Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice (amzn.to/3Q54nHW)
The devil's minion chapter should have been a whole book, I will die on this hill
A whole series, give me a whole trilogy of them
Santino and Santiago ate 2 different vampires. Santino is the one that fucked up Marius and Armand and made Armand b a good little satanist.
Santiago was just some jerk vampire who was a satanist then was at the theater.
I don't think that Santiago was ever a Satanist. The original theatre troupe was all dead besides Armand by the time Louis met them.
I unironically love the movie too! I listened to the soundtrack on repeat when it first came out and the movie was what made me want to read the books. This video was excellent! I love all the little memes and stuff you added. They had me cackling! 😂😂😂
Same!!!! The soundtrack is amazing.
Thanks for watching Cassie! I think I'm going to continue on with the series.
The soundtrack has really good bands/ singers/ composers in it. But the movie is a shitshow lol
The soundtrack was awesome, truly captured Lestat's life and experiences as a vampire. The movie though kinda sucked.
@TheNaughtyLibrarian Interview with the Vampire would be the only thing I'm interested in reading. I feel like Anne Rice uses way too many of her characters over and over. I'm okay with reusing characters, but she makes them so much the similar plot, like it's a lack of creativity. An officer that does it right is Stephen King's he does subtle things. However how many times is she going to use Lestat in Louie.
Don't forget Stan Rice's impenetrable poems at section changes, and aaaalll the printer's ornaments. Also note it is dedicated to not one but two dead editors....oh my God no one is flying the plane!
I've watched every review for the vampire chronicles on CZcams and this was by far the most entertaining! I would be so thrilled to get similar reviews for the rest of the vampire series, especially prince lestat & prince lestat and the realms of Atlantis.
I'm planning on doing the whole series. Probably 1 book a month. The Tale of the Body Thief is coming out in a few weeks. :)
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian yaaaaay! Thank you so much,I can't wait!
High with Shakespeare or Drunk Classics...we are here for it and loving it!! 🌿📚🌷😉🌟I must say Anne Rice is now on my TBR. Thank you dear Amanda 💜🌈
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy reading the books. :)
I hope you continue to read the rest of the chronicles. It's worth it. Especially The Vampire Armand. But if do, you kinda have to also read The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, as they crossover. Keep the content coming your videos are hilarious.
That's the plan! I already own up to book 7 so I'll probably read to at least there.
Love the Witching Hour
This is my favourite book in the series
Yes, I have worked my way thru all the vampire chronicles and all of the Mayfair witch saga books. I found only Interview to be exceptional. It was hard to plow my way thru the Mayfair books. However, there are some good stands alone, Feast of all Saints, Cry to Heaven, The Mummy and for the erotic in you, Belinda.
Eventually I may read some other stuff by Anne Rice but right now I'm having a good time working my way through the Vampire Chronicles. :)
I love the movie but the book is much better. They're just completely different and can't really be compared
I read Queen of the Damned over the weekend and really enjoyed it. You were right...There is a LOT going on in this one! The world does truly feel threatened...Until the end. There is a LOT going on in this one! I love how Anne puts a lot of work into all of her characters. But this one was a lot. It feels like she was getting ready to do her witch books, more vampire stuff, and the mummy books. So it feels like a big set-up for those. I could be wrong, but from what little I know of those later books, this seems to be the thing. Rather than a big finish, it's a big beginning. Although the end of Akasha seemed kind of rush. She got mad and then her arch-enemy jumps out of the bushes and ends her. It's good. I liked it. But I can see how this would have been hard to adapt in a movie. I saw the movie a couple of years ago and I didn't hate it. Very early 00's. But there is a lot of stuff going on in here for one movie. And since it was different people making this than Interview with the Vampire, it's even more all over the place. Lestat ends up just being a groupie to Akasha in both book and movie. But he seemed completely worthless in the movie. It's all good, though. Watched part of the flick again last night and got a good laugh when the vampire goon tries to rush the stage and takes a microphone stand to the chest. Dumbass.
