So I live in Western NY. Totally out of the question to grow palms or Spanish moss. I did order a box of live SM from Florida to put in my trees off my deck and near the pond and it really did look quite natural for a few months... then winter..... HOWEVER, I do have banana trees that come back year after year with only a little mulch. They get to be about 4 feet tall..... then winter..... But at least I can say I have naturalized banana trees growing in Western New York....
I’ve had Spanish Moss hanging in my trees in Raleigh for three years. The trick to keeping it alive is to first collect it from the coldest area it grows naturally, or where the climate is most similar to your own. NC grown Spanish Moss is hardier than Florida grown Spanish Moss. Second, collect large clumps, not whisps. The larger clumps are more resistant to birds trying to steal it. Third, dunk it in a bucket of water to make sure it’s completely saturated and hang it in your trees immediately after that, so it dries in place. Spanish Moss likes living in Live Oaks and Crape Myrtles because they both leach nutrients that the moss loves. But the moss will grow on anything that provides it support. I’ve found it does well on Holly trees, with sharp leaves, because the sharp leaves deter birds and help hold the moss in place.
I wanted ask why some palm trees you see have a girdling look on the trunks. Have any idea what that may be from? I’m sure you have seen the trees get really skinny and then larger again - thanks
I’m in Virginia and have Spanish moss I introduced into my backyard, but one thing I learned is DO NOT water with tap water!! Since they’re technically air plants they get all their nutrients from water and tap water don’t got none! Either let the rain do it’s things, or you can spray with rain water if you collect it. Im definitely jealous of the palm run… this video’s got my head tickin! Haha I’ve been told I have “a problem” when it comes to anything arecaceae..
Hey, I live in Kings Mountain NC, not far from Charlotte, and I'm wanting to put Date Palms around my pool, is it possible? Also, do you have any palm sales coming up?
Ive had luck with Phoniex Canariensis and ive seen Phoniex Sylvester surviving as well around here.....im actually heading down next week for another run of palm trees

Haha nice!
How often would you water a small/medium size inground windmill palm during the heat of summer, assuming there isn’t much other rainfall going on?
Windmills need lots of water during the summer heat 🔥
@@palmsrkool9476 So are we talking thorough watering‘s daily? A few times a week, couple times a week?

i think there are a few variations of Sabal in there...Birmingham, Louisiana, Mexicana hyrbrids and thats the difference we see as they grow
@@palmsrkool9476 so you are saying the different varieties of Sabal will have a girdling effect on their trunks?
Palm Heaven in Georgia 🌴🌴🌴
I spray my Spanish moss when it's super super dry, I lost my first cluster to the 2019 drought. Not losing the second one lol
