- 2023 Mazda CX9 review by The Straight Pipes. The CX9 is putting down 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5L Turbo 4 Cylinder. At $56,695 CAD, would you take it over the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse, Subaru Ascent, Kia Telluride or Hyundai Palisade?

I got Bronchitis, ain’t nobody got time for that! I’ll be back next videos - Jakub
get all better soon
That smoke got you?
Get well soon
I love you buddy get well
damn get better for christmas bruh!
it’s insane that this design is going on 7 years, and it’s still one of the sharpest looking midsize suv’s on the road.
Bought today, this is the BEST used deal on the market (February 2024)
I recommend this vehicle. Signed, six year CX-9 Signature Owner.
I went from 2 sports cars to this car. I miss the speed and handling, but the luxury in it is nice. And so much room!
what were the 2 sports cars?
@@RJtheREBEL21 2016 Camaro SS and 2018 Miata.
I'm 6'2", 225. We have a '21 CX-9 and it is fantastic. Extremely hard to justify jumping into an Audi if you have a Mazda CX-9. Truth.
I’m 6’2” as well and all the tall ppl are scaring me saying it’s not big enough.. is this true for you??
@@TDL1887 no, I am very comfortable in all of the Mazdas, except for the Miata.
1:39 Thanks for the cameo, Jak! 😆 Glad to see you made it through!
🥰
When they make Tuxmats for people who drive on the right side of the road I'll get some👍
My wife has the 2021 CX9 signature 100th anniversary edition. Pretty rare model in Canada. We love it.
Handling note: When I drove the Pilot, Acadia, Santa Fe, Highlander, and the CX-9 - The CX-9 was the ONLY SUV I drove which wasn’t flustered by a nasty expansion joint on a sweeping turn at 50 mph… All the other SUVs were out of shape, jumped half a lane over, the CX-9 hit the bump and stayed on line like a sedan…
We traded our 2010 CX-9 GT in for a 2021 Sport lease. Then 18 months later we traded the lease in for a 2020 Touring with premium pkg. The standard safety features are a bonus but we wanted the captains chairs and power lift gate. I think this is the best trim to get. You miss out on the 360 camera, heated wheel & cooled seats though... Our family of four fits well in it, with plenty of room to spare. The quality and reliability are top notch too. It compliments my 2016 6 GT well.
How much has Mazda's interior road noise improved?
@@br-ig3pr It is night and day. My 2016 M6 is really loud and the CX-9 is like a Lexus. OK, it's not that quiet but it is high-end feeling. The CX-5 is quiet too. I had one for a loaner for some work I had done and it was nice. Currently in the process of putting sound deadening in my M6. Love the car but the road and wind noise are bad...
I just completed a Chicago to Nashville trip (8hr ride each way) with my family (2 kids). I have the 2021 Carbon edition. Im super happy about the car. It drives so smooth and has perfect overtaking power (turbo def helps). It is not underpowered, it does the job just fine and with basic 87 octane gas ( only has to fill it once) . Steering and handling is phenomenal (nothing less from mazda) I was hitting 110 and not even vibrating a bit. Likewise i was in a porsche cayenne (newer model) and that has more plastic inside and stiffer ride. Ive been a mazda owner since 323F series, than a Mx5, mazda3 and now Cx9. People that own mazdas just know why there is a loyal following. Its a drivers car.
We love our 2019 CX9 signature. Waiting for the next gen to see if it's worth an upgrade. Everything about the car feels solid and high quality. Biggest issue has been the infotainment system, the gen we have is laggy and sometimes refuses to accept Android auto or car play. No sure if unlucky of bad glass but over 3 years we've had to replace the front windshield twice, both Mazda OEM glass. Luckily covered by insurance glass coverage otherwise it was $900+ per replacement.
I have the 2020 CX9 with the last gen UI, issues with the head unit/smartphone integration at first, went away after I told the dealer to update it. They understood "the screen crashes when I plug in my phone"
Great review Yuri! Awesome job to keep it entertaining while Jakub recovers 👍
5:55, WOW, A normal gear selector, that's novelty feature now a days!😉
Great shirt man thank You for support♥️
"I dont know why else you would watch this" because your videos are always amazing, that is why
Oh that’s why! Heheh 🤭
thank you very much for your support, I saw the coat of arms on the T-shirt🇺🇦🤝🇨🇦
All I'm convinced of from watching this is how good a full size station wagon from mazda would look
I have a ‘21 I bought this year. Like how it drives and feels for the size but kind of have been disappointed in the infotainment being glitchy and gas mileage isn’t all that impressive I feel. Glad to see the new ones got an update at least!!
Nice tshirt! Respect, Yuri.