Great video!
Though, I thoroughly enjoyed what little actual plot there is in QoD, I think that, as a whole, this book wasn't necessary. It would have (imo) been better as continuation of TVL (minus all the side stories).
I also agree that Akasha's global domination scheme was more than a little childish. Plus, her girl power position loses a lot of its luster when one considers that most of the violent and rapey things done in this book are on her orders.
Bravo on making the addiction connection. It's so blatant. I can hardly believe that I never spotted it. Well done 👍
The asshole vampire in the theater you mentioned was Santiago, not Santino!
Your Laugh is CONTAGIOUS! ❤ Love Your Video content.
I loved reading "Queen of the Damned" and all the flashbacks and background stories. This is the way Anne Rice created her Universe.
This waa amazing. Was into the vampire chronicles as a teen in the early 2000s and all of my friends and i loved the movie, but it did eventually fade out. Need something new to listen to at work so im gonna try the books again.
Have a random rec. Just burned through the doorstoppers of masters of rome. Also many characters but absolutely wild. Up to book 5 of 7.
Thanks for the recommendation! 😸
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian i decided to start here in my (possible) VC reread, mostly bc it feels sounded like a prequel, and i will have more context for future books. Its turned out really awesome. About 6 hrs in . Might do it backwards and read Vampire Lestat next.
These three books/videos are what drew me here. Do iiiiiiiiiiiit mooooooore 💚💚💚💚
haha! The plan is to continue on with the series for at least a few more books.
I don't remember reading this series...i probably did but don't remember. So i needed to catch up. I found most of these books here on CZcams as audiobooks. Listened to THE VAMPIRE LESTAT yesterday. I'll have to listen to QUEEN OF THE DAMMED tonight.🎉
I enjoyed your take on the book
I love these books and it’s always fun to hear someone elses thoughts on something I enjoy
Just one thing stuck out to me
Obviously you may have just mixed ppl up cos your drunk been there done that but if not I thought you might like to know
Early in the video you said santino is the one wanting Claudia dead in interview with Armand
But that was Santiago
I may be wrong but I think we find out that santino is the guy who took Armand from Marius
and tortured him into following the dark rules of the covenant
Before Armand went on to lead the Paris covenant
P.s.
I’m way less confident on this bit of info but I think santino gave Armand his name as his actual name Amedeo was thought to holy a name for a child of darkness
This one is the most difficult book of hers to read. I almost didn't finish it myself and I enjoy her books normally.
it's pure chaos. I'm going to continue on but I hope she doesn't go back to this story structure
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian No this is the only one of hers written this way. I can say I struggled badly with it almost walked away myself. Then it all seemed to fall together about 2/3's of the way through. The story is intresting could of been written or put together a different way.
Wait til you get to "Memnoch, The Devil"
Have you read it yet?
Did you get through it or move on with your life instead? 😆
This review was so hectic i loveeeeeee it !!!!!!!!!!!! 😂.
😂 love the concept ! Drunk and spicy Books to read, you are really fun. Oh and i found the movie atrocious
I have been breaking into the audiobooks for my boy, we love sleeping to audiobooks, and we cannot be far apart from each other, we need to be close to one another, for some reason, and also divorce and such.... but he is requesting more lestat..... and yes, he got it here, ooooh Mekare and Maharet, Khayman, ........... What a tale this is.
I have watched the movie adaptation of queen of the damned unfortunately the movie isn't good but I did enjoy aaliyah in the movie
I love the movie even though it's objectively not a very good movie. haha
same loved Aaliyah
I love the memes. "London Baby." LOL
It really fit the boys vacationing in London. haha
Before the video starts I have a couple problems with the title... "Reading so you don't have to." wtf ? Everyone has to read this book (or should)... It's one of the best series ever written
Reading while drinking can't be easy or good for memory retention. But that's a personal decision.
the "so you don't have to" part is just a joke obviously, she puts it on every book. and of course everyone should read it for themselves. and ppl who already read the books still enjoy the reviews for fun it's not that serious :)
This was hilarious 😂 very good and entertaining review
Thanks for watching!
