Just did this at my shop for a customer...drilled and tapped all 16 holes. pretty simple. did it in the car as well. used the Huhn kit as well. This really should be a recall.as KIA knows about it.

My 3.8 Genesis blew a head gasket and threads came out after attempting to re install the heads. I am buying the hun kit today. I have rebuilt this whole engine myself I am 21 not trying to say I know a lot. But I have never done this type of work before. For example the best way to clear out the old threads and anything that might get in the way. I have replaced all the internals in engine . This block looks identical to mine. Any response or tips is appreciated

I just used this kit on my 2015 Kia Cadenza 3.3 V6 and it worked pretty well, was able to get the inserts in and they torqued to spec just fine. As long as you follow the instructions and measure right you will be fine. It was my first time ever doing this job but once I got started with a few it got really easy. I ended up doing the entire block.

Keep in mind there may be other factors affecting their decision not to attempt a repair. If there is significant coolant in the oil or the vehicle was severely overheated you may end up with issues after the repair. The one I did is still running strong but it was caught early and was not overheated. This one had some oil in the coolant and an external coolant leak from the corner of the front head.

I got everything cleaned up, I put my bore scope down the head bolt holes, saw two with obvious damaged threads. Since the engine got pretty hot I wonder if it would be better to source a good used block and heads that were not overheated. It sustained a bit of internal rust while sitting. We had the big snow here in TX two yrs ago, I don't know if it had enough water in it to crack anything, no freeze plugs popped. I'm going to need to bore this one anyway. The crank is fine. The block decks are warped .0027 and the heads are .001 I read that getting aluminum hot weakens it.

Doe anyone know how much material you can remove from the deck and heads? I got about .001" warpage on the heads but .0027 on both decks. in the middle of both head and deck, so added together nearly .004" of space Also on mine I have a thing across the middle where the knock sensors go, I messed up the guide pin, it only serves to align one oring, I tried drilling out, its a mess now. I have a .25" deep hole there, I don't think it will hurt anything, its a blind hole. I think that port is the oil feed from the pump it goes across the top to the oil filter, Sedona.3.8, Plenty of room to apply a bead sealant outside the oring as a backup. As long as I center the bolt holes carefully should be fine. The other end has no dowel.

BEWARE: Kia lost a class action lawsuit, and has now extended the warranty for models with head gasket failures. My wife's Kia Sorento developed coolant boil-off issues just as we hit the 100,000 mark. I thought it was due for the junkyard, but Kia approved the warranty repair. We are getting an entirely new short block, not just head gasket repairs. At least, we would be if most of the car dealerships in the country weren't out of order due to a cloud-based software ransomware attack.
