Corridors of Time is one of my favorite songs from Chrono Trigger, and one of my favorite video game songs. I was already in love with Laura Shigihara's rendition of Corridors of Time, especially with how she wrote the lyrics from Schala's perspective, and I love what became of that vocal cover in the Arrangement Album.
That being said, I love what you and Ryan have done to create this powerful cover. With this cover, it feels like one can get immersed with the feelings of confusion, wonder, and sorrow that Schala faces as she has to deal with her mother's actions and the consequences. :D
Thank you so very much! We tried to bring out some of those feelings with the instrumentation and production, so I'm happy you felt it came across. Laura's tracks on the arrangement album were so excellent! I hope she collaborates with Mitsuda-san again in the future!
I am so excited to be able to post this collaboration with my good friend, Ryan Lafford! Ryan and I worked together to create a cover of the official 20th Anniversary vocal arrangement version of “Corridors of Time” by Yasunori Mitsuda and Laura Shigihara. It was an honor to work with Ryan and to pay tribute to this beautiful take on Mitsuda’s classic by Laura! These lyrics were written by Laura from Schala’s perspective.

It's really hard to avoid all the spoilers since Chrono Trigger came out so long ago, but if you can find a copy somewhere either on snes, 3DS, or on a Rom you owe it to yourself to play thru the game. This was considered to be, by many, the mother of all RPG's. A master stroke by Square Soft before their separation from Nabu, and the loss of most of their good writers after the merger with Enix.

This is so beautiful! The lyrics fit the music perfectly. I love the story it tells, of Schala “waking up” from the dream and becoming aware. She tries to convince the queen, but by the end she becomes lonely and less willing to be awake, and slowly gets confused by the dream, “falling asleep” and joining everyone again in the dream.
And then everything goes worse thanks to the Dream Devourer...

I've never played Chrono Trigger, but this gave me goosebumps all over my body. All the notes are in the right places and the instrumentation is so airy and calm... Love it!

Play Chrono Trigger as soon as you possibly can. It's available on DS used or new on Amazon and on Wii Shop Channel Virtual Console. It is beyond a shadow of a doubt the most flawless game I have ever played, with some of the best writing, gameplay, music, graphics, and story of any game ever. A must-play for anybody who considers themself a true gamer.

Basically never gonna get tired of this.
This seems like the perfect cover to me, for the bad ending of some emotional, story filled RPG, where the lead couple are both together spending their last minutes alone before dying tragically to save the world or something, instead of surviving it. Love it. The transience of the vocals and the lyrics themselves bring out a lot of emotion and scenarios in your head, wanting to understand what has happened.
No wonder this song was familiar, it was a paying tribute to Laura's vocal version of this song. I loved how the song turned out, the background instruments were nice and I liked the soft tone that was used to match with them.
I usually don't like when instrumental music has lyric versions. This hands down was amazing. Great work on the lyrics. Really speaks to the game story. Great job!!
This honestly made me cry.
My father introduced me to older RPGs when I was younger, and he'd let me play through the story line and handle all the harder boss fights for me. Amongst the many we played, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger were my definite favorites. He passed away a couple of years ago, so these songs always remind me of him. Thank you for posting something so beautiful that I can link back to my absolute favorite person in the world.