I feel like the prices are comparable for either Palisade or Telluride, so me personally as a 6'3 person, i'd go for those options. but the CX9 in the video looks verrrrry sweet!
Ya if you’re tall. You Gotto fit
engine go boom 💥
Palisade and Telluride bumped their prices a lot for 2023 in Canada. CX9 is $8k less to start. Hyundai and Kia are pushing their stuff upmarket
i went with the highlander hybrid for the mpgs and reliability. the key to it for me is reliability, i dont have to worry about it at all. my parents have a 17 hyundai and already had to have things fixed, on top of that there are all the engine issues they have a history of that i just cant trust. sure the engine is a touch loud and not a good sounding loud at that, but i know it wont thunk rattle or otherwise kamakazi any time soon so its great to me
i bought brand new CX 9 2013 and still using it and love it , it is a great car , I am planning to get a CX 9 2024 sometime next year and I mean it .
Ordered Tuxmats for my m240i on your recommendations. They are amazing!!
Love your shirt Yury ❤️
Lovely Mazda!!! And by the way, thank you for your T-Shirt.
Big like for the t-shirt!
Mazda def goes a great job with their packages. You never feel like they're leaving something out intentionally to for you intro upgrading trim levels. In Canada, GS-L trim is $45k, and you still get good 20" wheels, leather, heated seats/steering wheel, power tailgate; just not any of the tech stuff. It's pretty much the same price as comparable CX-5 at these lower trims.
Looked at one of these the other day to compare to a 2023 Palisade Calligraphy...Still leaning that way but I'm holding out to see the new CX-90... And to see what happens to the market next year
AND because the CX-5 is just a great little SUV! We loved ours. Only ditched it because we were done buying gas.
The CX-9 is being replaced by the 2024 CX-90 (and more narrow CX-80 in some markets). I would imagine the CX-90 is going to incorporate a lot of styling and other touches from the CX-50 and it will be larger than the CX-9. It's also going to have a Toyota Rav 4 Prime style PHEV system which will likely make over 320 HP and get around 30 mpg.
I have a 2021 CX-9 GT and I really like it, except for the MPG. I picked it over an Audi.
It'd incorporate the style from the Europe-released CX-60
CX-90 will most likely look like the CX-60 but longer and wider, PHEV-system could also be in-house, like with the CX-60 but tuned for the American market (so more hp and perhaps bigger range)
:)))
CX-50 is uglier than the cx-5.
Ours is going on 5yrs and still have nothing but great things to say about it. IMO, still one of the best looking 3-row vehicles on the market.
The knee-room thing is a unicorn... If your 6ft+ try for yourself... I know a couple 6ft guys with this car, plenty of knee room and love driving it.
I'm 6'4 and I make it work for sure
Great t-Shirt ❤❤
It’s amazing to me that remote start, which a friend in high school had on their cobalt key fob, is no hidden behind a paywall and an app. Seems like a huge step backward.
Just make sure you buy a physical one.
@@scottbast3678 point is that for ~$300 total in 2008, a basic car like a cobalt had remote start. Now a pseudo luxury car only has it if you pay ~$20/mo for as long as you own the car. That’s not a good deal
@@dbeckMSP agreed. Horrible deal. Take the "700" over 60 months instead of 960 over 4 years. So what i meant was get it put in. No subscription.
Just saw Yuri tonight on 12/15/2022 National news commenting about the weather with his Continental Tire coat on sitting in a car! Now we know you made it big time! In Canada anyway 😂!
Lol send the clip
@@TheStraightPipes Sorry, don’t have the clip, just caught it last minute. Maybe someone else has the clip or the network would.
Feel better Jakub. Surprising to say my sister’s MDX Type S has massaging seats and it’s legit massage!
You should all review the GT to get the captain chairs without the center console. Way easier for people and kiddos to get in the back, and if an adult Seats in the back. It gives you extra leg space.
There is an option you can enable in the infotainment to lock the car everytime you walk away from it with the keyfob in your pocket. That can resolve the issue you had with waiting for the trunk to close and then lock the car using the button.
I was going to post the same comment. That’s one of my fav features!
Thanks for sharing this tip!!!
It would be cool to see how many G's the cars pull to have a mesurable difference other then "feel". You guys are killing it by the way, love your most recent reviews. Keep up the meticulous reviews guys!
Tourque. Ft. Lbs. They have that shown on on sporty cars
@@HardcoreWeeaboo no he means gravity bro. Like how much gravity feels different when your being pulled. 1,000hp means nothing when it comes to a 10ton bitch
Stock Mazda tires are poop. So Mazda has great "feel" bit stock tired, not so great outright grip. CX-9 also has intrusive stability control.
