I ran channel optimisation on the new garden access point, and the performance is now much more like the performance I was expecting.
Now getting 92.4 Mbps Down and 14.7 Mbps Up when next to the workshop.
That seems about right and it's good enough to stream so no need to get any thing else. The auto channel optimization can cause random issues with clients not connecting after a while so look out for that.

Hi Dale, an interesting video as always.. I would certainly go for a hard wired ethernet connection. A bit of work but once it's done you will reap the rewards forever
It was a consideration, but to much work in the short term.
For now I have Internet where I need it, so will see how it performs.

For short term, it looks good and the losses you are seeing look good. For longer term I would think about putting a cable in the ground, did that here (30m run) and never regretted it (although with hind sight should have put two swa's in the ground and not one, but that is a different story). If you are thinking about solar/batteries as well and the amount of power you can use the in workshop, you may end up putting some swa in the ground and at the point adding a couple of cat 6 cables is not a bad plan. Doing remote ct monitoring works well with ct6 cables, just a thought.
Thanks John, I always have 16mm SWA up to the workshop, I was hoping I could run some cat6 up in the conduit but not good.
So for now I don't want to dig a trench 50 meters just to run some network cable, but maybe in the future when doing other jobs.
Will be interesting to see how it performs but will have to watch it later

A 5Ghz point to point to the workshop and then an access point would be far better. In fact, you could plug the access point in to the point to point and power it from the slave port to save on a switch etc. you could use the mesh ap you already have to save some cash.
Absolutely, looks like my other posts got binned but yes P2P with ap on the end. Currently due to component shortage. We only have the lite AC P2P units in stock, noting that the ubnt p2p bits use non standard passive Poe and not a normal standard.
You could mesh but 50% of the bandwidth is lost and you need the controller running for it to work right. Only one company in UK does the controller free for 3 yrs if you buy the ap from them
I did consider using my Ubiquiti NanoBeam AC NBE-5AC-16, but decided I would give this a try.
I will see how the performance goes, but may try those and compare performance.
I still think this AP may perform better with a location change, but at least I have Internet in the workshop now :)
@@SpectrumGeeks true. The nanostation will likely give you full speed notwithstanding any interference.
@@danieltpope2518 normally we say half the given speed of the link to get real world average. Nanostations are not generally in stock but broadbandbuyer has 21 pallets arriving today so not sure what's on them, nanobeams ran out but we got a few lite AC units or go with tp link CPE 510
UniFi like all Ubiquity 1/4 distance and half the speed on the specifications.
I have found the AC pro to have a maximum useful range of around 30m. Use a wireless bridge to your workshop / office.
We have 2gbps over 5km with Ubiquity 60ghz long range dishes.

I would think so, obviously the metal with impact the signal slightly, but I have a metal garage door and it works fine for me.
I'm trying to get one of these set up and everyone who sets it up already has a unifi network... How do I set it up from having no unified Network at all I'm not able to find the AC pro on my app.... Am I missing a piece of hardware
Yes you need either a cloud key or install the UniFi tool on your computer to manage and setup the wireless network.
Have you thought about putting another one of these at the garden end to mesh to the house... then the garden one can be WiFi, plus can you use the cable outlet of a garden one into a router to then plug in cable things in the garden shed?
Not really, but only because I decided to hook up my old Ubiquiti Nano Beams and give improved connection upto the shed / workshop area.
can i use this without unifi controller, just for AP only connection to a non unifi switch like tp link?
You don't need to buy a hardware UniFi controller, but the UniFi controller software is required to do the initial setup of the AP, and future changes.
So you can just install the software on your computer, or set it up on a Raspberry Pi.
Is it not too close to the wall (on the right as you look at it) to project the signal forwards that distance?

Thanks for the suggestion Mark, I just went out to visually check the angles and don't think its an issue, but I have angled it a little more to the left as you look at it, to better line up line of sight with the workshop area.
You should be able to get hold of a Unifi radiation plot for the AP and double check…

It would be and something I did consider, however decided in the interim it will be a total ball ache to run conduit to where I would need it, so WiFi it is ... for now.

hi I am having it, i switched it on, but it is not showing any network in the hotspot?
If this is your first UniFi product you need to setup the controller and configure a network to the settings you require.
@@SpectrumGeeks sir my application is, I am having a drone which needs a hotspot , so using private network I want to command my drones, so on powering on the unifi , I could not find any unifi network in my phone wifi, so will the unifi switches on hotspot upon powering?
Do unifi do one of these in WiFi6?
Not the AC Mesh Pro. I think only their indoor APs currently support WiFi6.
Yes you can get the U6 mesh. Currently out of stock in most places but it is also smaller again it uses 802.3af Poe. In order to mesh first one must be cabled and you need to run the unifi controller either on site or hosted

I have 2x. U6-LR in the house the coverage and speeds are great, seamless switching between AP's, and you don't even realise, if I get an external one, and one in my garage I'll be fully covered inside and out.
I live in 4.5 acres.. and this beauty can clear 400 ft .. easily
