Not only was it fun, but the plot tied together everything so well. Everything that was shown, as ridiculous as it seemed out of context, mattered in the end and payed off satisfyingly. So many good stories woven together to a full plot. You don't see that in movies anymore.

I had one problem: during the montage of the killers each doing something that led to Mrs white death's death I thought it was going to be revealed that Carver planned it all to kill White Death thought he was going to get out of the car at the end too and congratulate ladybug on doing his kill for him... Nope! They were all truly random and just so happened to culminate in Mrs. Whites death (except Carver) also why do you care about the contract killers? It's the people who hired them that are to blame them were just doing a job despite what this long wall of text might suggest I did really enjoy the movie
      Edit: it's Carver not Cleaver

@@boneybaron2508 The “randomness” of the different operators and killers that came in play and ultimately led to the White Death’s wife’s death, is presented under the fact that it’s Fate. @@boneybaron2508 Carver didn’t have a motive. All we know is that he’s the one behind the attack that ended up killing his wife, and that he ditched the job on the bullet train at the last minute. For all we know, it was just business, for him. Unless I missed a moment where it’s explained why Carver would want the White Death dead, it just puts him at the same level as all the other characters, except that he just happened not to go on the train, for some reason.

She picked Bullet Train because the trailer looked good and we had a great time. Probably my favorite joke was after Lady Bug and Hornet had their fight, and Lady Bug stops himself while lecturing Hornet "Oh god, I'm man-splaining again" then he just starts sounding more and more sarcastic the more he talks.

It was a funny subversion, since a lot of the time, that kind of backstory would hint at the character's importance, but no, here he's dead right out the gate, and even the important bit of his backstory had almost nothing to do with him. Made me laugh when I saw it.

Interesting you say that. As an East-European guy (Hungary) I caught many distinctly japanese, more specifically anime tropes there. Then again, I'm a casual animefan and not that deeply versed in your culture. I come out thinking this is how a Hollywood live action anime should be done, not the trainwrecks like Netflix's Death Note or Cowboy Bebop.
In a sense the movie's tone is the perfect fit for us western weeks IMHO.

      @@12kenbutsuri Yeah, I didn't catch that.
But there is that distinct empty feel of Hollywood killing the soul and quirks of a Japanese IP when 'adapting' it and I was very happy to not see any of that here.
Probably it helped that it wasn't a big name anime/manga and thus not some studio execs deciding to milk the IP with a complete mess, but instead a less world-renowned novel and genuine creators wanting to give their own spin to it and bringing it to global audiences.
Also the source material not being a visual medium helped to create the perfect storm to dodge the bullet of awkwardly referencing exact scenes that worked way better in animation/drawing and give the film that extra umpf of confidence and authenticity.

What you didn´t mention was that the music selection was pretty good imo. From the "Staying alive" openining where Ladybug walks towards Tokyo station to the awesome japanese rendition of "I need a hero" 3/4 of the movie in. Had a blast.
Dialog was witty for the most part and had me laugh a couple of times. The set ups and pay- off are satisfying for the most part. Like Tangerine telling Lemon he should wear his bullett prove west with Lemon dismissing it with "I could still be shot in the neck!". Still Lemon´s alife at the end of the movie because he wore the west while Tangerine got shot in the neck. The snake being important to the plot etc.
The ending was a little bit to goofy honestly but it didn´t take me out of the movie, the CGI could´ve been better honestly.
I also enjoyed that the let the people speak in their native language be it japanese or russian.

I hope to see your guys thoughts on the Idris Elba movie "Beast" that comes out tomorrow, I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't hear about this movie or see anything until a few days ago and saw the trailer the day before it's release and it looks really interesting, I don't go to the movies a lot like I used to, lucky if I go once a year which I did with Top Gun and this is making me want to go again.

And I don't just mean the character design. The outlandish but charming and believable in-universe fight-scenes also reminded me of the original animated Cowboy Bebop style

Just one point I'd like to make before I watch the video: "Femininity" is no more toxic than "masculinity" in and of itself. The toxicity comes either from feminism or just bad women using their outward feminine charm to appear nice while on the inside they are just the opposite.

    • @AnotherDuck
      @AnotherDuck Před rokem +1

Neither masculinity nor femininity are toxic in and of themselves. I think they become toxic when people try to assert them onto others, at the cost of others.

I totally thought it was gonna be Keanu Reeves - he even fit the look of the guy so I feel like that may have been who they originally wanted. But I'm sure he was too expensive or they woulda had to significantly scale back his screen time due to scheduling conflicts.

While it was let down by the dialog, the acting and cinematography were great, the settings and characters were great, and the plot...
The plot was clearly written by someone who actually knew what they were doing. I didn't know those people still existed
It's hard to make a holistic plot that actually gives everything a meaningful payoff and set-up. I really want to see if the writer of this has any other books