"A British gentleman" lol
I can't wait to hear the rest of the anne rice vampire books. You asked about a book that was good but ending was meh. I would love to hear your thoughts on the trilogy of "blood legacy the story of Ryan " good vampire books. 🧛♀️
thanks for the recommendation!
I love your reviews for this series! Interview with the vampire is my fav book ever. The original trilogy is so good, it's a pity that the books after queen of the damned are...weird? sometimes the characters feel almost ooc. i dunno. anne rice wrote really strange things lol
Who is your favorite vampire? :)
I have a feeling things will continue getting weirder as time goes on. Personally I really like Gabrielle. She's kind of like vampire lady Indiana Jones.
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian same, i love gabrielle and louis eheh
This video was so fun!
I love the way you laugh
hey it happens sometimes the movie is better than the book, sometimes less winds up being more.
I love your drunk reads and you are truly inspiring. ... Seriously, no joke.. fr fr. ... As far as Queen of the Damned, I NEVER read the book I ONLY saw the movie first with Aliyah playing Akasha. And until I saw your review I DID NOT KNOW Akasha was at FIRST a regular Queen, I didn't know she became a vampire At 21:45 when you explain how Ammo merged with her or possessed her and she THEN became a vampire queen .. 🧛🏽♀👑👻..cool, in the movie they just show how Akasha was a marble image or statue and was brought to life. Any who, I enjoyed your Drunk Read and the movie ... 😋😋😊😊😊😊😝😝.. FYI ... I just did my first Romance Review .. it's A Prince On Paper which I thought was OKAY.. but had fun sorta roasting it. oh well back to fantasy for me with the Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Wizards, Sorceresses, demons, elves, pixies and fairies.... 👍🏽👍🏽 🧛🏽♀🧛🏽♂🧜🏽♀🧝🏽♀🧙🏽♂🧚🏽♀🦹🏽♀🦄🎠🎠🍄🍄🐉🐞🐞🦋🦇📚📚🏰 🎪
I'm glad the review helped fill in some of the gaps in Akasha's story. I like A Prince of Paper but i'm glad you had fun roasting it at least. haha.
Mael is not a viking, is a Celt a Gaul to be precise.
Amel enters Akasha through a wound in her body.
if i remember correctly there was...i don't even know how to describe it. a web of spirits? i thought that was the weirdest part of the book. but i think it's explained in memnoch the devil as a web of all the trapped spirits that haven't gone to heaven/hell yet. or maybe i'm still confused about that stuff.
I don't remember a "web" but there are a whole lot of spirits just stuck on earth with nowhere to go.
So, Nicky is there?
@@freddyjafar1490 didn't he become a vampire? i don't remember. whether he's a vamp or met his final death i don't think all deaths end up as spirits in rice's spirit web. it seems as if some entities were always spirits or don't remember what they were before, some are in a transition before moving on.
I felt like that about Memnoch the Devil. I quit reading it when I was 3/4 of the way. I just couldn't take it anymore.
I'm SO happy to have found someone to agree with me on the movie!
thanks for watching!I think both the movie and the book have certain thing each did better. For example, after reading the books it was really weird to see Lestat so straight washed in the movie because Lestat is primarily attracted to men in the books. But the story structure in the movie was a lot more linear and enjoyable.
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian I will never forgive that movie for erasing Louis, the crack addict looking Armand (he should always be beautiful) and giving us a black haired Lestat, never!!! Lestat loves his blond hair 🤣. But, the soundtrack was slamming.
title that immediately springs to mind is Watchmen. ends just fine, but (a rare beast indeed, this) I liked the ending of the movie better, framing Dr. Manhattan directly is a much less convoluted way to achieve the evil plan.
wait till you get to atlantis. things get wild. _JC
thr is a lot of hanging out in these bks. _JC
I want to read this book because of my queen Aaliyah the princess of RnB.
