As a nurse I can say EVERYONE should wear compression socks to help prevent blot clots and swelling. Love this video!!!
Hello, is it ok to wear the compression socks when I’m not traveling like if I’m at home or at work? I have a sit down job. Thank you so much
I am a retired rn and compression stockings help prevent blood clots at any time.
Did anyone catch the link to her compression socks? I can’t find it.
No thank you.
My doctor told me compression socks are helpful when standing.
I cannot overstate how helpful this video is as someone contemplating international travel for the first time as a plus sized woman!!
Thank you so much for this video! As a plus size lady and one that travels often, I am the kind of person that doesn’t like to fuss too much while on flight and travelling as I don’t like to have much attention drawn to me. With your insight, I am more confident and know what to do on my next travels!! Love from Singapore! ❤❤
I love the information you put out there. Being plus size is not easy. The topic on which you discussed was approachable and was full of great information. Plus you don’t make plus size people feel bad for their weight. Please continue to be an uplifting and positive light in our community.
This was the BEST 🎉 I am traveling to Hawaii, and have anxiety about being on the beach in a swimsuit. I just want you to know that you give me so much confidence!! Not just with this video, but all your videos. You will never know how much you change peoples worlds Anna. I went to Seattle, and I had to ask for a seatbelt extender, and wouldn’t you know the guy was totally hot. He didn’t even bat an eye , kept his sexy big smile and handed it to me. I may or may not have winked 😂 this was amazing to watch. Wonderful tips. And you’re right ! we paid for this vacation. Change your attitude and enjoy.❤
I had this anxiety about swimsuits as well. I have given birth to 5 children and 4 are grown and the youngest is 9 and I don't want to hold back the 9 year old. I also have super fair skin (and have had skin cancers removed) So I wear swim capris under my suit and no one says or stares or anything. I don't have chaffing and I go to all the beaches. Plus, for the most part, as my adult children tell me, everyone is mostly worried about themselves, its only the extreme jerks that arent and they are well...extreme jerks (= Go to ALL the beaches!!!
You don’t have to worry about being plus size and wearing a swimsuit in Hawai’i. They are such a beach community. Everyone wears swimsuits everywhere. All sizes. No one bats an eyelash.
I went to Egypt twice and I’ve got a stoma there I am with my bag hanging from the belly out of my bikini bottoms and I’ve also has a mastectomy and in a wheelchair from my disability size 20 if I can do it you can the beach is nothing if anybody stares at you they are thinking wow she’s brave ❤
I'm no longer plus sized but you're still an inspiration for me in how I treat myself and how I empathize and help others. I'm so glad to be a part of this community!
Well thank you!
Hello I am plus size and I am try to loss weight do you have any tips
@@alishaelswick1985 Cut excessive calories down and stick to a certain number of calories that you know will be sustainable and nourishing to your body, (1500-2000 calories recommended, but it’s really depending on your body weight and height) , count your calories to make sure you’re really eating that set amount of calories, only eat fresh healthy food for the first 30 days of a new exercise and diet routine (and when you do start adding in unhealthy food after the 30 days only eat it in small increments for moderation) download a step tracking app and walk at least 6500 steps a day, take daily vitamins, get 7-8 hours of sleep, drink 6-8 cups of water per day, exercise 1-2x a day 5 days a week with 2 rest days every 3 days, and try to stay consistent with exercising. I suggest making your own exercise schedule and regimen instead of watching videos online, you can do this by researching certain exercises that will benefit your body the most then put all of them together on a list. you can exercise from home or at the gym but I’ve lost my excess weight from doing all of these things at home. With this routine you are really guaranteed to lose weight!
@@alishaelswick1985 Diet and exercise. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts. It’s truly a lifestyle change (speaking from experience). Personally, I found the most success with the keto diet, no alcohol, lots of water and walking.
@@alishaelswick1985 Don't drink your calories. Biggest tip I can give you. People don't realize how many calories they drink. Other than that low carb, low sugar, high protein.
As a plus sized person. Traveling is hard and I’m below a size 20. Plane seats hurt and is uncomfortable. Plus weight limits on adventures makes me feel unworthy and unacceptable to the world . Thank you for showing up for all of us who feel shame and are anxious about these things ❤
I'm a size 2 and travelling is hard unless u travel first class or something
Also, you might mention that if you require a seat belt extender, you cannot sit in an exit row. Had a pretty embarrassing incident on a flight where I was told I had to move after everyone else had gotten on the plane.
So excited for this channel! For years I let being plus-sized hold me back from traveling because I was so uncomfortable in my body. I've lost a lot of weight but am still considered plus-size but I am experiencing life to the fullest and traveling as much as I can. Looking forward to seeing all of your fabulous adventures!
