As a Canadian, this is the best rendition of the Canadian anthem I ever heard. My ears have been blessed.
Certainly better than the one they played every morning on the school PA system. You could hear the wear on the recording by the time I graduated.
@@Vespuchianseriously? Every morning? I'm all for patriotism but that seems like overdoing it a bit and spoiling the anthem (which I find very beatiful) for your kids, no?
@@TheTutch I agree. I'm proud to be a Canadian, but even I got tired of having to do the anthem in elementary school every morning back in the 90s. I got in a bit of trouble & got sent to the principle's office for not joining in the singing every morning. Nothing too serious came from it, just having to deal with just having to suck it up for a while longer. Thankfully, when I got to high school (no middle schools where I grew up) they dropped the mandatory morning anthems. To give my elementary school some credit, they did mix it up every now & then between the english, french & bi-lingual (both english & french) versions of the anthem.

But yes, when I was in grade school (late 80s, early 90s) they still played the anthem to start the day.
No idea if they still do, I assume not. Canadians tend to remember which nation they live in.

That is actually a rendition of the “With Glowing Hearts” anthem which played on the CBC/Radio Canada before they started their daily broadcast in the early 1980s. Probably the nicest arrangements of the O Canada.

Fantastic work. The harmonies and flourishes make this one of the best renditions I've heard. My only complaint is I prefer when the last line jumps the octave instead of going down. Usually when I hear people sing it going down I assume it's because they don't have the range to go up, so maybe that's also true for the toothbrushes.

The arrangement of O Canada you get from the Barbershop Harmony Society is really good. The chorus I sang with often impressed visiting teams when we sang it.

No lie, as a kid I wanted to be Canadian because I liked their anthem more
it doesn't help that ours is literally a reskinned drinking song.. one designed deliberately to be really hard to sing (so you can gauge how drunk you are).

Though, trying to think of some metaphors for the history of music, one does come across that era where silly people were arguing over whether to listen to 'black music' but sometimes it was okay if it was white artists covering it.. there's a less comfortable reskinning. ah but it all worked out in the end, and now we have more versions of everything

The Canadian anthem is my second favorite among all of those I’ve heard. The first is (still) the Russian anthem. Whatever you may think of Russia and their war with Ukraine, you have to admit that they have one hell of a national anthem.
And then there's the U.S. national anthem which is, essentially, an unremarkable piece of War of 1812 poetry set to the tune of an English drinking song.