I will always picture Akasha as Aaliyah too.
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian literally
You totally shouldnt look up the amazing burlesque dancer who did a QOT/Aaliyah dance.
@@user-pi5xo4og9dI think the singer FKA Twigs did one music video where she looked so Akasha looking ...in fact many of those videos would make for an extended Akasha theme
you seem to have forgotten Akasha wanted to eradicate almost all human males, and make a Matriarchy of the world, like the amazons of old.................
but that will be just as evil, we need to be together etc. oops sorry, you said it....
Do we think the spirit could have been a Taltos?
Some much important stuff and backstory has been skipped in this review but I understand, it's literally impossible to review this books, you really have to read it for yourself.
Devil's Minion chapter alone deserves a whole separate review lol!
I disagree you discarding the flashback as "not plot" and only considering present timeline the plot. the past events are for sure the plot as well and very important and enjoyable one too.
Flashback is the whole point of the book, it's the book about origins of vampire, the present day plot is the filler.
everyone saying its their least fave of OG trilogy, but to me QOTD is as good as Vampire Lestat. these two my all time FAVES! totally different books of course, but I'm just a sucker for ancient civilizations and ancient egypt and heavy lore and this books literally is the backbone of lore of all vampire history and Anne Rice created such fascinating vampire mythology and origin. it's just epic! I love this book and the whole ancient plot and modern day plot too and all the reunions and new character etc.. it's just a feast. and once again Anne Rice's love for history comes in because she incorporated so much actual ancient history and mythology from various cultures in this one so if you like that this is the book for you :)
The Witches of Eastwick was not worth the paper it was written on. Just watch the movie. You'll have a wonderful time
For real?
@@freddyjafar1490 yep. That book was so miserable and awful. I kept waiting for the fun and it never happened
I’m amazed at how many here saw the movie first without reading the book. Wow.
I saw the movies far before I ever read the books. But I liked them so much it made me curious to check out the source material.
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian that’s awesome!
It's unfortunate that they chose this book instead of "The Vampire Lestat" for a movie.
Well at least we have the show which I’m sure they’re going to incorporate it in the next season.
u are so fun
Ancient cultures stewed their dead in pots, and what came to the top, you put over rice and stuff.
Sounds like LesTat is a bad writer. Lol
Behold...... the queen of that damned.
I loved the LOTR movies, but didn’t like the books that much. Thought the movies were WAY better. Yes, I like the Queen of the Damned movie. I saw it first because it was Ayesha’s (not sure if that’s her name) the singer- (the lady that played the Queen) final performance before she died. I didn’t even realize it was part of the Vampire chronicles. My bad! 😏
You mean Aaliyah
I 100% agree. Least favorite of the OG trilogy. And absolutely love the movie and soundtrack 😂
I don't know why the movie got so much hate. The narration made it better. I loved the movie, it's one of my favorites.
I love the movie too!
Man it's like you're my mind twin I thought the same thing when I read this book it was so all over the place The story just I don't know it wasn't that good it was like building up absolutely nothing it was the biggest dick tease. I mean the story really had potential but then it didn't sad I agree with you 100% about the movie I think they did a much better job of making the book coherent and the soundtrack is amazing. Come on who doesn't want a little bit of Jonathan Davis and Marilyn Manson. Aaliyah was great and that movie. It didn't give me a headache watching it like the book did. So I for one am with you the book is not that great the movie amazing
Akasha wasn’t as bad like they show her in the movie
The twins were evil tho eating each other
I don’t know confusing book
Well... Akasha was pretty evil. She wanted to kill 90% of all men on earth.
@@TheNaughtyLibrarian lol garden variety feminism haha. Kidding
Seriously,lady?! I hope it is a joke!
