Poilievre calls Trudeau “a fake and a phony” as Conservatives threaten “carbon tax election”

- Wednesday's question period in Canada's House of Commons continued its heated debate on carbon pricing leading up to April 1st, when a proposed hike is scheduled to increase by 23 per cent.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government to stop their hike on the price of pollution, threatening to call for a non-confidence motion that would dissolve the House and lead to a “carbon tax election.”
During the heated debate, the House Speaker warned Poilievre about using unparliamentary language, after the Opposition Leader said the “prime minister once again demonstrates that he is a fake and he is a phony.”

The point is that if you use less carbon, you get more back than you put in. It gives an incentive to make more carbon efficient choices. We’ve had it in BC for years. Works well. Since 2000, we’ve cut carbon emissions per person from 15 to 11 tons. It was brought in by a right leaning government. I don’t know why this has even become a political issue.

If $3 per fill up creates a financial hardship for you then maybe you'll use your annual $1000 CARBON REBATE (or $1800 for Albertans) from JUSTIN TRUDEAU to replace your gas guzzler with something more fuel efficient, and THEN the carbon rebate will have done it's job as intended. MONEY IN POCKETS TO SAVE THE PLANET. Why are you complaining!?

Funny how Poilievre forgets that the Great Recession of 2007-2009 happened during his and Harper's overly long term, and they didn't even have Covid to deal with. Also, he conveniently dumps a lot of municipal problems (like building permits!?) on Trudeau's federal doorstep, despite Conservative leadership in those cities, such as Toronto's 9 years of former Ontario PC leader John Tory as mayor and 5 years of Ontario PC leader Doug Ford as premiere. Well the people who are PAYING ATTENTION will! Pierre doesn't care. Poilievre only pretends to care about people and affordable housing, and blames Trudeau for his own failures. When PP was Housing Minister in the 2015 Harper gov't, he only even SAID the word "housing" ONCE in the House of Commons. Under his watch, the gov't built ZERO new apartments, ZERO new housing co-op's, and built only SIX affordable housing units in all of Canada. He cut 97% off the federal affordable housing initiative to reduce it from $452 million to just $16 million, and as a result, the Canadian private sector built fewer new homes than any year under Trudeau. Now he plans to repeat history and make those cuts again to the Liberal's affordable housing initiative from $4 Billion to just $100 Million. He told reporters that "Gov't should get out of the home building business and sell all federal buildings and land to developers." He plans to create a complaints dept for residents if someone tries to build affordable housing in their neighbourhood. He plans to reinstate GST on new apartments. He has NO PLAN to help students, seniors, workers, the most vulnerable, or anyone else own their home. Instead he belittles the starter homes of hard working Canadians as "tiny little shacks." Pierre doesn't care about people. Pierre doesn't care about communities. Pierre doesn't care about affordable homes. Pierre only cares about Prime Minster Pierre, and he'll SAY anything to make that happen. Just don't expect him to say "housing" if it ever comes true, because Pierre doesn't care.

@talktothehandreviews there was no housing shortage then or mass immigration as there is now. We also came out of the recession better than any country in the G7, and our dollar was higher than the US dollar under Harper at the time.

I guess he was happy enough with the promotion to not care that Harper emptied his new portfolio and made his job that much easier.
