"Home isn't a place, it's a person. So you're homeless for awhile-emotionally, certainly." Years I've tried to articulate this, and Jimmy captured it perfectly. Thank you ❤️
I am happy we get to hear him on these shows. Love this kinda stuff
My mother has been dead for almost 20 years and I just realized this is why my hometown was no longer my hometown.
I’ve always listened to Carr and thought of him as a savant. It’s always cool to see him conversing sort of normally, it’s even more impressive than his machine gun joke spitting cleverness.
@@JorgTheElderbro! That is deep. Genuine respect from Sydney AUSTRALIA.
This sentence made me cry
Jimmy dropped like six or seven pieces of the best life advice I've heard in under two hours
The Prince of Darkness 😂😂😂....drops life advice....
His self help book is also really good.
Jimmy is quite possibly in the top 3 best podcasts guests for the past 6 months to a year. Every time he's on a pod I'm so excited to watch it and not disappointed in the slightest. He treats every one of them like a little performance - he comes prepared, he says a few things that repeat and a few things that are specific to that pod and he's very genuine and wise. Absolutely love him.
It's actually delightful to hear him serious
Yah I ve found that in the past six months hes all over and I always click. I guess I am sick of goofing and "funny" videos reviews...
Can you recomend any other? I loved Louis Ck on YMH and Tim Dillon show...i also loved Bill Burr on Rogan (the one in which he is wearing a blue t shirt), Jimmy was great on Jordan Peterson's pod...
"There's a lot of good shit in books."
-- Neal Brennan, education spokesman
Man, I didn't think I could like Neal or Jimmy any more than I already do, but they figured out a way.
"You're not reading, you're listening"/"It feels like cheating" - Someone pointed out that general literacy is such an extremely recent phenomena, that listening to books read aloud is how the overwhelming majority of humans experienced media for all time. Nothing to be ashamed about.
Oh my god, Jimmy saying "easy for you ta say" after that stumbling intro is the greatest sign that this is gonna be a great fucking episode.
Jimmy is, somewhat on the low, one of the most prescient modern philosophers in my opinion. His quickness and depth of thought is impressive on so many levels.
well you don't get into Cambridge without being genuinely clever,,,
It's that 3x audible life lol
He's secretly the greatest man that has ever lived
This needs to happen like every month or two, Jimmy and Neal is magic
Loving the J Carr boom on my favorite US podcasts recently and looking forward to this one the most. Thank You.
Jimmy is 100% right with his comment about the podcast that one should watch a comedians Blocks episode then watch their
Specials and more often than not you’ll enjoy them more and be invested therefore greatly elevating your experience!
Damn Jimmy is one of the smartest comedians out there! Maybe all time.
Hearing Jimmy describe his mom's passing from the same ailment that took my father was both heartbreaking and lovely. It was the most British thing I have seen from him.
I wasnt sad about the mom, cause i don’t like mine. But I do love my dogs and I’m sad that they will die someday
Are you doing a bit? @@Ottophil
@@nathanreiber6819some people actually just hate their moms. It happens 🤷🏽♂️
@@DMU386 so if your friend in attendance of your mothers funeral dismissed your grief on the grounds that their own mother was an abusive alcoholic, you would find that to be a perfectly valid and acceptable point to make? What other group of people can share this kind of collective guilt in your eyes?
This was absolutely a joy to listen to. I’d never considered myself a fan of Jimmy. I’d seen him host things and seen a bit of his standup, but this podcast conversation was so genuine and wonderful to watch. The quality of your friendship was palpable.
This conversation was so so great. Tempo, subjects, awareness, respect for eachother without being forced. Just quality. Jimmy really comes off as a kind and great person.
Agree! Very nice interview (takes so much skill) and he showed us a whole different side of Jimmy than I knew from
watching his work.
Listening to smart people talk about relatable trauma unlocks parts of me that I didn't know needed to be opened up. Cheers Neal!
That delivered. Really good stuff. Jimmy Carr seems to be becoming a Garry Shandling figure for a younger generation of comics. Fingers crossed for a Mulaney episode: articulate, lots to talk about, going through changes, and a family very different from many comedians.
What a lovely guy! His comedy can be rather...sharp so I didn't expect him to be this nice. Another great episode!!
It’s amazing Jimmy went to uni after having such trouble trying to learn in school.
Dude, thank you for making this podcast. Wow
Jimmy saying hone is a person, and when he lost his mother, it was like being homeless. Hits hard man.
sure, sleep outdoors for a couple of weeks and see if that's like your mother dying at all
READ JIMMY'S BOOK (Listen to it) Before & Laughter!