A good hack for fligts I have used the last two years is to wear a bumbag/fannypack that holds my phone, ereader, headhones, chewinggum, chapstick and things I know I will need to be able to access multiple times during the flight. If it is fastened around your waist they almost always allow you to wear it even in the emergency seat ail, so you can have more legroom and still have your thibngs on hand. As someone who holds a lot of buil around my waist, it can be a striggle for me to bend down and reach my bag under the seat infront, so this has made it a lot mot convinient for me.
This is a great tip as well! Thanks for sharing
I'm a 16, and am uncomfortable on planes and buses, trains, I squish my shoulders in, or lean forward to not make others uncomfortable. Sometimes I see their face of disappointment when they see they have to sit next to me. I can only imagine what people bigger than me go through and I'm so sorry for it. Thanks for having these conversations.
Wise words and good advice for people who aren't necessarily plus sized too. (Some people traveling with children have fears too. As long as I was trying to keep my kids happy, people don't stare at you so bad.) One caveat to the weight limit for activities is horseback riding--those limits are for the animal's safety.
She would kill a horse. For sure
These are such awesome tips about the logistics of travel and how important travelling with the right attitude is. EVERYONE can apply so much of them to improve their travelling experiences. Human beings come in all shapes, sizes, heights and weights, and we should get out there and enjoy what life has to offer. We have all been victims at various points of our lives to mean or down right rude comments. How we react to them makes all of the difference. And you are so right about not worrying about what others are whispering or thinking about you. Most people could care less about anything other than what their immediate concerns are. They may give you a passing thought, but you are not their priority. And besides, so what if you are? You will more than likely never see those strangers again. I usually just ignore people like that or say a quick little prayer for them since they more than likely were not brought up to show compassion and kindness. That kind of meanness eventually will rot them to the core. Best of luck and much success to you and your new channel.
Oh Anna what a grand way to start your first video!!! My favorite thing you said, “you will have the vacation you think you deserve!!!” Oh so true and made me think how often I need to say that to myself! There is just no one harder, more condemning or or fearful of the what if’s than me! Thank you sweet girl!! Loved the video and happy to see you feeling better!❤️😘
I’m so glad you liked it!
The dreaded white plastic chair! I know that chair, only too well.

Great video Anna!!!! My husband and I are both tall plus sized people. We purchase one extra seat in the 3-seat row. That way we both have a seat and a half. Being not only plus sized we are both tall (me 5’10” and hubby is 6’2”) and stick out wherever we go. Can you discuss the person in front of your seat reclining their seat. Also the weight limit on suitcase - I believe is 50 lbs. Plus sized clothes are larger therefore there is more weight for each single item. This causes us to have to bring less clothing. Another item is a CPAP machine. It is a medical device and does not count as a carry on. So a person can have a regular carry on as well as a bag with the CPAP machine. I have a funny tip for when the flight attendant asks “Cookies or pretzels?”…. Say “yes please”. My husband does that and he always gets both. 😂
Jon and typically do that when we travel to film. It’s actually great because we also some travel with odd shaped equipment which we then have extra space for.
i absolutely love this video. Thank you so much for your empathy and your knowledge!! as a 350+ wide woman, I've had to get used to advocating for myself on flights - extra seats, seatbelt extender. The only thing I would add to what you have is when i get the extra seat, i make sure to let the flight attendant know when i get on the plane so that THEY are aware, in case anyone complains to them. It just helps.
Tip for asking for a seatbelt extender: ask when you first get on the plane. I know I'm going to need one, no matter what. Often they have one they can easily hand you right then. Also, if you can, hand it back to an attendant at the end of the flight. It is always appreciated, as they tend to go missing if left on the seat.
Deb here. Thank you for mentioning about returning the seat belt extender. Did not think to do that. Will in the future.
I suggest buying a seatbelt extender.
You couldn’t be more right about compression socks or stockings. I am not plus sized, and I am a nurse and should know better, but we took a trip to New Zealand, and when we got there I could not get my shoes back on! Had to buy some flip flops in the airport, and wore them to a fancy restaurant two nights later😢. On the way home, I wore knee high compression socks, and had no swelling at all! Some people will do fine with the ankle socks you discussed, but for a lot of people, the knee high ones are more helpful. Great video!
Good advice. Tip: Wear incontinence pads while traveling. Helps with stress. Also, consider wearing skirt/dress while flying. Taking a discreet feminine urinal will aid toilet use. Find them online and at camping stores like REI! Also keeps pants from getting soiled on bathroom floor. Always arrange for necessary wheelchair aid when purchasing tickets. Compression sock are also a must.
