    Huge tip for the torque converter bolts. On the driver side there is a large rubber grommet you can pull and easily acess the bolts. Its in a similar spot at the starter except on the driver side.

      Thanks for the tip I tried the shorty socket on a Dewalt half and ended up gearing it all the way back and jamming it from spinning in either way I had to use a shorty breaker bar 😒 wish I read the comments first

    Hi I’m trying to find a solution for my Mercury Grand Marquis’s. It’s a 2001 and I need to replace the transmission and there’s three models. On mine the id code is 1w7P AA and I was wondering what the difference is between the BA and DA and if I could use a transmission from a crown Victoria with low miles.

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering  Před 4 měsíci

      Your best bet is to replace it with the same calibration code. Differences can be valve body, gearing, torque converter, and programming. I understand the urge to try to put in a lower mileage unit, but the potential issues that can result are not worth the attempt in my opinion.

    • @foxhedalpha
      @foxhedalpha Před rokem +1

      You are going to have to change the angle of the transmission either by lowering it or lifting it. You can then use a bunch of extensions to reach it. You might realize that you are going to be a couple feet behind the trans just to see the bolts and be able to put them in

    My crown has a screeching sound at start coming from under the car and between the engine and transmission and stays on gets louder as I put it in drive but only drives at 20 mph what could it be?

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering  Před rokem

      If you are certain it is coming from between the engine and transmission... it could be the flexplate, torque converter, transmission. Verify the source of the noise. If you are not experienced in raising a car and getting under it sagely, please consult someone who is before attempting to jack up the car and crawl under it.

    I have a Crown Victoria 2008 that needs a transmission replacement/repair I suspect. Had all the signs when it stopped working. Now it's dead because the battery is discharged. What should I expect in terms of costs at the car shop? You make it look easy. They will make is sound complicated, long, and expensive. I love the car but couldn't afford to repair it, and now I have to do something about it. Any ballpark estimate would help. Thank you.

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Cost of replacement transmission, new fluid and filter + labor. Expect to pay 750-1250 for labor. Possibly more now that the u.s. dollar is basically worthless. Do not skimp on the job. Replace both the transmission and the torque converter.

    Did you have to reprogram the transmission after the replacement?

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering  Před 5 měsíci

      No...
      But I did ensure that the replacement unit was an exact match to the one that came out. There is an info tag on the tranny with identification numbers and calibration code, when sourcing a replacement.. ensure that the calibration codes match and it should run fine without reprogramming.

      @@OccultEngineering will that make any difference on how the transmission work?

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @Blackmarc__ the parking brake is not connected to the transmission, but if it is seized and won't release, it will make the car feel like it is dragging, or not move at all if it is holding strong enough. Yours appears to have just slightly dislocated from the bushing slot on the bracket. It will not interfere with the normal operation of the transmission, it only controls the parking bracket on the rear wheels. It is critical that the parking brake operate freely for safe driving conditions. If it is seized up and the parking brake is engaged, even if you are able to roll... the rear drums will heat up quickly and can crack, or warp, blow out brake cylinder seals, and even cause tire blowout while going down the road. Just make sure the parking brake freely operates.
