Chamkila: Wretched of the Earth

In this episode of #KultureVulture, we dig deep into casteism and its violent politics by reviewing the biopic of Amar Singh Chamkila, the voice of rural India in the 80s and how brutally he was murdered for his simple songs. We discuss the conflicts and contradictions of casteism in India and how upper castes dictate terms through violence to keep its control over other castes in Modi's India, and how upper-caste Hindutva is in direct clash with all other castes of India. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the flick stars Diljit Singh Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra and is released by Netflix.
