Anarchychess is really happy rn
Google en passant
Holy hell
Love some nook nishop play fs
Many Pipis going up
Or mad cause the design of the knook is wrong
I don't think I've ever seen Eric miss this many pieces that were just hanging with absolutely no defenders, both his opponent's and his own.
LOL I WAS SCREAMING
I only saw one elephant hanging, where else?
8:00 and behond is a nightmare. 8:40 he can knishop the knook on b7. Then at 8:50 he can knook takes queen on g4 😅
3-minute time control is pretty rough for learning a new variant, realistically having it be 5 or 10 minutes would be better to understand things. Makes it pretty entertaining though.
at 13:03 opponent could of knook to e4, forking king and bishop
Finally they added the knook and the knishop
Can't wait for them to add the birook as well. Imagine a piece that can move on rows, files and diagonals, that would be overpowered
bight and rooght
@@gnochhuos645 You just described a rooshop, which already exists
@@mikeaft3585 won't the rooshop basically be another queen?
@@chessquest64 ya thats the joke
Now Eric knows again what it feels like to be a 800 elo player (struggling with calculations, with how pieces move, with hanging pieces) :D
Wait 800 elo players do that? I'm 600 and I completely understand how pieces move...
@@OfficialSuperMKG You think you do but if you play bullet you hang half your stuff because you in reality don't and you need to spend time thinking about it
He definitely already knew the feeling. We've all been beginners at some point
@Super MKGaming if you understand so well how pieces move how are you 500 elo? He does not mean it literally, he means how to take advantage of the pieces' moves
@@eftihiosmitsialis449 i am too 500 and understand completely because i studied chess over the board, and i am still 500 because i play one game per day because i couldn't care less about rating
knight-bishop seems like a paladin to me
edit: crusader works as well
Actually a really good name. Imma use that.
fake news, the horse is clearly mounted on the bishop not the other way around
It looks like a severed horse with its esophagus and windpipe hanging out.
@@foobargorch call it Kenneth Pinyan then
@@Jay-629 oh dear... TIL
the elephant and the hawk add such new dynamics to the game
Great update!!
hawk on dee- just kidding lol
Lichess is better
Here's my idea: crazyhouse Seirawan 960 with a duck
I need a Fairy Chess engine
13:00 opponent missed Knook to e4.
Look, I saw Knook e4, I just didn't like it
Hard move to find, great job
Other players: Damn, these new pieces are tricky to remember how they move
Eric: Damn, these new pieces are tricky to remember how they're named
I think they should rename the queen to "book", to be consistent with the new pieces
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"
Then every queen move would be a "book move"
Also add Ring and Bing
@@not2tired and Rawn or Pook
rooshop
I watched your 185 moves match just before and when you talked about your queen not being able to "move like that", it made me think about the hawk, and here you are playing with it.
If you're an experienced chess player who intends to teach a beginner, I think it's a great idea to play some of these "weird-pieces chess". It gives you an appreciation of just how much mental energy it takes for a beginner even just to register that a move is possible. Maybe it will help you pace your teaching better.
As usual, Ben Finegold puts it best: (and I'm summarising here)
> I'm not a fan of Dvoretsky per-se... The reason people aren't good are very simple reasons... I play there winning their Queen and they're like what? It's not because of what Dvoretsky says, "look at this 700-move combination where you're slightly better" that doesn't matter... They can't see one move ahead; they don't know when they're in check; they don't know whose move it is. That's the kind of chess book you should write, like "Whose turn is it?", "How many legal moves do you have?" That's how you get better at chess.
Harsh but true.
I’m dying there is a point where both players hang pieces over and over. Eric leaves a free queen up because I think he thought an elephant was a hawk.
Is black's queen just completely hanging at 8:50? Or is there some tactic or something I'm missing?
noticed that too
Queen was hanging and enemy's elephant was hanging for a while before that aswell
nah its hanging
Pretty sure the knook was hanging at 8:40 and 8:45 too
6:00 if he had done Kxf6 he had a royal fork checking the king with the night and a discovered attack on the queen
edit: 8:50 the queen was unprotected
Petition to officially change the knight's name to horse
Chess originated in India and the real names of pieces were indeed Knight = Horse, Bishop = Camel, Rook = Elephant.. They were meant to represent Horse mounted, Camel mounted and Elephant mounted soldiers.
A lot of Indians don't even know what Bishop even means.. It's some position in Church from what I understand.
@@bajiraosingham9495 mujhko bhi nhi pta tha bishop ka Matlab 🙂👍
@@bajiraosingham9495 Rook is elephant? It's funny, because bishop called elephant in Russian, Ukrainian (there are variants, but it's main word), probably somewhere else more
And yeah horse is horse in many languages
Horsey 🐴
in german the knight is "officially" called the "jumper", but afaik pretty much everyone calls it horse
(yes, jumper is a hilarious name. and yes, we also call the bishop the "runner")
8:50 missed free queen or am I missing something?
