Just so everyone is aware two turbos in line with each other are compound turbos. Twins would be if there were two exhaust manifolds running identical turbos “twins” that run into the intake manifold.
We singled out our 05 Acert. Cut the fuel back to around 600 and blew the fire ring out of headgasket on 6 holes in the first 5000 miles. Needed inframe anyway. 24k dollars later it is swell. Went to industrial 16:1 pistons. Acert 18:1 stock cr just too high. Never pulled over 800 on pyro though. Still only about 800 max. Making around 600 to 630 I would guess.
I did exactly what you were proposing a year ago to my NXS. Could not be happier! Super responsive,50psi boost, rarely see over 700 on the Pyro, 600 at the wheels and plenty of room to grow.You will love it. Just deleting the pre-cooler makes this engine so much easier to work on
I run a 6nz 550hp and going from acert to the single turbo kinda sucks to be honest, the acert had so much less turbo lag, pulled harder at lower rpms, on this 6nz taking off on steep hills out here in Washington, Oregon on a daily basis sucks cause the turbo takes so damn long to spool up, the pyros are running both the same temp to be honest id much rather have the twins, or at least a smaller turbo so it isn't lagging so much, right now it's got a 78mm Borg Warner
Twins...emissions was the main thing... quicker boost. That turbo looked like it should be on a bus.. you can have a small exhaust impeller.. but it needs to be wider..this will turn faster as long as impeller is bigger on fresh air side.... good thing about single is less joints..less leaks!! the manifold can be bought like that for single or twins...its an aftermarket either way... 1000hp with a few tricks... and a lot of money... thats old skool everyone knows that..
so.... the MAIN reason is ... its looks better? you kinda shot yourself in the foot by saying " with a NICE tune you can get 1000 hp" from the twins ... then you saying he's getting 625-675 ??? put the twins *BACK* *ON* !!! loose the emissions .. that's the problem!
"Running more like an old school truck" yeah like shit....A 575 or 600 tune on the compounds is way more effciant and alot better torque down low. Singles are garbage in this application....even the guy who just made 10k plus from you couldnt give you a good reason why a single is better 🤣🤣🤣

I have a rebuild in a year or so , going with 16:1 industrial packs, IVA delete , pre-cooler delete , ECM flash and keeping the twin turbos.

Your clutch switch is shot. Pull back on your clutch pedal and see if that works let me know

Looks like a cat 3406E 550hp should make about 650hp on a light tune
As if the series turbos make it that much more difficult to change a thermostat

I singled mine and went with a switchblade turbo, it works just as well as the compounds
