë in Sicily's Piana degli Albanesi) from Morea area ( today Peloponnese )
Albanians and Italians have more in common by a mile
Everyone in Albania speaks Italian. It's a huge community of Albanian in Italy as there is a very significant Italian community in Albania
Bear in mind that quiet big part of todays Italy was called Magna Graecia during Roman times. Southern Italy and Sicily were populated predominantly by Greek speaking people. The coast of Southern France, Catalonia (Spain) as well. This explains the many similarities in the culture of those places and todays Greece. Modern Greeks are not direct descendants of the antient Hellenic population obviously, but the culture is heavily influenced by the antient past of these lands. Somehow all Mediterranean nations have a cultural heritage from the Hellenic era and this is what makes them absolutely unique in its own specific way, people are very relaxed and they do appreciate more simple and harmonious with nature life. Greece is amazing, stunning nature and warm people. I strongly recommend it as a vacation destination, Greeks are very good hosts.
The closest thing we have from Ancient Greeks is Modern Greeks... on the other hand, modern Italians with Ancient Romans, mmm not so much... the Romans where annihilated by the Germanic tribes and Southern Italians genetically, are closer to Greeks than Northern Italians. Many gaps in Italian school books unfortunately.
Funny, this guys name is literally GREEK because a Byzantino bent over your invading turkic bulgar ancestor & literally Baptized you 🤣

DNA wise we of Southern Italian decent are closely related to Greeks but the Language is completely different, the religion is different. We are Latin and more similar to the Spanish in language and culture
That's true. Southern Italians also usually have varying amounts of Arab dna from N. Africa. I think Greek, Arab & Norman French r the most common dna that shows up with ppl like Sicilians for example. But culturally yeah where closest with other Euro Latin cultures. Even with Hispanics/Latinos we are pretty close culturally. Greeks did have a pretty heavy influence on southern italian culture tho no doubt.
Modern Greeks have Slavic blood. Southern Italians are closer to the ancient Greeks DNA wise
@@jake-qn3tl Greek islanders don't seem to have Slavic blood. Slavs are usually very pale skinned. Greek islanders from what I've seen either have Mediterranean or some Levanite dna and look like Lebanese or Israeli. Like Southern Italians Greek islanders can be very dark & ethnic looking