@@xmathmanx point taken buddy. Everyone has a different perspective but no ill will.
@@xmathmanx sitting here wondering if it's possible for you to be more of a douchebag or not.
@@xmathmanx he’s not equating death to actual shelter, but talking about losing the spirit of what makes a place a home and there is a safety one can find in other people that feels like the safety of “home.” I understood that and didn’t remotely think he was talking about actual homelessness and its different hardships. Watching the suffering and death of a loved one is a very devastating hardship and it’s often hard to put into words the experience of that trauma. I don’t like your comment of “see if that’s like your mother dying at all.” Your form of suffering isn’t superior to others’ suffering and that attitude prevents necessary empathy. More simply, if you want us to care about you, you have to care about others. But then again, this is CZcams so chances are you’ve never been homeless but will be offended on their behalf.
I've been waiting for this one. Excellent interview. Jimmy is amazing when he performs, and he's even more amazing when he speaks about himself and his life. 💙💙
JIMMY ON BLOCKS? LFG!!
The Blocks Podcast is my group therapy.
I knew this man was smart but Jesus Christ, I'm having epiphanies every five minutes just by listening to him speak.
Jimmy seems like a genuinely good friend.
Every time there is a blocks noise my dog barks at the door bell, thanks!
Always thought Jimmy was funny, but never really clicked with his stage persona. This single conversation has reframed everything I've ever thought about him.
What a great podcast episode to start 2024. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for your incredible work on Blocks. Your insightful discussions, engaging storytelling, and genuine passion for the topics make each episode a highlight of my week. Thank you for consistently delivering valuable content and creating a podcast that truly resonates with your audience. Your dedication and talent are truly commendable. Happy new year!
Absolutely this.
I must admit, I found myself getting a little bit emotional seeing the genuine friendship between these two. Loved this.
Jimmy Carr is 1 of the top comedians world wide ,he is the hardest working comedian check it out .nevermind his shows hes 1 of our top comedians rock any stage or show.
I related to him losing his Mom; his description of compounding grief made perfect sense. Top-notch episode!
I had no idea I wanted to hear these guys talk. So engaging.
I’ve known jimmy as a comedian/host for about 5-6 years now and I thought he was good. But in the last 6 months he has appeared in various podcasts and honestly some of the things he has said has been life changing. It feels so real and genuine and I haven’t been able to relate to things as much as what he says. He’s incredible and I respect him so much. Wow
Finally, the man who invented this podcast is on!
All of my preconceived notions of Jimmy were wrong. I learned a lot and have a deeper appreciation of both of them. What a great episode.
I've been waiting for this one since the first show. So good to see two of my all-time favorite comedians share some time talking and riffing about Blocks and mental health, and just enjoying each other's company. Great show, Neal, as always!
"say more" makes me happy
One of the most anticipated episode, let's go!
Great podcast! I saw both of you on tour in 2023, so this was a treat.
"God is an analogy for the future" Jimmy Carr is fascinating! Love this episode!
Best episode yet! Very informative, with Jimmy’s accent, anything he says appears genuine and smart! Fantastic 🎉
FINALLY!!!! the man himself
I like seeing Jimmy Carr hanging out with American comedians.
What a lovely guy.
Jimmy Carr is one of my favorite comedians and has been for years. Super excited to watch this.
carr has given me so much joy. cats does countdown is by far the best game show in existence.
This ep is so beautifully shot
Brilliant episode, as expected!
This is the one I wanted to see. Did not disappoint. You are both amazing.
'Gratitude is the mother of all virtues.' - Very nice, Jimmy!
It's scary to see Jimmy this close. I usually see him from a distance in British game shows. Which I love watching. It's great you guys talk about mental health. But you guys have a career in spite of it. Not everybody overcome their problems. It's so sad to look back at your life and realize: I never reached my potential. It was just one big struggle, also ruined by ill-functioning therapists. Thank god for EMDR. Fuck Freud. For me comedians are the new philosophers.
yeah i dont feel i should see him so close lol i was just noticing this as i stare at his eyebrows
Interesting point about comedians, I like that
This podcast was like listening to my heart beat.
❤ thank you both.
The episode I have been dreaming on!!!!!! my two Favorites!
So so good. Truly a joy to listen to Jimmy 👌👏😊
best podcast I've watched in a while
Great podcast Neal and Jimmy! A great thinking/reflecting video guys. Please keep this rolling for ALL of us! It is something we ALL need. THANK YOU!
Lovely to see Jimmy doing well. Glad he's such a good friend to Neial
Love this!
