- Since acquiring this machine, a 90s IHI 28J with an Isuzu 3LB1 diesel engine, it has never started easy. Now that temperatures are below 60 degrees, it's almost impossible to start. It was evident that the glow plugs weren't working at all, but it wasn't as simple as a fuse or just replacing the glow plugs...

Thanks for making this video, and especially for showing the glow plug timer part number and pin out. I am working on an IHI 30JX with 3LB1 and am chasing down an intermittent glow plug issue so this has been very helpful. It has no starting trouble but the glow plugs will come on randomly whilst operating. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 👍
That’s a symptom my original timer had, which I believe led to the failure of two of my glow plugs.

Great video, very helpful . Is that smoke on initial start up just normal as my L3A1 does exactly the same?
For an older industrial, mechanical diesel, I would say so. Just a brief puff, but nothing more.
Thanks for that. My glow plug timer only supplies power for around 5 seconds, which I think is rather short,. Is that normal or do you think the timer is faulty. Cheers Phil @@fixaday

Dang lol, I thought for sure by now you’d be up and running! I think I had mine finished around late May 2022. I used a gas harness and tried using a gas PCM to control it, but the shift points were too far away for 3rd and 4th. I ended up having to buy a diesel PCM but it’s been flawless since.
I even have a clip of it running/driving in my previous video
