    Great tip about the push up. I do a lot of strength training and am generally strong, but somehow still struggle to do full push ups (maybe 6 or 7). I therefore always just do knee push ups. I'm definitely going to try incline from now onwards and see how it goes. Glad I found this video!

    Hi Justina! First time watching and I subscribed right away! I was wondering if you had a video on the differences between functional training vs hypertrophy training? What kinds of exercise does functional training entail, when does an exercise become "too compound" to be effective, etc.?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  Před 2 lety +2

      I don't have one specific for that, but it's a great idea! In short, hypertrophy training will focus on training muscle groups. Functional training focuses on training movement patterns. Hope that helps!

      @@JustinaErcole Oh that makes so much sense! Great explanation and I'd love to hear more about it if you make a video on the topic someday! Since I wan to continue practicing my favourite (but very high impact) sports, this might be a great way for me to train after/in combo with physio from now on. I'll keep looking into it! The exercise where the girl is facedown is a legitimate exercise, it's a bodyweight reverse hyper - it works the posterior chain: glutes, hamstring and lower back.

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  Před 3 lety +3

      Right, but so is a burpee and I think that’s an exercise that isn’t useful for the majority of the population. Totally just my opinion though

    • @NayomiPennant
      @NayomiPennant Před 3 lety +1

      @@JustinaErcole Reverse hypers can be used as a way to develop, strengthen and even rehab the lower back area. With bent knees they work more of the glute as with most bent-knee hip extension movements (bridges/hip thrusts/kickbacks). But I digress, the exercise can be useful for those who want to specifically target their glutes/booty, therefore useful to audience watching the persons content.

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  Před 3 lety +1

      @@NayomiPennant I totally understand, but I still think the cons outweigh the pros and there are better safer exercises for the majority of the population. I take a functional approach to training so this just doesn’t align with my training style.

    • @NayomiPennant
      @NayomiPennant Před 3 lety +1

      @@JustinaErcole Totally understand you on the functional approach however I think her video was targeted at individual with aesthetic goals versus individuals with functional movement or performance related goals. I do agree this movement patterns does not work for everyone however some people find even find squatting problematic. Each to their own.

      I just wanted to thank both of you for being respectful while telling your point of view and understanding the others one. Makes me happy when even though there are disagreements, people can find a way to you know, understand each other (when no ones integrity is being put at stake). Question: I’ve been informed that when having back/knee pains glutes strength and ankle excersices are needed. In that scenario, the glute excercises can be the activation ones or there’s a need to reach hipertrophy and all that jazz?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Carolyn, it's not that you won't get any benefits. But your core really doesn't have to work much in a push up on the knees so it's only targeting the chest and triceps. So it's really just my preferred method :)

    so what does it mean that gym machines arent great? i mean in a normal exercise day for the upper body, for example, you should alternate them with dumbell/bar exercises to be a great workout? or you should just quit them?for a bodybuilding goal... i thought that isolation exercises are the best for that goal, and machines are for those ones

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  Před 3 lety

      It completely depends on your individual goals, but I don't find that the majority of the population are working toward max muscle growth like a bodybuilder. Machines take all of the core control out of the movement, so I would much prefer to work on the floor with clients. I train people functionally, and in daily life a stronger core will serve us better.
