He even came back in the 3rd with a good round after being pounded the round before. Give him some credit. Khabib just executed his gameplan better!

What i really meant is that Khabib his game is so much more complete than Connors. And yes his gameplan worked out great. But that gameplan could only be excecuted by a fighter that’s comfortable standing and on the ground.

Ufc jumpped the gun to early too cash in on hype surrounding bus Incident. Connor stepping in after 2 yr layoff was an impossible task you could see Connor was Gassed early on , I wish UFC woulda gave Connor 1 to 2 fights before Khabib to knock ring rust off , it woulda been way more entertaining fight . Kavanaugh kind of explained on JRE why Conor didn't look the same. He said they "focused too much on defense; they were training not to lose, instead of training to win". Before he even said that, that's what I saw from Conor as well. He wasn't as aggressive as he normally is; he seemed like he was worried about playiny/shutting down Khabib's game instead of making Khabib deal with his own game. And just give credit to Khabib for that. The guy is so dominant in grappling situations, that he made the most confident guy in MMA, stray away from his strengths and what makes him good.

Joseph Rogers while that may be true, the reason they were so worried about defense is because Khabibs style and skills are tailor made to destroy Conor. Training aside, Conor has no answer for Khabib and it is clear who the better fighter is. That’s not a knock on Conor, he is an AMAZING fighter, he is just not as good as Khabib.

completely agree. Look like the strategy was to throw a lot of kick+body punches to outlast khabib cause he was going to wrestle. But due to the body shots, Conor would pull ahead and win later when khabib is more tired and can't do take down while playing it safe by just staying in guard. I notice a lot of body shots in the first and second round.
I personally thought Conor should of been super aggressive show no respect for khabib stand up and just run in the first round. Need to get khabib to fear his striking first otherwise he would fear khabib take down and lose.

Did you notice that Conor wasn’t able to lull Khabib into any type of fighting rhythm? It seemed like when Conor fought Eddie he kept a very noticeable rhythm and distance and it almost hypnotized Eddie.
With Khabib it seemed like he was trying to do that tap-tap-strike rhythm and Khabib wasn’t falling for it. Never came in charging chin first like Eddie and Jose Aldo.

Yea, there were many fouls by Conor, including the strikes to the back of the head. Only a couple of warnings from Herb Dean, none that I heard for strikes to the back of the head. Conor got away with way to much, still lost.

Herb Dean isn’t crooked, he is just a terrible ref. Every fight he misses half of what happens both legal and illegal. Most times you have to knockout your opponent two or three times before sleepyhead notices and stops it.
1. Connor illegal elbow to the head.
2. Connor illegal knee to the head.
3. Connor illegal grabbing of gloves.
4. Connor illegal grabbing into cage with his hand.
5. Connor illegal grabbing onto cage with toes.
And he still loses because Khabib is the superior fighter.

How in the world do you lose a round by having an even stand up battle against your opponent but winning in clinch, against the cage and on the floor.

The judge, ref, everyone is terrified of going against Dana's golden boy. In the scripted fight against Cowboy, Conor punches him a few times on the ground and the ref stops it. In the second round, Khabib pummels him for half the round, and nothing.

He did a lot better defending himself on the ground than a lot of Khabib’s recent opponents. That’s a big up for Conor. I really though he would get smashed the moment he hits the ground but he was very competent against the best grappler. It shows that he is legit everywhere. All of Khabib’s prior opponents looked like they were done after 1 where as Conor looked like he had 20% energy zapped out of him. I will not bet against him vs anyone else to be honest. I hate his antics and so glad Khabib beat his ass. But always give credit where it deserves.

Ring rust played it’s part for sure. And I don’t think he is afraid of Khabib. Personally.. I really do believe that the Conor that beat Alvarez with such dominance can beat Khabib for sure. With the precision, the counter attacking and the range control that he showed in that fight against Eddie, I believe he can beat anyone in the devision. The sad thing is.. that’s not the same Conor anymore.

Conor was using the fouls to try & get Herb Dean to stand them up, it was the only way he was getting off the floor. Herb was to smart, knowing these fouls weren't affecting Khabib & it would benefit Conor if he stood them up, great refereeing I thought.

This is by far the best analysis of this fight I have come across. Very insightful and engaging.
Conor didn't have his usual size advantage in this fight. That is the key to his power. He only knocks out little guys.
Doesn't even knock them out, just TKO's them. He's only knocked 1 guy stiff and that was Aldo, who was up 10 seconds later.
Legitt Par All of his knockouts except 1 were at Featherweight. He was even noticeably bigger against Alvarez at 155. And he didn't really open up in the 3rd against Khabib. He just didn't get abused like he did in the previous two. I know what I'm talking about. You should put aside personal preference and learn how to watch fights objectively. And stop calling people casuals who disagree with you. Only casuals do that.

After watching your video how to beat a fighter, I thought Conor would knock out khabib in the first round. On the side note dom Cruz bothered me in this fight when he was trying to compete with joe rogan with “I know more than you” game.

There is a difference between not burning your energy on the ground and taking shots to the face. Him not trying to force himself back up was the strategy, getting pounded and manhandled was not. So Cruz didn't recognize anything when he said that and Rogan replied with he thinks he is just getting smashed. He got the overall strategy, but his timing in saying that's what Conor was doing was way off. Kavanagh didn't say the plan was to take punishment, it was just to not waste energy trying to stand back up. Weathering the storm still means defend yourself. Plus Kavanagh said this after the fact when that criticism was already made a hundred times. So who really knows.

Never have I heard the UFC announce beforehand who the referee will be for their main event fights, but they did for this one. Then Conor McGregor comes out and does all these dirty fouls and Herb Dean (who in the past has momentarily stopped fights because one of the fighters has their hands open, but hasn't poked anyone in the eyes yet)
He didn't even warn Conor about all the cheating he was doing. He moved conor's foot away from the cage once, and Conor went right back and grabbed it and Herb did nothing... He did nothing about the blatant illegal knee to the head on the ground or the rest of the fouls... I like Herb Dean but damn! he was terrible in there ...