I love your enthusiasm and no nonsense approach! I am not plus sized and still found much that was helpful and inspiring. As an aside, having waited tables in the past my observation is that host/esses tend to be young and not experienced in how to handle many situations. So they often won't address seating with a plus sized person- perhaps fear of embarrassing the customer or lack of social skills. As you suggest, being proactive and asking for what you need will make the seating process easy and let you have the comfort you deserve. Ultimately the business wants you to be happy and have a great experience.
asking for a seatbelt extender privately during pre-boarding has never even crossed my mind. the anxiety i go through every time it's time to buckle....GAH! thank you for this simple yet super helpful hack!
I have my own from Amazon.
Deb here. Can you imagine what would would happen if they did not have enough for everyone?
Thank you for talking about bathrooms. Many years ago before I was plus sized, I flew home to California from London at 7 months pregnant. The baby shifted and I was stuck in the tiny rest room for long enough that the flight attendant knocked on to door to make sure that I was okay. Mortifying to 19 year old me, hilarious to 65 year old obese me. Thank you for sharing your advise.
I love to travel, and really appreciate your tips! As a plus size woman, travel does involve a LOT of planning, and it's good to know that other people deal with this as well.
Just found your site. Excellent, excellent video. Thank you so much. As a senior and plus size, I am so afraid to travel now because of my worries about flying first and then other issues that come up with plus size people.
You are amazing, so much great advice- and not just about travel, but life: “Planning is key, Be prepared, Be nice and ask, If you really want to do it, you can find a way, there’s always going to be an idiot who says something to you and you can make the choice not to listen, know your boundaries, advocate for yourself. “ and so much more!
Excellent tips on preparedness and attitude. I am plus sized and have traveled quite a bit. I have Never had a local be rude to me. If you walk in with a smile, that usually takes care of it!
Girl you’re awesome! Love how informative and honest you are and your positive attitude and joy is infectious! ❤️
I truly appreciate this! As a fat woman who wants to travel more I NEED this!
Can you go over what you pack specifically?
I’m an over packer. For example what is your essential makeup or types of outfits? And what is your favorite luggage? Plus size clothes take up more room and I’m not sure which luggage I should get.
Thank you Anna! ❤
Maybe you should lose weight
I was horribly humiliated by Alaska Airlines on a work trip several years ago. At check-in, I asked the check-in agent for a window seat, then joked that if there was an empty seat between seats, that would be great so I could spread out my work stuff (laptop, etc.). She took it upon herself to file a red flag internally, but didn't let me know she had done so. However, at the gate, the gate agent called me and let me know that a was flagged for my size! It was immediately humiliating! They wanted to measure me in the seat and see how I fit. (Just writing this brings back those feelings of humiliation and sadness.) All I could do was cry. I called my boss and told him what was happening, but what could he do but be disgusted and telling me he was going to contact legal. I bordered early to be "measured" and was approved to fly without any further questions or being penalized. The gate agent was disgusted at her colleague for reporting me and the flight attendants were as well. I cried all the way home on that flight. Unfortunately, I had to fly Alaska Airlines several more times after that, but not to that city.
Let me just say that my job for 24 years required a lot of air travel and I was then a seasoned traveler.
Definitely agree about asking for help whenever you travel, bc people don't generally think of the things you might need. Generally, flight attendants are very glad to help you with the seat belt extender and anything else you might need. Make sure you always are in a great mood when traveling - I make it my #1 point to always be extra nice to airport and airline staff at all times - and I usually get special treatment back.
Sorry, you had to go through this. Some people are terrible.
This video has been an actual godsend. I am traveling in 2 weeks and have had major anxiety over it. Your words have greatly put my mind at ease and have made me feel more empowered. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I adore you and your videos.
I applaud this lady for her positive attitude to plus size travel, and her refreshing attitude to dealing with problems , and planning ahead, rather than simply complaining, bravo !
I think the most important thing you said is “BE NICE” if you are asking people to make all these exceptions for you in an entitled way, you will feel them judging you and this trip won’t be pleasant, however if you are polite - people will try their best to help you out
This video was awesome!! I'm not a plus size person however this video helped me understand what others go through. Thank you for helping educate the world.
I am so glad you are here to talk about this with everyone 😀 ❤️
From what I know with most airlines, the second seat larger folks book is not a guarantee either. If the flight is full and there is a waiting list or a staff member needs a jump seat, they can take your booked second seat and place someone in it whether you fit in the 1 seat or not. If you can’t, they can remove you if they need a staff member to fly or someone is in need of a seat that day and will book you on a later flight once you get off. It’s in most airlines small writing when booking and you agree to those terms. There are more friendly plus airlines that would rather seat you, but they still have this in the writing when you book just in case. So if you book a second seat and truely will always need it, do not expect it’s a guarantee flight that time of day or even day.
I traveled to visit family and they took me to a restaurant where I could try food I'd never experienced before. The amazing thing is, the waiter started to seat us, took a look at very plus sized me, and graciously veered off to another spot where I was certain to fit at the table - without saying a word except to tell us to enjoy our meal. That restaurant won my heart and my business right then and there! There are more kind people out there than mean ones. You are correct that it is important to ignore the rude ones and enjoy your travels. You only get one life!
