    Thanks Ernie. I'm thinking the wood fuel is intended to go in the upper bowl, with burn air coming in below. Still, aluminum is the least appropriate metal to use with wood... stainless & titanium would be best. That said, I do like the butane flame pattern on this unit... but that doesn't counteract the weight and bulk.

    I have one and absolutely love it. Makes the perfect little tabletop fire pit for sitting outside at night. Can cook on it, enjoy a wood fire, and can even use a few bricks of instant light charcoal. Also does work well in a day hike pack if you're just walking out somewhere to fix some lunch and take in the scenery.

    Thank you Ernie for your gracious reply to my last comment, which CZcams is not allowing my reply. Two of my favorite things are stove and coffee. The community needs your opinion on the pill bottle stove.

    I would be very tempted to drill out those rivets that hold the inner bowl. they look like the nest well and do not really need the rivets. you could reattach the pot stands if you needed to. this would make it very easy to install that gas burner, and give you better access and storage inside the unit itself. Great job. Thanks for the review.

    I have one of those. It would get the job done, but not my first pick. Yes, it is quite heavy and bulky. I think a fire would
    do alright in the upper bowl, but not necessarily for cooking.
    It went into my "curiosity" collection. It was easily overshadowed by any of the Firebox stoves.

    Hard to beat the firebox stove expecially when it comes to multiple fuel sources. Ive used wood, wood pellets, charcoal, solid fuel, alcohol, butane, and propane in my nano.

    The pot stand part of this stove looks EXACTLY like a stove ALOCS was selling a few years ago as a tabletop charcoal stove. I think it was meant for grilling at the table in restaurants. So it's optimized for charcoal rather than wood, that's what the air vents are for. Probably not great airflow for wood, because charcoal generally needs somewhat less air. (Also, it was something like $60 five years ago, without the gas burner!)

    With the number of burn bans we see these days, I would like to come at this from the point of view that this is primarily a wood stove that can use alcohol or gas when the ban is on. If you tried the wood burning function to address the concerns that aluminium might not stand up, and if burning wood is actually efficient I think that would make a good follow-up to this video. Thanks for the review!

      Can’t use alcohol like Trangia when a fire ban is in effect. Stove needs to have a regulator, on and off switch. The only thing you can use is canister which you can with this but looks too bulky in my opinion, I’d rather have the Firebox with the canister adapter.

    Hey Ernie, been a subscriber for a while, and I have to say that you've cost me a fair bit of money in stoves, and I certainly don't regret it. I know your a family man (I most certainly am not) and probably have a lot more experience than I do with cooking for large groups of people out of doors, my first and preferred method is open fire and cast iron/stainless steel depending on what's being cooked, but I recently found out I could be cooking for between 10-15 on a camping trip this late June through early July when I have an unexpectedly large number of men plus families from my old Infantry company coming out...normally I wouldn't worry about it, but late June through early July is kind of when open fire prohibitions start to become a thing, usually it isn’t until August that fires are outright banned, and it's typically restricted to pits/gas/charcoal from late June or early July, what are your picks for large group cooking under a situation where some bureaucrat decides that the calendar says I'm no longer responsible enough to use an open flame fire to cook for 15 people?

    Great informative review Ernie.
    You should check out the ALOCS CS-B13 stove, it's an awesome little bit of kit.
    Just drill off those silly feet on the ends of the potstands and that puts the pot at the ideal height for the burner, plus makes it useable for smaller pots too.

    @thomasmusso1147 Před 3 měsíci

    Another variation. Wood? With Aluminium .. don't think so.
    Reading some of the comments, it would make for a nice table-top unit and with compressed charcoal briquettes too.
    Charcoal is a very much underrated option. Lightweight, clean and long burning .. and a pack of 12 take up minimal space in one's pack.

    Fires need O2 to burn. I think those slots in the bottom are a great idea. Also it allows you to use 3 fuel sources. What other fuel would you want to use? nuclear ? Electric ?

    Very worthwhile content. I can't see myself getting this, just because of the stand/wind shield. That extra bulk is fairly annoying. I've a collapsible wood stove that when I put it together can support my alcohol (redcamp) stove in a pinch. I haven't tried it with a burner stove, though I do own several which may fit.

    Secondary combustion is real and can burn carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide.
    But, yeah, I don't understand how that setup works with alcohol or gas. It does look like it would work with wood, but you'll have to try it to be sure.

  • @OttoBAbear
    @OttoBAbear Před 3 měsíci

    Does the internal part rotate? If it rotates, does it affect airflow enough to make a difference? Is the inner shell steel or aluminum? If steel I could building a wood fire in it for s'mores, and a couple charcoal brickets to heat stew with.
    I think this would be fun to mess with, but would probably never even car camp with it

    The pot stand tapers down to a smaller diameter than the top. Seems to me that this would be tippy on an uneven or soft surface.

    I wonder if that inner was removable and then flipped it over the main bowl and worked as pot stand and have more room for wood in the main bowl ? Just spit balling

    NO, I did not like it, it is too bulky and does not allow an efficient use of the inner space for a pot, etc (for that volume I prefer to take my Trangia 27 !!!), so I will stick with my Trangia set (alcohol burner + gas burner + triangle) and of course the Firebox Nano, that always travels with me!

      Think of how many reviewers don’t go past their property, claim they’re truly testing and they’re just cheating, testing tents in the rain but they’re actually sleeping in their truck lol. At least this guy is not cheating doing fake videos claiming they’re testing on the field when they’re not.
