Paul, sir, I'm a DO med student and your videos help me remember/visualize the stuff we are learning in class. They are great review videos! I usually pick to watch your videos because they are 1 minute +/-, and they are straight to the point of what we're testing, why we're testing for it, and what to look for.
Great stuff, you are definitely my ortho eval pal :)
Thank you so much for this video
Yep that's me and nerve dysfunction with it! Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is fun!
I have the CMC but also doctors say it also that the second joint just above it. Being sent to surgeon but have no idea how long that will take. Is there a way to diagnose the problem with the second joint i.e. the joint right above the CMC?
beautiful
Omg I have everything...pain Palmar side, swelling and boney part at the bottom of joint.
It hurts so very bad.
I fell on my wrist not to long ago, my thumb as been hurting for weeks now, its slowly going down but I don't know what happen and I fear I may have thumb arthritis can you give me some guidance to what I have and ways to treat it
For the last 10 years I have gone to the Dr 3 times asking what & why questions regarding now both of my hands having daily pain from electric like grinding in the middle of my palms , bone spur on the thumb joint , nodules forming on fingers . And each time the findings from X-rays are arthritis? Ok now what ? It’s pain that interferes with my daily life as I am a physical 57 year old woman . Any suggestions on controlling my pain ?
My knuckle hurts not the lower part. What is that
Is there any physical features that can help you diagnose CMC? Like a decrease in muscles?
Yes, the muscle between the base of the thumb and index finger can be smaller from disuse atrophy and pain.
How do you fix this problem?
I start with a brace. Oh...here, try this. My podcast episode about it pdcn.co/e/www.buzzsprout.com/325448/6224050-160-what-is-basilar-cmc-joint-arthritis.mp3?blob_id=25927807&download=true
THAT frickin' hurt!!!! 😫
I injured that joint pulling my hand out of a Ball Jar when cleaning it, three months and still not healed! only 80 percent better!
Not surprised! If the tendon became irritated, it could last a while. Have you tried bracing?
@@OrthoEvalPal No , just avoided using it, taping it up just got in the way, Iv'e had tendon injuries before that took up to a year plus to completely heal! Not to bad now, for a month could not even flick a cigarette ash , without comping to tears!
Treatment?
I have this and after a year of suffering with it (I had other health issues to deal with first) I had it X-rayed. confirmed basal joint arthritis. I had a steroid injection right in the office and it made a huge difference almost immediately. I must warn you that it hurt quite a bit, but it's pretty fast, and the relief is WELL worth the pain of the injection. I was also given a brace which makes it feel much better as well. It nearly feels back to where it was before all of the pain started. It's going on about three weeks now and it still feels much better. I'm having some pain on the right hand as well now, so I will likely need the injection on that hand too. They can do these injections every three months. So I'm hoping the effects don't wear off before then, but again, I highly recommend it for this type of pain. Good luck!
