  • Gator Blades vs High Lift Blades: Which One Is Better? (Which is Ideal For You?). In today's video, we’ll share our thoughts on how the Gator Blades compare to the High-Lift blades to help you choose the mowing blades that best suit your needs.
Experts note that there are only two types of mowing blades, the high-lift, and the mulching blades.
Gator Blades and High-Lift blades are essential elements of your mower - they cut the grass then discharge the clipped grass. Gator Blades are made by the Gator brand - Oregon Gator Blades, and they are also called mulching blades. High-lift blades are, in essence, the regular mowing blades with a high lift and lifted edges or cutting parts that lift the grass being cut high bagging or discharging grass clippings.

So wait. Do these blades cut the grass, then discharge the cut grass? Or do they cut the grass, then discharge the cut grass? Im confused 😅

I just switched from the John Deere oem blades to the Gators. Huge difference. The OEM blades were just cutting and pushing the grass out. No secondary processing. The Gators do a much better job. Hit a stick? No clanking under the deck. It just gets obliterated.

This is a follow-up comment. I read others comments about the blades causing vibrations. Well I just pit brand news blades on the balancer and all 3 are off balance. 2 are very slightly, the 3rd moreso.

Just my own blades back on and prefer my own high lifts to gators. My grass grows fast especially in the spring and damp and need to get it out the Shute as quick AA possible

I just ordered the G5 gator blade for my Troybilt push mower to hopefully cut the grass cleaner. With the original blade it looks like the cutting edge is the same height as the inner part of the blade and I feel it's rubbing all against the grass and messing the tips of the grass up making them torn looking and turning yellow. Also I have some tall fescue patches and they look matted down instead of standing up, hopefully the gator blade sucks them up straight while cutting.

It's actually a new blade, got it last fall hoping it would cut better than the last blade, but it didn't. I even sharpened it beginning of this spring even though it looked fine. My lawns only 1,000 no rocks and nothing else to hit so it's not exactly being beaten up. I only said "original" blade because it's an exact replacement blade. If you lay that blade flat on the table the middle is about the same height as the cutting edge. Where the G5 blade is much higher in the middle and no chance of the grass being smacked with it. I've used the G5 blade already and no yellow and brown grass tips after mowing, unlike the previous blade. I'm sold already. Much better cut.

Pictures are confusing - keep changing and not matching the voices blade description. Should be divided into 2 separate parts such as 1: High Lift then 2: Gator.

It would be better to show a picture of the blades you're currently talking about rather than cycling through pictures of random blades that are uncorellated to what you're talking about

Exactly. It's very confusing if you're not familiar with mower blades.

Over 70% of the grass blade is just water by continually mulching it with the Gator blades you return that water and only pushed the actual debris into your bag which is chopped finer and packs more into the bag

I had a Husqvarna and Craftsman 54" 2022 mowers that came with high lift blades. Both mowers pushed clippings out the left side of the deck leaving a windrow of clippings; totally unacceptable. I returned the Husqvarna and put Gator blades on the Craftsman; problem solved. High lift blades are no good.

I really feel you have to have a high lift blade.. they run the lawn mower blades too slow these days and the deck design has a lot to be desired.... I'm amazed the people put up with the shity quality cut that mowers give you these days.... It's like we have a new standard.. spindles used to last for 50 years now you're lucky if you get 5 years out of them..😮