Those Tuxmats are awesome, i bought the front and rear mats for my new Q5 Sportback. Best mats on the market 👍🏻.
Right on!
3d maxpider are the best
Nice solo review!!!
This would be perfect if the signature came with a second row bench
Dude, you have a awesome T-shirt!
My Mazda 3 turbo has the same engine, in a small car it’s beautiful
We bought a 2023 CX9 Touring which is the base model in the US. Got a great deal and it is a really solid vehicle. Definitely one of the best out there. The CX-90 is a nice progression and I hope will be a good deal moving forward.
I searched (mazda cx9 2022 thestraightpipes ) 3 hours ago now its here
I read your mind
Was groovin’ to that intro music
how have your brakes held up on your CX-5? I had to replace brakes twice. Factory brakes are crap but now that i've replaced them with high end brakes, no issues.
I just bought a 2020 model 3 weeks ago. I'm actually glad I didn't get anything bigger, as I wouldn't use the extra space the vast majority of the time. We considered an MDX and a Pilot since the Telluride is currently overpriced with markups. Used Models were some of the best priced since they are not as popular as I think they should be. My kids fit well in the back, and the third row would only be used in fringe cases. Regarding Space, I'm 5'8" and my wife is 5'2". We have plenty of room. No minivans for this family either! I love this thing!
Shorties.
I really appreciate how it doesn’t have a god awful cvt like the ascent. Also it’s nice that it’s not ugly like the new ascent front end
I am surprised how well my rav4 offroad feature works and its so varied as well. Gem of a car. The best purchase I ever made
The RAV4 engine is so unrefined. And the interior is all hard plastics
@@RRLV434 interior / exterior is outdated
When shopping for a new CUV earlier this year the CX9 was at the top of my list. We’ve had a Mazda6 in the past and replaced that in 2016 with a CX5 that we still have and they’ve both been great. Unfortunately, the CX9 doesn’t have near enough space in the drivers seat for me at 6’3. My right knee had no room and since this was going to be our primary family vehicle used for cross country road trips and my 55 mile round trip commutes, it just wasn’t going to work. Bummer.
We looked at one of these before getting our Odyssey. Too bad the second row doesn’t have more sliding travel. If not using the 3rd row it’d be nice to slide those further back, like our Mazda 5 used to do.
Legit shoutout to the CrossContact LX25's you mentioned - I put them on a Crosstrek and that thing handled snow, ice, beach sand, mud, rain, FLOODS and normal road conditions! Like props to TSP for actually good products and not just random sus sponsors. Edit: 2021 was a crazy year for Texas. The contis helped soo much
Amazing tires. Have them on our SUV’s!
We use nokian hakkapeliitta r3 suv on our cx9 and it goes through everything too. Expensive though
Shout out to Yuri for his fantastic shirt! (watching this video from Ukraine)
i hope everyone in the comment section get her dream car one day .. God Bless You & ur family
Competition 13:20 a few factors to consider:
Cx9 is still made and assembled in Japan. In the 'engineer's dream factory', shoutout to the amazing Automotive Press video.
Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot would be the only alternatives in my book, but I'm biased to getting Mazda in too many ways.
Huyndai and Kia should be boycotted by customers for a few years - ridiculous amount of recalls and safety issues... just don't buy them. On a positive note, their rims are a perfect match for my Mazdas! great for winter sets and downsizing from 19" to 17". Thank you FB marketplace
Got a CX-5 delivered to the hospital the day that our newborn son was ready to go home...best Dad-mobile ever.
Digging the intro music
Nice t-shirt
TL;DR - Most of the stats / mechanics are adequate but it's a beautiful / high quality vehicle. Definitely worth the money (I find the Grand Touring is best bang-for-buck trim).
I own the 2021 CX-9 Grand Touring - I love this thing. It's exactly what me and the wife needed. No kids - 2 cats and family across the tri-state area (500mi drives one way for holidays). I'd say this thing is perfect for any young / middle aged professional under 6'1".
I went with the captain's chairs W/O the center console in 2nd row BECAUSE the third row is a bit claustrophobic unless everyone adjusts "as if they care about the person behind them". Which is an apt way to describe it. The Bose sound system is "okay". Very mid-heavy but just enough treble and bass to be interesting-enough. It's not a fast vehicle but peppy enough to not be boring. What I love the most is the nice interior for the price.
Touring premium is even enough
Oh please. I’m 6’5 and I drive a Mazda 2021 CX9 daily! Very spacious.
As a graphic designer, Yuri might be able to appreciate how elegant the typeface of the Mazda infotainment is.
Really puts the typeface of my Audi infotainment to shame.
