      I can't imagine paying that much for dynamic driver headphones.
      You will literally get better sound from the cheaper HD 599 or even the HD 560S. xD
      I'm so sorry you wasted your money. :(
      When you get that high up in pricerange, it's literally better to look at planar magnetic headphones. : /
      Dynamics are the masters of budget headphones, planar magnetics are the masters of consumer-grade sound quality... Electrostatics are the masters of sound, just, supreme superiority in sound, but they are the most expensive headphones in existence, lol. XD
      So basically, anything surpassing 200 dollars, is planar magnetic territory, if you want to use your money wisely...

    Really liked your review. You brought something else to this comparison. done by many but yours was really enjoyable to hear. I have the HD650 and really like the added bass response. I know this muddies up the midrange a little and there is not as much definition (the vocal can be a little affected in some places) but there is still plenty there and I love that added warmth and bass impact with what seems like no real cost. I would love to hear your HD650 vs Sundara comparison if such a comparison is worth doing. Thanks for doing this video. I am now +1 sub!

      So I've never listened to the g6 nor the EVO 4, but it seems like the EVO 4 focuses a lot on recording quality. Unless you're doing professional instrument recording or voiceover, I don't find it necessary.
      The g6 seems to be geared a bit more towards portability. That said, both of those are cheaper than the Hel. So there you go: Hel for quality assurance, g6 for portability, and EVO 4 for professional recordings.

    I’ve had the Sundara, Ananda, and HD 600, and the HIFIMANs both are made for larger heads than mine, especially the Anandas, which could use the nuggets on the headband. I found the 600’s to have more body in the sound but kind of smooth out the highs, where the Sundaras are less thick in the midbass and mids but have a crisper treble which adds to separation and detail; I notice left/right panning and backup rhythm instrumentation more on the Sundara; those little “chuka chuka” guitar embellishments I’ve never heard before on the HD 600s reveal themselves. I don’t consider IMO a matter of getting more/less of the same qualities when comparing the Sundara and Ananda - I think they sound different from one another.

    I find in the gra d scheme of headphones, these two out of a decent source are actually quite similar overall.. there's like 2dB more in the mids from 1-3khz in the 600, few less in the high treble and the subbass. The drivers in the Sundara do have more technical superiority for distortion and stuff and you can tell especially in the bass where dynamics have the most distortion. The Sundaras sound like a very good older studio monitor, whereas the Sundara has something extra filled out on either end, a touch less mids, but with that AMT1 kind of detail. Both were very good and if you gave it a day between them and just listened to music, you'd probably find both just as enjoyable. I use the 600 for general use and Sundara for more critical listening. Both are neutral in tuning. Sundara is actually really close to the HE-1 tuning but without the bass extension/lift, and of course it can't come close to the electrostatic detail and general refinement.

    I personally like the shape of the Sennheiser ear cups but as far as comfort .. I guess if you like a vice they're fantastic. The foam with the Sennheiser is mediocre at best. I had to do the hack where you extend the sennheiser's all the way out and physically bend them out with your thumbs. The Sundara's look more cushy, but I'm not a huge fan of a circle considering my ears aren't circles. Also, I prefer 100% velour for breathing. However, I heard that the Sundara's sound a lot better on tube amps so it's the exact opposite of what you're saying.

    The problem with the HiFiman headphone line is that they are hit and miss when it comes to quality control. They are ALL made in China versus the HD 600/650/660S/800S lines are all built in Sennheisers state if the art plant in Ireland. I’ve been using Sennheisers for 43 years and they were then, and still are, the best headphones you can buy for your money in my opinion. I’ve had many different models through the years and currently own HD600 and HD650 and am soon going to buy the best of all, HD800S. Audeze also make some great cans but in terms of comfort and more natural sound presentation I’d take the Sennheisers hands down. I’m not a fan of Focal speakers or headphones either. Grado headphones are interesting, but they are brighter sounding which makes them fatiguing to listen to for longer listening sessions. AKG and Beyer Dynamic headphones are not my cup of tea either. Stay headphones are very impressive though, but quite difficult to drive properly. I worked in the ahi end Audio/Video market for 10 years so I’ve had the opportunity to listen to many different headphones. In the end though, you have to trust YOUR ears and go with whatever suites your fancy.

I don't think is best bang for buck but used you can grab for somewhere around 700-800 USD. I did my luck and "steal" them for ~ 540 USD. You will not hear treble peaks, sibilants like on Arya or Ananda. My road for best neutral sounding headphones as an upgrade for HD6 series is end now. More concerning on DAC because HEX v2 are so easy to drive.

      @@ooooswain sound is different that's for sure. For comfort the Sennheisers are kings. While a bit heavier than the hd598, the hd6xx remain super light and comfortable. I find the sundara headband to be a bit wide. It helps distribute the weight but it also gets hot / itchy. Not too much of a problem. Also, I prefer the Sennheiser oval cup to the hifiman round ones. It does however, affect the sound signature and some manufacturers prefer one to the other. I can live with that. Though not as comfortable for me, I have worn the sundaras for hours and have not felt pain or anything like that. They just don't "disappear" like the Sennheisers do.
      As far as sound is concerned I do prefer the sundaras. Instrument separation is superior and clarity is a win. There is more detail, good bass while not being analytical. You do need a good amp/dac for it to shine. I tried them straight from my Macbook pro when first purchasing them and did not like the sound. At home when listening from my full setup it wins on the hd6xx. I used the hd6xx for years and loved them. I hope to say the same things of the the sundara as well in a few years. Overall this is just fun. They are both great for listening to the music you love. Happy listening!

      @chuckolatte600  Před 3 lety

      @astroman269 Před 3 lety

      After a couple of weeks of wearing the Sundara it has become more and more comfortable. I do feel like the HD6xx is still more comfortable overall but this is nitpicking. No issues whatsoever with the Sundara now. The problem with the usual 'comfort' evaluation out of the box is that it does not give a good representation of what it will be like after actual use. Manufacturers don't design this to be perfect out of the box but to be comfortable and reliable long term.

    there are exactly 2 reasons i hesitate to buy the Sundara.
    The phones don't turn to adjust to the angle of the head like most sennheiser's do.
    They're perfectly circular and therefore don't fit all ear types.
    My ears are on the bigger side, but more importantly, the tips or edges of my ears are unfolded (bit of a genetic deformity), so if headphones do not have enough ear space, i will experience incredible pain on the very tips of my ears after a few hours wearing them due to excessive friction.