Nice, but now we need Seirawan Duck chess
Why not Fischer random Seirawan duck chess
@@hungrycrab3297 nah seems like a boring variant
Would love more of this. This is so cool
If you want to go deep into the rabbit hole of variants and new pieces, I highly suggest checking out ChessCraft. It's a computer game with a whole array of unique pieces and rules, and even lets you make your own concepts
It's also a mobile game
Yeah is a good game, besides you can make pieces win a interesting skills. Atack without move, casting, enemy piece neart you can't move, be uncapturable etc.
Your moves can pass enemy pieces (jump like Knight but in diagonal or files, move like Quuen But backwards move like Knight, etc.
They should have been made to look like a hawk and elephant too lol
Capablanca invented a chess variant with the same special pieces, but they start on the board already which is expanded to 80 squares.
In my opinion, the queen is still generally the best piece followed by the hawk and then the elephant. The hawk being able to mate a king in the corner with no assistance is actually crazy, but I think still not enough to make it better than a queen. Unless Yasser says differently.
Idk what Yasser says about it, but hear me out here:
Indeed, being able to mate unassisted is crazy, but the Hawk lacks the ability to force the King into a corner the way a Rook could
So it's gonna be weaker in endgame for the same reason that mating with a Bishop and Knight is tricky
I could be way off here, but that's my guess
Why is a hawk better than an elephant? If you remove the knight movements it's just a bishop vs a rook. I do understand that the bishop no longer has the single color weakness, but there's no way that would make it _that_ much more powerful.
I'm sorry, but I find your opinion objectively wrong.
I remember one called chancellor if I'm right
Thank you for inspiring me to play chess once more
Love watching you play your style in meme variants
Chesscom: "The name of these pieces have to be SIMPLE, for fast learning"
Eric: *"Let's choice the most difficult name for these while I check mate him"*
13:00 OPPONENT HAD A FORK! (King and Bishop)
wow i love these pieces, attacks are so satisfying, please more of this!!
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"?
8:44 the opponent hung their Knook and Rosen could’ve taken with his Kishop
Yasser has an in depth video (I believe on the chessbrah channel) explaining some of his schess theory. In it, he talks about the relative value of the hawk and elephant. If my memory is correct, I believe he argues the hawk is slightly weaker than the queen or worth roughly 7 pawns, whereas the elephant is just has strong, if not stronger, than the queen, roughly worth 9-10 pawns
At 5:50 doesnt Knight f6 just win the Queen? Eric says his knook would see the Queen but It is check and besides it is defended
he wanted to keep the knook
You win the queen for your knook. The question is how much you won with that trade. I would argue the knook is almost the same value as the queen if not even more. Im more confused about 8:50. Did eric just didnt see the free queen or is it defended with some insane tactic im unable to see?
@@marxmags6189 mm yeah that may be it. For 8:50 I think he just didnt see it because of short time and the fact that it is a new piece he isnt used to, I certainly don't see any tactic
He would have also lost his Queen if black take Knight with his bishop, threatening Whites Queen in the process. Overall, I think white actually would lose the trade
@@colinb8332 Mmm after Knight takes, bishop takes, knook takes queen, whatever black does the pawn in e5 hangs in the end, and I don't think white's queen is ever hanging right?
16:27 I analysed this position with my engine, the best continuation it suggested was Ne5+ Exe5 Hxe5+ eventually winning the bishop and both rooks as well (so checkmate would only be a matter of time, but it didn't find a concrete mating line)
I need more of this
I want Eric to play more of these variants. It's insane! ;-)
14:59 Eric has played too much duck chess
Congratulations on finding these variations.
Brainking has a whole site of variations.
Since there are many variations using these two pieces, they are often called the Archbishop and the Chancellor, though I prefer Marshall as in Grand Chess the Archbishop is called the Cardinal and the confusion of different pieces sharing the C is confusing
i wanna see that xxl chess as well. looks insane
it does seem like you can make some insane sacs to get a good attack going once your pieces are activated
At 12:57 black could have played Ee4+ forking the bishop and king
I was literally thinking about this idea earlier today
Capablanca invented the chancellor and arch bishop long before Seirawan did...
The Elephant. I didn't understand it at first. Cause that's the name of the Bishop in Russia. So witty.
That hanging rook at 8:30 (move 34 shouldn't have been a check, methinks).
"also known as a knook"
HE SAID THE THING
12:47 It wins a pawn.
The last time I checked, a rook and a bishop do not have the same value.
hearing eric say oh no my knook was all worth it
Oh, no, my brook! Oh, no, my rishop!
I remember this as Full Moon Chess
I love Seirawan chess
"The elephant combines a rook and a knight."