You make some great points in this vid. Ive travelled the world and never had an issue with my weight. I do buy 2 econnomy seats whenever I travel simply because Im relaxed and more comfortable with that exta seat. I can squeeze into a regular economy class seat but I just decided why they hell shouldnt I be comfortable?! And you are right, if you think someone is looking at you and thinking how fat you are, thats all your going to see. Ive accepted my weight a long time ago and never noticed anyone "giving me the eye " or saying something to me. They used to when I was self concious and shy but now that Im not its amazing that no one says a bad word to me. I think they can sense my confidence. Keep making these videos, you're doing a great job!!!
Thank you. I'm plus size and traveling to another country by myself. Its my first ever flight and I've been so nervous and this video really helped.
This was a very inspirational video. It is good for people of all sizes. Yes, you will have the experience that you wish for. Think happy, positive thoughts.
Your hair in this video is perfection! I can’t wait to see what comes next from this channel💜💜💜
This video was so helpful. Flying as a plus size person, I decided to buy my own seat belt extender so that I don't have to ask for one. Unfortunately, I lost it. The next time I flew, my sister gave me an extender and I board the plane with it. Sadly, this extender did not fit and I had to ask for one right before the plane took off.
This was a great video and I am looking forward to seeing more about travel.
Thank you for talking about bathrooms. Planning my first international flight and I have been so worried about this.
Great video! So positive, empowering, and such smart tips! I especially loved the anecdote about the restaurant with the dreaded white plastic chair. Your choice to start by saying you were so excited to eat there was perfect and I'm sure made a huge difference in how your request was received. Brilliant and beautiful!
This video was so needed. I decided this year was the year I step out of my comfort zone and travel with my twins. I also just happen to be plus-sized so your expert knowledge is truly appreciated. The only additional question I have is where did you get those amazing pants??! 😍😄
I absolutely love what I have seen of your channel so far; thank you for everything! I wish I had been able to do more traveling when I was your age, but now at the age of 61, with mobility issues, this information is even more valuable to me. You mentioned support hose from VimandVigor. When I went to their website, they don't sell compression stockings or support hose--or at least nothing comes up when you search. Could you please provide the link that you mentioned would be listed, since it looks like it got missed? Thanks so much!
Love this video! Super helpful. Would love to see a packing video so we can see some of the products you mentioned in this video!

As I get on the plane, I ask the first flight attendant for the seatbelt extender, they are usually right there in the front, so it's super quick and somewhat discreet.

I will also add that I bought my own seatbelt extender. I found a stigma when I had to ask for one so for 15.00 I just plug it in myself and immediately feel mental relief and not stuffed like a sausage !
How do you get through security with it? Any issues? I also read that most airlines won’t let you have them as they aren’t safety rated with each airline?

Compression socks! I'm not plus-sized, but I recently had a problem with swelling after a 3.5 hr. flight. My bf is big and has difficulty fitting into economy seats. I was sitting by the window, and I was trying to give him as much room as possible. I couldn't really move my lower legs too much, and after getting to our destination, I realized that my ankles had swelled up like balloons. Normally, when my ankles swell after flying, a long walk or two and swimming in the ocean take care of the problem. On this trip, we were visiting friends and didn't have the opportunity to walk or go swimming so for the entire four days we were there, my ankles bothered me. I didn't think of compression socks til I got home but I'm definitely buying a pair or two for my next trip.
Love your attitude about life! Excellent advice, travel wise as well as living.

Love this. The point about pacing yourself and not overdoing things while on holiday is something I don't think people talk about enough. Being exhausted isn't fun. Also: I am plus sized and I have never had anyone make a nasty remark about my size when traveling. I would also like to mention that South Africa is very welcoming to plus sized people in general and that has also been my experience for most of the Southern African region (the places that I have been at least).
You look amazing! Thanks for the tips. As a plus sized woman, this is super helpful
You are a force of nature. So smart and with a great personality. Fantastic video.

So grateful for this channel! I wish everyone can visit all the beautiful places in the world they want to see! You’re an inspiration!!
If you’ll come to Germany one day, I’m ready to meet 🤩😀
I am glad to hear you have had no bad treatment when traveling. I am a pleasant lady that people gravitate to under normal circumstances. However, I have had some really hurtful things said and done to me on flights. I decided I would buy two seats to avoid that and ironically, numerous people asked to sit in my second seat. I felt bad saying it was reserved, but reminded myself that I paid for that seat so it was okay to be there for my comfort. People, especially men, can be brutal.
@@virginiamesko6369 I am so sorry for you! But please let those stupid people not ruin the great experiences you will get from traveling and exploring the world.