Great interview! Didn't know Jimmy Carr very well and am now obsessed -he's awesome!
Such a good podcast. Love Carr’s positivity. I try to emulate it.
Tell Jimmy i actually loved hearing him not go joke to joke in this. He’s a great dude
41:50 In our twenties we worry everyone is judging us, in our thirties we don’t care, in our forties we realize no one was thinking about us and we’re dealing with their own battles:
Such an intelligent comprehensive, interesting conversation...both intelligently and emotionally. Thank you, gentlemen
Loved this❤thanks
I have benefited greatly from the vulnerability you show. Thank you the world needs you!
🙏
SO META!!! SO GREAT!!! Awesome conversation between two contemporary's who clearly have great respect for one another.
Really am so grateful for this pod. You two are genius. Even if y’all don’t feel like it, you are changing our collective world for the better.
Thank you.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣✨💖
Quality stuff.
This was great food for the mind and for the heart
This is everything I wanted rn 😍
Great episode!
I love this so much. I’m used to Jimmy ‘the host’ but I loved this side of him.
I love this show. Great host and guest
I remember dming you before the podcast came out, that you should do exactly this with your friends. You liked the message, and only months later, the podcast came out! I'm so stoked to know that I was of the same thinking as Jimmy... (in this one respect, he's incredible.😂) You are both amazing, thank you so much for this, Neal. Just when it looked like there couldn't be another effing podcast, you blessed us. Shanks.
I've been watching so much 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, that I really appreciated seeing and hearing Jimmy talk so seriously for a change. Great episode.
This one is almost perfect! I'd love to hear more from Jimmy about Sean and their relationship. Sean was and is so huge for me comedically and Jimmy got to be right there for so many of my favorite TV moments. Aside from that I love that Jimmy doesn't shy away from the tough parts of his life. He was the butt of a lot of jokes about taxes and accountants. And he laughed right along with them. Someone here compares him to Garry Shandling for this generation and I have to agree. Love him!
Awesome Episode!
Great podcast great episode
Ha! I saw Neal in front of Dairy Queen a couple years back!
This is going to be great
3:06 so much respect for Jimmy Carr and what he said about talking about trauma. Only three minutes in and can’t wait to learn more about him after spending so much time delighted by him 8/10Cats Countdown.
I stumbled across this and I am SO IMPRESSED! YT videos introduced me to JC & I have only heard him be BRILLIANTLY FUNNY!!! Here I heard a more authentic man share his life's journey and I feel honored!!! I also am an LMFT so I relish the basic premise, which reinforces/reiterates a lot from my education & professional experience, as well as my own personal journey. Both of you men have been of loving service through your open exchange! May you both enjoy your creative endeavors, and wishing you and all your loved ones perfect health & exquisite joy!!! God Bless you 🙏😇🙏
Great ep
Thank you for showing us another side of Mr. Carr.❤
I was not expecting this level of philosophy from Jimmy Carr. I’ve learned so much
I was waiting for Jimmy to be on since day one when you mentioned him sort of spitballing this pod and...it blew me away. Such a good guest, EXCELLENT conversation, and just ... IDK. Well done.
Wow Jimmy, absolutely resonate with your story. I feel like I've dealt with those issues from losing a parent young and how it effects you later in life
Great podcast really injoy injoyed keep them coming 👍 👏 👌.
The best of the best
We need more men talking about real shit like this.
O no, I forgot to stop the podcast before the closing music.
Now I am going to have it stuck in my head until the next episode gets posted.
Ah love what you say about kids. I love seeing how they grow as people.❤
omg omg omg as a massive comedy geek, and totally misremembering which friend he credited in the intro, i am soooo excited to hear what these two talk about! just binged last night and ended w a super satisfying creativity squat via Fred Armisen soogood!
This was a good I learned alot from Jimmy.
Have always loved jimmy carr
I knew of jimmy carr but wasn’t that into him but now I’m a fan after this pod👍🏻 thanks Neal.
Ooooh fresh. See you in Tokyo in a couple weeks
56:36 low level rumble (of anxiety) once you have kids - your heart lives outside your body.
Jimmy is such an interesting person. Enjoyed this interview immensely.
Jimmy Carr, you're one of my favourite people. Please keep up your awesomeness. You give me hope in a world that keeps taking it away. I'm sorry for the loss of your dog :(
You found your cowboy! 🤠 4:51 Montreal stroll. I am in.. 😂😮❤🎉
You have lovely powerful insights Jimmy, maybe earnt maybe read. Love this. Thanks for showing me you!