What ever happened to the Chancellor?
In move 36, 8:41 you had a crazy elephant to f6+ and its forking the blakc elephant so he takes and than you take with your hawk to fork the queen and the king winning a queen at the end of the trade
Shorting it all the moves are
Elephant f6+, Elephant x f6
Hawk x f6+, Kh7(fored)
Hawk x d6.
8:41 missed a free knock & fork queen & Rock
That would've been Epic
More!!
glad chess finally released an update after 15 centuries new features look good but I hope they patch the en passant soon
Finally... The chess update! I was waiting for 4... no, for 5000 years!
Chess finally got updated
LET'S GOOO FINALLY SOMEONE PLAYING SEIRAWAN CHESS
The R/N combo is also known as the chancellor or empress, and the B/N combo as the princess, cardinal or archbishop.
I won't stand for this knook erasure that's the best name for that fairy chess piece
@@Ichiban901 Knook would fit for knight/rook hunter, since in Betza Chess knight/bishop hunter is named Knishop
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"
after all these years chess finally got an update
Hawks are better than knight+bishop because the two moves complement each other weakness nicely.
1:52
If that bishop was moved instead to g5, it would be attacking black's queen. She'd have nowhere to go, and if she captures the bishop, the knight can take.
HE MISSED OUT ON A FREE QUEEN TAKE!
hey eric, have you played 5d chess yet? fun varient. very difficult tho, would love to see you struggle trying to understand it.
Looks like archbishop and chancellor
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"
There is also a variant where a triple combination piece exists, basically a Queen x Knight, I think it's called amazon.
Worth 12 points and can easily checkmate on its own
nah that's just a Kneen
wait until you see knook, look, nlook, antiqueen, and masked pawn
Chess got an update let's go.
Bishop used to be elephant and would only travel two squares at a time diagonally. In fact it's not a bishop hat it's elephants trunk.
It's still called elephant in turkish
all fun and games but what about a combination of rook and bishop?
I have an idea for a new chess piece. The Princess. She would move in all the directions that a Queen can expect that princess could only move a max of 4 spaces at a time.
New chess piece dropped. Let's go.
I'm rusty at chess but I swear sitting here casually I am playing his moves and calculating it way before him. Feels so strange.
What about chess where the pieces have hitpoints and attack damage? The pawns attack forward, and each turn you can attack with any piece that has an attack.
Or something along those lines anyway.
Might be able to work?
-Like Hitpoint Chess 1 by FM Ralph Betza?-
Is there any way to play the Amazon? The tactics would insane 😅
8:50 that blunders a queen, you could take it with the knight-rook
Next video: Serawian Duck Chess :O
I keep looking for the duck.
I was hoping that by "new chess pieces", you were talking about more ducks
I've always like Sierawan Chess. Its been around for a while
My favorite piece. The kawk
Clearly we need Duck Seirawan chess.
I really like the idea of the book (bishop/rook
aka Queen ;)
I like the idea of the Knight Rook, aka "Kook"
Cabaplanca created this pieces originally i think, but there was 10x10 board
Capablanca is 10x8
_I’m not a k-night…_
_I’m not a k-nishop…_
_I’m a k-nook! And you’ve been KNOOKED!_
we all knew eric browses anarchy chess
this is actually intresting chess variant
1:45 wowowow
Hi Eric, I'd love to see you playing Gothic Chess. All the best!
When chess and duck chess becomes too simple for you , then comes Seirawan (the hawk and elephant ) chess . 🙂 .
@@hungrycrab3297 And then comes 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel, that's a fun one.
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"
@@walugusgrudenburg3068 And then comes 5D XiangQi, 5D Shogi, 5D Betza Chess
8:50 Black hung a queen at 39. Exg4
so glad the new chess update finally dropped
8:51… bro blunders a whole queen and he didn’t take it.
Thats not a hawk or elephant, thats a knook and a bight
I have two similar ideas for the next chess update. A Bishop that can move like a Rook, and a Queen that can move like a King!
Hahaha
Limited edition oh no my knook merch
Knish-- /k'nish/ -- is a pretty cool thing to call the hawk one--if you're into OG central European-derived deli food...
The Rook Knight should be the "Cataphract"
The Bishop Knight should be the "Chariot"
Theres a set you can buy called ChessPlus. You can combine two pieces together and uncombine pieces too. It’s pretty cool
imagine combining pawn with a rook then just instantly promoting,
@@tyuh860 who wants to promote anyway i rather have my “rawn”
Eric, when are you going to do 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel?
8:50 isn't that just a missed free queen by Eric? ^^
Oh no, I just began to understand duck chess...
It's actually a krook, and a kbishop, the ks are silent.
you forgot to place the duck
Pocket knights...each player removes one knight from play, this knight may be played any where on the board any point in time when it is your move.