It very nice
Doesn't the car (including the boot) lock automatically as you walk away? It does that on my 2015 Mazda3, I'd be very surprised if that was not the case here.
0:05 Damn! Which Britax car seat is this? It looks awesome!
It is a very good option considering a family
Great review. Also that boujee child's carseat.. I had to look it up 😆 Yup out of my price range haha.
That click tight though. In and out in no time
How come you guys don't do the box test anymore?
Loving the ‘stache
Love my new cross contact lx25 continentals!
Loved the CX-9 back on warzone
*oh wait*
Test drove the highlander, pallisade, pilot, yes those vehicles may have more space but in terms of driving experience/handling/refinement the cx9 blew them out of water.
Was 50/50 between having after my jeep stolen a CX9 GS-L or Hyundai Santa cruz 2023.... And i decided a Hyundai Santa Cruz 2023 Trend... damn good decision i did and love it!
If you have a big family of more than 4 people this car Mazda is the perfect rear-back view that is an awesome grill and logo that is so beautiful i like this one
13:22 - *wipes glasses* BRO IS THAT A SUPRA BRO
Traded my 2017 cx5 for a 2018 CX-9 and don't see me leaving Mazda anytime soon. Love these cars and the CX90 is calling my name like a mf
Yassss
6'2" here, would have been on my 2nd CX-9 by now, but it doesn't fit my right leg in the drivers seat. Crossing fingers the CX-90 fixes that issue.
Grandma Betty with the new tires 👏🏾👏🏾
Nice t shirt, Yuriy! 🇺🇦🇨🇦
I am 6’3”. I fit fine in our 2023 cx5 and the cx9 at the dealership. If you need more room, by a Yukon.
Nice t-shirt 🇺🇦
Mazdas are so nice and I like my 3 hatchback, but they are small and tight on the inside
Beautiful 🚗
Yaaa this my next car. Was gonna be a 3 but I'm tall and need the space
I’m on the fence about getting one of these but want to hold out for the CX-90. Also, I’m 6’3” and ABSOLUTELY HATE that my knee hits the center console. It’s my only negative, but it’s a huge one.
We will have a video on the 90 early next year
Great review yaari we've had a CX9 for 5 years and would buy another one in heartbeat the subscriptions seem to be a real rip off
I had a feeling this would be a solo review. Jakob sounded sick and unwell during the updated XC40 review. Hope hes feeling better by now.
I am slightly better, good enough to film again. Thanks!
The Buick estate wagon lives!
its a good looking car, for the segment and price
We are on our second CX-9. We love it. I’m 6’3 and fit completely fine. My only complaint is where my left leg rests on the door. Kinda hurts the knee if you are on a trip.
It's such a simple deal breaker that I noticed in the cx30 as well, your leg has to rest directly against the centre console the whole time you're driving, it's extremely uncomfortable.
The VW Atlas is no longer a contender? Haven't heard you all speaking about it recently
I've got the same problem as Jakub in the CX-9- my right knee is just kinda...jammed in there, and I'm only 5'10". I really hope the next generation solves this issue because I like the Mazda lineup a lot, otherwise.
I'm 6'3" my knee is has no where to go in my 19' signature. I've kind of got used to it but it's a pretty big oversight by Mazda. My interior has tons of squeaks and the front suspension crashes over certain types of bumps. I really want to like it but with all these issues I kind of regret buying it.
@@tommytufguy3432 the smaller wheels with tires with more sidewall on the lower model help for sure I have a 16' touring doesn't look as sleek but help a bunch with the ride quality. and also 6'3" I know your pain, but its what the wife wanted! crank that seat all the way down haha
I also have this same issue in the new Pathfinder but forgot to mention it in the video (coming next week)
The new cx90 will be wider. The old vehicles could not be made wider due to limitations in their Japanese factory, it was designed with tight Japanese streets in mind, the new plant in the US was specifically designed to fix this issue in North America as that is one of their most consistent complaints.
😂 my husband hates driving my Car (he 6’2”) his leg hits the center console.
483 views dropped 4 minutes ago new all time fastest I've made it to your video
Great video and thank you for the Tridend on your t-shirt and your support to Ukraine!
What happened to the box tests ?
10k seems like a lot of money for basically a 3rd row from the CX-5 Sig. Never understood why there's such a big jump between the CX-5 and 9 as compared to all the other lines when you go up or down a level.
Bc it’s an outgoing model the lease deals on these right now are crazy. It’s cheaper to lease a cx9 then a cx5 at some dealerships
Acura does offer massage on the new mdx top trim and the type s trim
Yuri what do you think about the CX-5 getting a poor rating for the IIHS new crash test?
Total bummer for rear occupants
