    Just wanted to sat thank you! We followed your tutorial and it turned out better than we could have dreamed since we have zero experience with power tools lol. We wanted different bottom "cabinets" for a section of our kitchen. We live in a 1880 craftsman. Luckily we have all the original uppers that have beautiful cutouts in all the doors (there are two sets of doors, a big main door with the cutout and then right about it a smaller door with no cut out) we stripped and sand 100 years of paint from them to get them to their original glory, and my Lord was it worth it. I have seriously have never seen such beautiful wood. It isn't quatersawn, tiger stripe. It is solid, but super swirly and just beautiful. I have truly never seen anything like it before. Anyways we wanted bottom cabinetry that was something cool and not just run of the mill. Luckily we found this amazing 150/200 yr huge old cast iron sink that had the wooden 65 inch cabinet that was underneath it and literally made for it all those years ago in unbelievable condition. We were gobsmacked. Then even more so when we paid 500 bucks for the whole thing! I am hoping to do a tour of the kitchen/house when it's all done. We've actually lived here 15 years but raising 5 kids we never had the time. Now 3 are gone away to college. We also realized our house has increased in value about 10 fold from what we paid. So now feels like the right time to finally get the home we want to grow old, well older in haha.
    Well, sorry for the novel, I tend to ramble when I am excited. Again, thank you so very much. Just had to come back and find this video again and say so. Many blessings your way xo❤

    I'm a hobbyist woodworker so I build much of my own furniture. Ikea stuff is crap but you did make this look good. So now you have good looking crap and that is okay :)

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  Před 3 lety +1

      Sometimes ok is ok. Lol. It would be nice to make a full blow apothecary cabinet from scratch. But it would take much more time to make then it did for this one. And just the thought of making all those tiny drawers is exhausting. Lol. But some day I’ll make one!!

    I wish you would have stained the interiors that are visible. The drawers...

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  Před 3 lety

      happinin07 yes a little stain on the inside of the drawers would really finish the piece out

    Wouldn't a router have worked just as well for cutting grooves in the drawers fronts?

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes a router would work too. I would recommend making some kind of jig to help heel the cuts straight and repeatable. I used the table saw because the fence slows for straight repeatable cuts. Free-handing the counts with a router would be difficult.

    I love it, except the bottom part you made thicker doesn't suit it. It would have been nice if it was slightly less thick, or even curved nicely

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  Před 4 lety

      Nina Schmid thanks! Glad you liked it. Yeah it would be a lot of work to make all this small drawers.

    • @illbeyourstumbleine
      @illbeyourstumbleine Před 3 lety

      It's actually a lot more convenient to have larger drawers. We have a true one of these with 60 drawers and we made this amazing one in the tutorial for our kitchen hoping it would be a place we could actually store things larger than a spice jar! The smaller one are cool in theory, but in practice they truly aren't very useful unless you have a particular set of demands for so many small drawers. I mostly use mine for my arts and crafts supplies. It does come in handy there, but again, unless you have a career or hobby with a lot of small different pieces that need to stay separated you might find yourself with 60+ junk drawers!

    • @NS-rk9sm
      @NS-rk9sm Před 3 lety

      @@illbeyourstumbleine I get your point, but I was looking for something like this and was kinda let down because I need many drawers. As a designer things need their own little space and a cabinet like this would've been perfect with the right drawers.

    why not just make a real one.... it's steampunk with no practicality of its steampunkiness = non-steampunk. I'm glad you're happy with it, but these un-authentic items just makes me sad and nostalgic for a time when craftsmanship was akin to an inherent virtue that someone possesses, and to produce this kind of thing would be a dishonour to their family and they'd need to donate a finger to the head of the family for such an offence. Ah, they were the days.

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  Před 2 lety

      The reason I didn’t make a real one was that it would take months and months. I don’t disagree that a real one would be a piece that would be handed down for generations in a family. But this also accomplishes the same look with arguably more functional Drawers. You can fit way more things in a dresser drawer then in a bunch of tiny drawers. I’m sorry my craftsmanship makes you sad and that I have brought dishonor to my either family. Guess you can have my finger. ☝🏼
